How do you feel about tony abbott being kicked out? I'm happy but I also don't know who this new guy is.
Ahhhhh I have so many thoughts on this. I’m very pleased that Abbott is out because I couldn’t stand him much longer. Back in February he was challenged and after he won he claimed ‘Good government starts today’ and yet literally nothing changed except he continued to make mistakes and anger the public. If Abbott won again, we would just be waiting for someone else to challenge him again until we could finally get the Liberals out for good. So I’m glad we’re finally making what feels like progress, even if it’s still the same party.
As for Malcolm Turnbull, I’m actually pretty keen to see how he will go. He’s much more socially progressive and he’s considered to be quite moderate, compared to Abbott who has been continually conservative right wing. So having a more moderate leader is always promising to me. Turnbull has also apparently been pushing for Australia to take in more Syrian refugees, and is also pro same-sex marriage, two big wins for me!
I know people are worried because having Turnbull in means we are less likely to throw out the Liberal party at the next election but it also mean the Labor party really needs to step up their game if they want to win the next election, instead of just relying on Anti-Abbott campaigns.
So yeah there’s a few of my long winded thoughts! Basically #byetony is my new fave thing ever. Also now we might finally get a woman for Minister for Women instead of a misogynistic idiot :D
