language on Dept Q

I must say my little self from years ago, chastised back then for any use of a 'bad word,' is weirdly happy about the foul language on this show. And NOT, mind you, by the mere 'fuck' here or there--this is something you can find anywhere these days. On Dept Q, every 'shite' and 'fuck' is used with a specific meaning and referenced in a methodical, precise way.

The person who embodies this best is, arguably, not Carl but Moira. She can use 'fuck' as a noun, verb, interjection, and adjective--all in one speech. Even when she says she is 'fucking speechless'! :-)

I hope someone with more patience writes a proper long post on the way language works on the show, because I would like to read it. ;-) About the actual words and expressions used, including the Scottish flavour, AND about the way the characters discuss language on a meta level. About tatty-bye and cheerios. About Carl and Rose discussing 'cunt' and Chaucer. About Carl using 'fuck off' in the most tender way with Hardy during his low moment (above). About 'I don't give a fuck, which means I don't give a fuck,' and Dr Fiona's 'opprobrious' and 'scurrilous'. About 'fucking hell' said by Carl and by Rose. And more.

3. Who do they worry about the most? - "Honestly?" Her brows stitch together, an uncomfortable sort of amusement playing on the miqo'te's expression. "Call me vain, but... myself. Always." She gives a sort of shrug, clearly considering rolling with her usual vibrato but deciding to take on a more serious tone: "When you are told to save the world, when you are told you are so important, when everyone relies on you... I have to keep myself safe, because if I miss my step then the whole song and dance falls apart." Learning not to throw herself to the wolves was a quick lesson for Fisa- who is there to save the world when she is dead? If her lack of peace and rest has taught her anything, the answer is no one.

8. How do they feel about the fame/infamy that comes with being a Warrior of Light/Darkness? - "Hah!" Eyes closing she presses her palm against her cheek with fingers splayed as if posing for a gpose shot. "Honestly, it has been so long since I had been recognized as a Warrior. I take a more solid back foot on saving the world now, but it is always nice to be in the spotlight." In reality, the pressure over the lifetimes had been getting to Fisa, making her feel like she's suffocating everytime she makes a wrong decision. Its easier without the entire show being focused around her, but the cat does love her attention now and then, and you won't catch her in a moment of weakness if she can help it!

18. Na'fisa folds her ears down, lips contorting into a thoughtful pout while she looks off to the side in thought. "Something I wouldn't tell anyone..." She presses her usual confidence to avoid betraying the way the question and answer actually makes her feel. (Though her tail may betray that anyways.) "I try not to tell people about their other lives- how they are, or what their story is in the other lifetimes. Some people want to know- sometimes they want to know how things could have been." A small shrug. "But not everything should be known. No one needs to know when they acted against their own morality, or when the world didn't work out the way it should, or when.. when we have a deep relationship that their current self wouldn't understand." Despite herself, red is rising to her cheeks. "After all, every experience is unique and it makes a person."

19. "Oh, many." She chuckles. "Originally it was none worth mentioning at all. Then stolen teachings, or sneakily eavesdropped lessons. But the more my fate got involved in important matters, the more I had access to anything I wanted to learn. Each lifetime I would start with something new- now there is few things I do not know at least the basics of." There is a thoughtful pause, then she adds on with a tone: "Just don't ask me about cooking, or alchemy." She waves her claw like such is obvious. "Sometimes, no matter how many mentors you have- you just don't enjoy something. Things are always better when they're from someone with passion for them." Nice way to avoid saying you're not good at something, Fisa.

Help! I’m trapped in the meta level!

Could someone ask me to explain an underutilized and comparatively effective route to atheism?

Actually having a real human ask me to do things makes my mind want to work. Imagining the scenario does not have the same effect. In the same way talking to a person in front of me is different from talking to someone in my head.
