Clean Room Practices In Aseptic Area
An Aseptic Area is a designated space with a defined particulate and microbiological cleanliness standard. It is designed to maintain a low count of airborne particles through a series of protocols designed particularly to ensure the designated space is “clean”. This process helps in minimizing contamination, maintenance, and cost. Such rooms are used for scientific research purposes and in pharmaceutical companies manufacturing drugs. To describe this in a layman’s term, an Aseptic Area is designed to keep dust, airborne particles, and micro-organisms from coming in contact with the product that is being handled inside the designated space. Additionally, it also helps in containing the particles present inside the room.
To attain this level of hygiene, a strict protocol is put in place for the staff to follow in case they step into the Aseptic Area:
● The individual must wear sterile protective gear that covers the entire body.
● Disinfect the personnel head to toe again before entering the Aseptic Area.
● No cosmetic, jewelry or any other skincare products.
● No physical contact with other personnel.
● Avoid speaking as much as possible.
● Move slowly and avoid fast movement.
● Avoid picking up items dropped on the floor unless under exceptional situations.
● Place the materials being handled only in the designated areas.
● The work area should be clean and items should not clutter.
● Sanitize the glove frequently.
● Everything used in the work area needs to stay inside unless they are sealed properly for disposal.
While there are many other protocols that need to be kept in consideration depending on the situation and various industrial standards, these steps are fundamental to every clean room practice in an aseptic area if we are to maintain safety for those working around potentially dangerous materials.
