On Methee's and Thaenthai's past (after episode 4)
Thaenthai mentioning that he and Methee used to play together as children really changes the entire dynamic of their relationship. Thee isn't just someone who was hired to protect Thaenthai and fell in love with his charge. He's an old playmate. An older playmate, if the characters' ages reflect the actors'. Someone Thaenthai has known, trusted, and quite possibly looked up to, for years, if not decades.
At what point did they realize just how far apart in status they were? Thee would have realized it first. The poor always see inequality before the rich do.
How far did their relationship go? I don't think they're current boyfriends, they don't have that vibe (though I could be wrong). But did they take the first tentative steps, before their different roles pushed them apart again?
When Thee tells Tinn that Thaenthai isn't what he seems, he's not just talking about the current Thaenthai, the petulant, self-destructive hedonist who doesn't have enough fucks left for anybody, least of all himself. He's talking about the Thaenthai that was, the child and the young boy, that Thee took care of not because it was his duty, but because that's what you do when you've got a younger friend.
Was Thatthep's abuse always this brutal? Thaenthai begs Thee to take him away, but this man who he trusts to protect him (who he has always trusted to protect him) is powerless to do so when it really counts. How many times have they had similar conversations before? How long has Thaenthai spoken of death as a form of escape?
This isn't just your employer, your charge, your crush. This is your childhood friend begging you to help him out or let him die.
Did they try to run, at some point? Is there a crushed rebellion behind Thee's reluctancy, or was he always this cautious, this aware of their restraints? Was there ever a time when they believed they could be free?
They have started to run around in my brain, little boy Thee and little boy Thaen. We'll see what the second half of the series brings, if it's enough to sate my questions, or if I'll have to let this plot bunny turn into a fully grown plot.
