Day one.
Let's be honest. Today I didn't exactly know what to expect as I arrived to work ten minutes early, and stood awkwardly with Macbook in hand outside the house of my summer employer. After a cheerful welcome, I spent the better part of 45 minutes trying to find an available username that didn't include any numbers. Many people may guffaw at this, but until you've tried to make your username be something other than "jonathan.applebottom129", don't knock me.
After successfully creating a username that I could be proud of, I had a nice tall glass of water to celebrate. Following the festivities, I had a sit down with my boss and talked about my future ambitions within the two fields of Journalism and Computer Science, and then opened him up to the fast paced world of Hurling (the national sport of Ireland).
All this excitement caused me to work up quite the appetite and I soon found myself walking around downtown attempting to find a place to eat lunch... Who knew that so many places would be closed on a Monday. Maybe the owners were taking a bit of Michael Scott's advice and were at home cuddled in a blanket watching "Varsity Blues" to cure their bad case of "The Monday's". Finally we found a place to eat and after sitting down, just the two of us "amigos", we enjoyed a cultural lunch of enchiladas and burritos. No rhyme intended.
Lunch drew to a close and I was soon back to work. Back to setting up my Twitter, Fuelly and Mefi accounts and much to my dismay, creating more usernames. Thank God for the notepad in my iPhone, for without it, I just might have gone crazy having to write down all my account info the "old fashioned way" with a pen and paper. After finalizing the set up of all my accounts, I received my "TO DO lists" for the night, and packed myself up to leave. As I walked down the steps I had stood upon in excited uncertainty earlier that day, I had nothing but pure excitement and a desire to learn as much as possible in the days to come, filling my thoughts.
