In Yareli’s footsteps
Intented to be a youtube miniature for a Waverider quest guide.
Tennotober 2021 - Day 22: Ventkids
My proposed solution to improve Yareli (Warframe)
Merulina is supposed to be Yareli's pet (that she can ride like a k-drive) so let's actually make it into a pet; like Khora's Venari.
Base mechanic would be that of a Velocipod (from Cambion Drift); persistent pet that's mountable on activation.
Merulina would primarily act as a support/caster pet that would:
*passively buff Yareli's survivability (periodic healing/health Regen and/or energy regen)
*use toned down version or Sea Snares and Aquablades as part of its offense (shorter duration, range and number of spheres/blades)
*utilize a short dash attack and tail sweep attack on enemies in melee range
*It would be able to use companion mods (following rules for exalted pets)
*(The above attacks could either be part of its passive abilities or they could be made available as precepts)
Ability activation would allow Yareli to instantly mount Merulina (deactivating companion mode and associated mods). Mounts and dismounts would provide brief invulnerability.
In addition to its normal function of absorbing damage:
*Speed bursts would have a tidal Surge effect.
*Merulina could execute a 'tail whip'; causing stagger/KD in a small radius.
*Activation would 'pixie' Yareli (like Titania's Razorwing); giving Yareli a bonus to evasion and allowing her to travel through indoor maps with a bit more efficiency.
Butterboard (Warframe)
Not to beat a dead horse but since they're doing another tweak pass on Yareli; here goes.
They've addressed everything except the thing that needed addressing the most; her k-drive. When put against other k-drives, let's just say the modular board in her inventory, it just doesn't measure up.
On trick runs, a modular k-drive can be modded to jump higher, perform more trick combos and rack up higher trick points than Yareli's k-drive.
On speed runs, a modular k-drive can be modded to achieve higher speeds than Yareli's k-drive.
In combat, a modular k-drive can be modded to provide 5 seconds of spammable invulnerability and energy recovery for executing tricks. Dismounts can be made to do damage. There are other ways modulars can be moddeed to cause damage; although negligible, it's still damage.
Yareli's invulnerability phase on dismount pales in comparison but at least it does have a decent damage mitigating ability and you can cast her abilities on it.
If I'm Yareli in open world, I would rarely EVER use her k-drive over a modular one.
At the most basic, Merulina should be upgraded to where it's innately competitive with a regular, modded k-drive.
The other side by side I wanted to do took some time to think about. There is another non-exalted vehicle power that could be used as a measuring stick; Titania's Razorwing.
Comparatively, they both suck at indoor maneuverability. You would have to play either at low speed to keep from eating the map. However, Razorwing tries to remedy this by shrinking the player to reduce collision opportunity.
Razorwing has a damage mitigation tool; as does Merulina but Razorwing's is multi-faceted. Evasion and threat redirection.
Razorwing also deals drone damage; whereas Merulina contributes none.
Should Merulina inherit a channeling cost to be on par with just these aspects of Razorwing? No. Razorwing comes with 2 exalted weapons to justify that channeling cost.
Just some observations on where improvements can be made on a non-exalted k-drive.
As far as the upcoming change to allow bullet jumping (of sorts) while on Merulina; I hope that at least comes with bullet jump damage...
The Aquablades changes (25% range/50% damage) are the most dramatic; as it's the subsumable ability. This make builds like Roar Yareli or Aquablades Ash even more potent and makes it viable on other frames that could normally take a pass on it.
Sea Snares really didn't need anything; so the QoL changes are appreciated but not critical.
Still not a fan of Riptide; even with the 25% range improvement.
