My friend I’ve known since we were in middle school has been working fast food jobs since she was 16 and still does to this day and we are both 21. My other friend, who’s the same age, is doing display organization for the plants at Lowe’s (retail, basically). It’s pretty difficult branching out from food service or retail unless you spin your resume really well tbh.

If you want to branch out and you attend college you could look into work study positions, they’ll hire just about anyone and it really gets you experience in desk work and the like. Dental offices are also usually hiring and will hire without experience (my job).

We’re all different and get different opportunities but that is all to say, I’d say it’s pretty normal to be our age and working fast food/retail still!

when you’re 16 it’s almost impossible to get any job other than fast food 😭 at least where I live anyway. yeah my college does internships/work study when you’re a senior and I’m a junior this year so I’ll probably try that next year if I can! that way it’ll be in whatever field I want to go in.
