One last fish submas for mermay!!! I've been struggling a lot with my style this week, but I think ive finally got it all figured out!!
also this is my first time attempting a composition as ambitious as this :3 as not that impressive, but it is for me!!!! who usually just draws guys standing in a blank background!!!!
I know you said that over the course of the fic they'll learn each other's languages, but I wanted to ask specifically about them learning each other's names! Do you have any ideas on when or how that would happen?? Bc I can't stop thinking about like maybe the first human word Megumi says is Yuujis name 😭😭
Megumi has already named Yuuji in his own language, in chapter 10 when he was making the same noise over and over again, he was calling Yuuji by his assigned name to come eat.
Yuuji's merfolk name is probably gonne be the first word Yuuji learns. and Yuuji's actual human name is gonna be the first human word Megumi attempts to say.
very name focused here lmao, mainly bc im 10 chapters deep and no names have been able to he exchanged. and they're a universal thing when it comes to language and culture, everyone and everything has some sort of name.
I feel like Yuuji will start the process of learning names when he tries to call Megumi by name, only to realize he has no clue what it is lmao. this'll probably maybe happen in the next few chapters ?? im not sure, but it will happen before the romance/accidental courting becomes more obvious lol
BTW !! if you're curious on what Megumi named Yuuji, it directly translates into "Scar Face" which is actually insulting name. when their relationship develops, the name will change to be less insulting.
mermaids lowkey have a warrior cats or wings of fire naming convention with an east asian alphabet, like mandarin or japanese. while Megumi's name is pronounced and is translated as "Megumi", directly translating the characters its written with it means something different. i believe i made it so Megumi translates directly into "Abyss/shadow Born"
((i forgot if i named him Born or Child, and Abyss and Shadow are the same word in their language))
if you're confused about the translate/direct translate thing, an english example would be the surname "Shoemaker." it is made up from the words "shoe" and "maker", but together it's read and reconized as a last name.
