Alright in ascending order:
3. Epicus Doomicus Metallicus by Candlemass
This makes my list because it doesn't try too hard. It's simple, it's scary, it's fucking metal.
2. Dopesmoker by Sleep
Obviously one of my favorites, being the background of the blog and all, but seriously, earns number two for me because it's an awesome blend of quasi-religious imagery and metal awesomeness (guy with huge sword AND a three headed snake). It looks like a spirit vision one of the pilgrims from the album would have while staring at his exhaled smoke.
1. Dopethrone by Electric Wizard
This is my favorite doom album cover of all time because it manages to encapsulate exactly what the album is in one image. Yes, that is the devil smoking a bong. It strikes a perfect balance of classic metal imagery combined with stoner fantasy and clearly shows that the band has a sense of humour.
(I apologise if these seem a bit obvious, but isn't that true of most Top ____ lists?)
