Last batch of build pictures of the octopus. Once all the tentacles were tacked in place and I was happy with the fitting on the chest,I permanently welded them in position. Scraps of sheet metal were cut and formed to make the webbing between the tentacles and also welded into place, then it was just a case of alot of welding to build up the basic shape followed shortly by alot of grinding ! This continued until I had built it up and was happy with the form.Next was to fill all the imperfections with spot welds and grind them back out and start the finishing process , once I'd got a semi shiny finish I spot welded all the suckers on the underside... no small task!! Finally another quick polish down to a good sheen before thoroughly heating the whole thing up with the oxy acetylene once I'd got it as hot as I could it was into a bath of old engine oil ... was hard to get an even coating so I ended up re applying oil to some bits with a brush and giving it another going over with the heat .Once I was happy it was dark enough I buffed mainly the tops of the tentacles and body back to bare metal leaving a nice shadow effect on the untouched parts . Quick clear coat to seal it all in and done . The octopus is completely removable from the chest so both can be displayed together or separately .And if you got this far well done and thanks for reading👍 #metaloctopus #octopus #nautical #sealife #seacreatures #eightleggedfreaks #treasure #losttreasure #treasurechest #jewels #gold #metalart #migwelded #migart #mig #steelart #metal #madenotbought #madebyhand #handmade #handcrafted #oneofakind #metalartist #madeinleicester #artinleicester #leicesterart #leicesterartist #salvagesistercharis #sharemydremel #tentacles @dremel_ea @dremel @foredomelectric @sealeytools @benchmarkabrasives @jasictech_official @jasictech @empire_abrasives https://www.instagram.com/p/CFu3EUoD2Gl/?igshid=nhcztalvifl4
