Mersang submitted: Flipped through my screenshots and did a face-study of Marianne. I saw no evidence of a mole. (Dawn doesn’t have one either, but I didn’t make a collage of her face yet..)

It’s definitely there in the beginning of the movie (we see it on her right cheek during the “Do you think Roland loves me as much as I love him?” scene), but then it seemingly disappears, although its small enough that we may just not be seeing it.

Perfection. I may go off and watch a few fluffy penguin videos, now that you’ve put me in the mind for it!

Mersang submitted: THAT SCENE where Bog gives Marianne The Flower – where he carefully tucks it into her hair behind her ear and strokes her cheek being all super-careful about his claws and she leans into his touch and then she touches the flower and touches her cheek where he did and the way they look at each other –!

But right before that – he shows her the flower before he puts it in her hair. Partly so she won’t have to pull it out to see what he gave her, but also – he’s not just putting it on her; he’s asking permission to give it to her. This isn’t a visible way to mark and claim her, the way love-dusted Dawn slapped a boutonniere on Bog. He’s offering her a gift and giving her the chance, the choice, to reject or accept it. She accepts.

And then they totally kiss, because Roland got lost and led the army in the wrong direction and wouldn’t listen to Sunny, who actually knows where the castle is, and then Roland fell in the mud so he had to run back to the Fairy Kingdom to wash his hair and couldn’t come back till the next day, but that’s too late because Sunny split off to go rescue Dawn by himself and broke the spell, so by sunrise both princesses are already back at the fairy castle and Marianne has a date – “It’s not a date, Dawn” – to go spar with Bog again that night.

I love absolutely everything about this, but especially that you brought up how Bog silently but obviously asks Marianne permission to give her the flower. Compared to Roland, who has done nothing but force his attention on her and try to take what he wants…

Bog is the actual best boyfriend, there is no lie. 

I love the idea of Roland getting lost due to his own arrogance and pride and Sunny pretty much NOPING right the fuck when he realizes that this idiot is what Dagda has deemed their best chance at getting Dawn back. 

Oh, okay, Marianne, it’s not a date at all, it’s just lots of fight-flirting and held gazes and panting from exertion that leads to panting from…emotion. 

And it just so happens that that one little sparring bout calls for a lot of body-to-body contact…

So yeah, TOTALLY not a date. 

I actually have a fanfic planned where Bog and Marianne do get that kiss…though it doesn’t go as expected…I can’t say anymore! 

THIS IS SO WONDERFUL, THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Mersang submitted: This butterfly with transparent wings has a Spanish name, “espejitos,” which means “little mirrors.” If it wasn’t for the opaque outline around the wings, the average observer might not see one perched on a leaf or flower.

Adult glasswing butterflies will often migrate great distances, and males of the species are known to lek, or gather in large groups for the purpose of competitive mating displays

Ooooooh, how beautiful! I’ve seen pictures of these butterflies before, I love how you applied them to possible Butterfly Bog kids!

Mersang submitted: In the first and second images, you can see the purplish skin around Marianne’s wings. In the second and third images, you can see the greenish markings under her arms and edging towards her chest. Also, in the third picture she looks kind of like she’s presenting Bog on a game show.

Ahhh, thank you for such wonderful references! Dear god, do I love Bogs little I’m About To Throw Up From Sheer Nerves But I Can’t Because The Most Amazing Girl Is In Front Of Me smile in that last picture...

I love this movie so much that I kind of hate to do this … but … I spotted an animation goof.

When Marianne falls into the Dark Forest for the first time, the twigs and tangles in her hair vanish and it switches to its usual style. Her hair goes back to being mussed and twiggy after her escape.

Also, the juncture of Dawn’s wings and her shoulders is inconsistent. In most close shots where we see her back, the base of the struts are pink fading to black and join her back smoothly, but in a few far shots (and in every shot of Marianne from behind), the colour changes immediately and makes the struts look like dark sticks poking through her skin.

I assume there were different animation models, since fairy wings were designed to move differently in closeups than in long-shots. We don’t see anyone else’s wing-joints that closely, other than Bog’s. Based on the clothing, it’s possible fairies have a taboo on exposing that part of the back. Something interesting to note - Marianne’s skin between and around her wings is tinged purple, a similar colour to her wing membrane/pigment scales. We don’t see whether any other fairies have that, but I like to think they do.

No, this is all fascinating! I love finding little bits like this, thank you for sharing them with me! 

On your idea about it being a taboo for fairies to expose that part of their back, I agree. It would make sense, especially if you consider the idea that the bases to their wings are very sensitive and vulnerable…

Not to mention the fact that it adds an extra layer of sauciness to Marianne doing that lovely little finger walk up Bog’s spine…*waggles eyebrows*  

Have you noticed that Marianne has little tinges of green near her arms and on the tips of her ears? I can’t remember if we have that with Dawn, but I love that little detail so so so much. I’m gonna go back and see if I can see the purple tinges now!
