mol's childhood pre 20th century wouldn't have been like... awful.

i mean yeah later on after wwi everything starts to go to shit but any time he would have spent with ivan before that would have been comparatively happy. i mean ivan's not a bad guy, let's be real -- he's the victim of a lot of extenuating circumstances and yeah, it doesn't excuse a lot of his actions, but at this point in time... mol is a little boy and ivan hasn't totally lost it and, given that ivan would have been a major factor in romanian independence, they probably got along pretty well!

there are multiple directions everything could go but i like to think that it was actually exposure to ivan from early on that really solidified mol as a personality and representation in his own right, separate from his brother.  OF COURSE ivan talking up independence and a moldovan identity -- that part more later on -- would have contributed, but a lot of the push for moldovan independence on aph mol's part was i think due in part to 1) a desire to reconnect with the past nation of moldavia that would have been gone before aph mol appeared 2) the natural reluctance to be completely dependent on his brother, which is another complicated story for another day.  these, along with his brother's sheer awful behavior during the interwar period, would have not only culminated in emma's tatarbunary strip, but also in my own interpretation of how the handover of bessarabia went -- which is to say, aph mol willingly goes with ivan.

(it's a bad decision.  it's an awful decision.  mol regrets it within a couple of decades.  but it was based on his previous experiences of ivan, which again... i don't think were bad ones.)

and a lot of that is because ivan would have actively encouraged things ro would have discouraged.  (again, see the moldovan identity.)  both of them had their reasons for doing so, but mol is a child and doesn't understand the full ramifications of either decision no matter how much he thinks he does... 

tl;dr THE POINT IS the whole reason the rift between the brothers ends up existing is because ivan is nice enough that mol wants to listen to him.  ivan wouldn't have been cruel to mol at all early in the beginning.  that wouldn't have happened until long after wwi, and i doubt it was ever specified.

say we broke the "ro must always be poor" rule, and for some reason, he goes from rags to riches, how charitable would he be with his money? Is he some sort of scrooge?

well, that really depends

i wouldn't call ro a scrooge simply because he really sucks at saving money.  he has money, he's spending it.  even if it's like 3 lei and won't buy him very much to begin with he will spend it immediately.  his logic is that he has no idea what he's going to have to put the money toward in the future so he MIGHT AS WELL spend it now... which is a really stupid position to have, but ok ro, you do you

ASSUMING HIS MONEY DOES STACK he would. actually be pretty charitable, i think, at least toward causes that he likes.  kids and stuff.  like he's going to be putting in all sorts of stuff for kids, parks and field trips and all that kind of stuff, and he might lend money to serb or mol, but otherwise it'll all go toward himself.  he actually has pretty expensive taste, he just can't currently afford it.

so i don't know, he's pretty in-between.  i wouldn't call him a scrooge, but i wouldn't pin him as a shining beacon of charity either.  he's absolutely the kind of guy that refuses to do something just because he's been asked to do it.

how do u think ro would celebrate his birthday??

i think it varies! #aph #headcanons

in r.omania tomorrow they'll have parades and parties much like on any other country's national day, so i mean that's pretty cool, having a parade on your birthday. 

as for more casual stuff: he's an extravert, he likes to spend time around other people interacting and partying and all those things people who are good at being social do.  he'll be around his friends most of the time, and if they're not in town, he's definitely calling them up to talk.

'going out on the town' can, for him, mean anything from hitting 10 different bars in a single evening to a fancy-dress gala or opera, if the century's a little older.  he enjoys that whole range equally, believe it or not.

he's a big drinker, alcohol will absolutely be in the picture regardless of the format.

he's not opposed to a night in if it's with someone like his brother -- he'd be okay with just hanging out, although mol being mol that will include a cake and presents, which are actually things ro DOESN'T mind foregoing.

usually, though, he's going to try to not spend it by himself.  that just seems like a waste to him; of all times to be out and around other people, this is definitely one of them, so why would he shut himself indoors?? absolutely not ew

i could probably make a whole list or chart or graph or something of ro's headcanon relationships with people,but that would be so time consuming,i realize a lot of my headcanons seem to contradict each other and the reality is that they... kind of don't?,it just seems that way because different relationships take priority at different times of ro's life, and you could trace his development based on the people he's surrounded himself with,as well as his maturity level,in recent centuries he's more willing to go befriend those that he Only Ever Fought with,and it's a real demonstration of how he's matured

can i ask about serbro being the ambiguously gay couple and your headcanons for them?

the thing about s.erbro is that for some reason when they first meet they literally just. they hit it off.  everything clicks.  no one is really sure why.  ro starts saying he has “no friends but the serbs and the black sea” which, honestly, is pretty true.

it’s really rare to find someone in all this bullshit that you don’t end up hating off and on every century, and ro and serb are so consistent in being friends that everyone is a little uncomfortable about it.  these two were absolutely those middle schoolers who were obsessed with each other and convinced they would get married and have ten kids (<— probably an actual discussion ro made them have).  i’m not saying first kiss, but i’m not not saying that either.

however, for as much as they loved (and STILL love) each other, they’re also devoted partners in crime and, though of course all the aph balkans have had their moments, ro and serb are quite likely responsible for a lot of the more deadly pranks that would have occured as children.  they especially liked to pick on bul, whom i feel only vaguely sorry for.

in modern day they’re still super close; serb is the only person who’s not annoyed by ro texting him 10 times a minute and ro is the only person who puts up with serb’s rants and laments for longer than a few seconds.  if they get pissed at each other, they’ve made up again by the time the hour changes.  they’re generally just extremely comfortable with each other in a way that they aren’t with anyone else, and usually each other’s first choice when in need of advice or support.

EDIT: addendum.  ro is just a super affectionate person by nature, like he loves pet names and physical care and gentle touching and he is all about romantic gestures and really fucking sappy shit like that and serb has just.  he's never actually told ro to cut it out.  and he's the only one who's never done that.  so that's pretty gay

can i ask you about your robul+mol headcanons??

i can give you a few for sure!

mol is the only child bul has ever liked, mainly because he takes care of himself and doesn’t wear diapers.

ro’s the one carrying bul out of a bar at the end of the night.

bul and mol have a Ro’s Emotional Upkeep Taskforce, where they tag-team each other on making sure he’s okay.  usually this is a phone call every couple days or so.  sometimes it’s a little more work.

mol insists on planning a surprise birthday party for bul every year.

it’s a surprise because bul keeps lying about when his birthday is (he hates surprises)

so mol literally plans it for a different day on a different month every year.  no one knows when it will be.  this child is a master of flash mobs.

ro’s very proud of him.

bul is horrible at comforting people; usually he’ll try and wrap one of them in a blanket, and hope the sentiment gets across.

mol absolutely tells people that he has two fathers and that he turned out alright.

usually, though, he just calls bul his uncle.

the greatest gift ro ever gave bul was a whole day of total silence.

it nearly killed ro.

headcannon where ro wears godawful patterned sleep masks and when he wakes up the morning after he forgets to take them off and wanders around his home while everyone else screams in terror forgive my horrid writing its so late
