“I can’t believe you talked me into this,” Cassian groaned.
He looked himself over one last time in the small mirror over his bunk while Jyn finished getting ready; and while everything seemed more or less in order – his tie was on straight, his jacket was pressed, and his pants were neatly hemmed – Cassian had never felt more like an imposter in his life.
The door to the next room opened, then, and Cassian turned as he heard Jyn enter. He gasped reflexively at the sight of her, wearing delicate heels and a form-fitting white gown that hugged her body everywhere he’d longed to touch her since before Eadu.
“I can’t believe I talked us into this, either,” Jyn muttered, stumbling a little in her unfamiliar new shoes, her hands fiddling with the clasp of the diamond necklace Leia lent her. “You were right; we should have let Skywalker and Solo accept the award for all of us.”
Later, during the ceremony, Cassian tried to focus as the Princess gave them their medals in turn; but all he could think about was Jyn – his friend; his comrade; the fiery, beautiful woman he loved – and how grateful he was for this brief shared moment in time.
Leave the first sentence of a fic in my Ask box and I will write the next five. :)
