Knight of the Old Guard
About 600 years old
Married to Anthe
Assigned Knight to: Cupiea
Works with Cupiea and Anthe
Lives in the Summer domains with Anthe and Cupiea
Works for the Summer Queen/Summer Court
Is originally from the Firelands
More noble personality until you get to know her (especially before and during the war), kind of has an ego/issues with overconfidence. After the war, she loses a lot of that noble personality and is more playful, fun, sometimes spiteful, and smug.
Playful rivalry with Fenna (both just tease each other, as they are both legendary Knights. Just playful challenges and teasing)
Can be reborn again and again, essentially immortal (phoenix)
Gargantuan size (15-foot body in chimera form, 40-foot wingspan)
Can fly (wings)
Produces fire
Extremely magical (Can ward off evil within range for themselves and others, magical healing properties, spellcasting, can travel through the astral and ethereal plane, etc.)
Knights of the Old Guard served the Seasonal Courts in the Seven Season War.
Made up of Chimera-kind creatures (hybrids or two or more very magical parents, or things like Manticores, Owlbears, who have a humanoid form
They are all fey creatures (as is everyone in the Feywild)
Can change between forms at will
Extremely powerful
Helped turn the tide of the Seven-Season War, restoring peace between the lands
Near nobility. Heavily respected.
Mostly stay in integrated humanoid forms.
All honorably discharged after the Seven-Season War, though some still work for the Courts during peacetime. Some fled to the Material Realm, others to Doveacean villages. Some have positions in the Courts, helping in Seasonal politics.
They are the reason Doveacean villages are left alone; they essentially guard them.
Cannot speak in Chimera forms
Often heavily scarred in both human and Chimera forms
During the Seven-Season War, the Knights had to guide Doveacean messengers through hostile territory and were assigned to Doveaceans as personal Knights, hence why their species are so close and why the Knights tend to live in Doveacean villages
Knights rank higher than Doveaceans
All female divisions of the Knights guard places like where the Nymphs and Dryads live.
There are also all-male and mixed sex divisions of the Knights.
Knights typically have Seconds, who speak for them and help command them when in Chimera form.
Knights protected Doveaceans not solely because they were told, but because they saw the value in Doveaceans. Knights/Seconds were one of the main groups that wanted the war to be done with, to be finished, right alongside the Doveaceans. Knights/Seconds rank highly because of their willingness to protect, to end the war, and not only does the Feywild at large respect them all heavily, but there's an added layer for Doveaceans. The Knights/Seconds viewed the Doveaceans as so valuable that they were willing to sacrifice themselves for them, willing to protect them instead of just aimlessly fighting with armies. Doveaceans respect and revere the Knights/Seconds heavily. It isn't that they aren't friendly with Knights/Seconds, they are like family to them, but they have such a heavy respect for them that it shines through always.
Formal wear depends on rank and Court, shoulder armor is typical of Knights in formal wear (silver for Winter Courts, gold for Summer Courts, rose gold for Spring Courts, copper for Autumn Courts), plus whatever their usual fancy clothes are, Seconds wear metal headpieces/chains (like those worn by royalty in the past in the metal aligning with their Court, adorned with the symbols Knights/Seconds have on their foreheads designating who they are tied to), Doveacean messengers wear their fancy work attire (heavily decorated leotards, usually, stylized to them and their Court). They also all wear the symbol of their trio, typically over their heart.
Each trio has a symbol they wear during work/ceremonies/with formal wear.
Knights of the Old Guard have tattoos in their respective Court's color detailing what their Chimera form is. The first two creatures are on either bicep, with the dominant creature on the right bicep. If you have more than two creatures combined to make your Chimera, the next available places are as follows: abdomen, back, right thigh, left thigh, right calf, left calf, etc. The tattoos themselves are animated, moving around based on a Knight's emotional state.
There are rankings within Knights, such as distinctions for Legendary Knights.
There are magical artifacts that prevent Knights from having an effect on their Seconds and Messengers, such as the magical amulet that prevents Jabberwocks from making their Seconds and Messengers confused/scared, so they can continue working
