Meta-Reflection 4

The quote that sets the tone of the article is “International social work must no longer be regarded as peripheral to the apparently core task of social workers . . . [because] all social work practice, wherever it occurs, must now be regarded as working at the global/local level”. When she talks about the arrangement with the university is when she talked about culture shock and how it is surprising for the students who go. She also talks about how their work can help globally. Though we cannot break the barrier, it is easier to understand that it can make a difference to try. I personally think I would look into the program because it sounds like it can be a life-changing experience.
This posting was the staring post to answer the question that went for Barbara Heron’s article. I was the first one to post and it was about international social practice. I had brought a quote up to explain how the article was set to answer the question about how people were to react. I wanted to write this because I understand how culture shock can make a person react from personal experiences. I still agree with what I wrote. There were two responses to my post. The first was someone agreeing to what I wrote and emphasized the fact that young people only understand one culture, which is their own. She then went on to explain that youth can make a difference, and that she loves that idea. I personally agree with her because the youth is such a large population that we can and will make a difference in todays society, no matter where we are. The next response was about his experience in a foreign area. He understood the difference and was there to help others. Both of the responses seemed to understand what I was putting because they both answered in either agreement or an additional comment to help cement my post. These responses made me realize that I still had much to learn from the article.
