Angel 2x5 - "Dear Boy"
PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK (1975) dir. Peter Weir
This is the 85 year old creator of Roger Rabbit:
[Image description: letter to the editor from a magazine (no title or date information visible). It reads:
"Given that 99.9% of us are incapable of making a record of any description, I think it is grossly unfair that artistes who have achieved a solitary success on the hit parade are insultingly referred to as 'One-Hit Wonders'. Let me assure your readers that, had I written Kung Fu Fighting, I would spend every waking hour waving my cock around and referring to everyone I met as 'no-hit cunts'.

i wish we were able to talk about women's rights without someone mentioning how much they do or don't want to have sex with them. i don't care if you're a lesbian Stop finding worth in women purely from their perceived attractiveness
"I think women should not be expected to shave for societal respect / to avoid discrimination" "yeah🤤 i love bush" ok well that's not what we're talking about is it.
i hate how many posts about trans women deserving respect always devolve into "I love girldick" or "trans rights but I don't want to date a trans person" because that's entirely unrelated to the topic at hand. you should not respond to feminism with "YESSS I loveeee you because I see you as nothing but a sex object" you people sound like other men I get stuck talking with that end up saying "free the nipple so I can see boobies in public" and thinking they're feminists. why can't we just respect women regardless of your attraction to them or not. why does it need to be brought up in every conversation regarding their rights
I'm gonna say it, I do think that even the laziest person imaginable should have a roof over their head, food in their stomach, and access to healthcare
a lot of people are reblogging this saying that most "lazy" people are actually just disabled or that the concept of laziness itself is a product of our society's obsession with productivity. this is all true, but it is not my point.
even if someone WAS just lazy and simply didn't want to do anything but lie on the couch and watch tv, they should still have these things. it's irrelevant whether some people aren't actually lazy because everyone, including hypothetical lazy people, should have their basic needs met.
if we have the resources to do it, there is no defense of letting people die because they don't want to work, and much less because they can't.
I don't want lazy people to have basic necessities because they "actually" deserve them because they ARE working or CAN'T work. I want lazy people to have basic necessities because they are people, and we shouldn't leave them to die when we have the resources not to.

think before you write "old man" instead of "middle aged man" yaoi
or yuri! has that woman passed menopause? no? middle aged!!
and again: those 30 somethings are not old men, they aren't even middle aged.
[union shrek voice] they aren't even middle aged....
This has been a debate since use of the term began, see the Old Man Yaoi Fanlore page to learn more.
"Claws like sharpened bananas shot toward me."
this sentence is
good
bad
ITS EVOCATIVE! LIKE GREAT BIG HUGE BANANAS EXCEPT SHARP!
YOU DO IT ON ONE OF THESE! OBVIOUSLY!!!
a lot of people are very angry with me over this, but I'd just like you to sit down and imagine a banana. maybe a green one so it's extra firm. if you need it to be harder, you can toss it in the freezer.
and that brown end? the hard bit? pencil sharpener. or sharpened with a blade. are you following me? now, attach six of those to a harpy.
yeah. I think you're seeing the vision. you can apologize to me any time you're ready
check in time:
I see the vision
it's still really bad
GOD DAMN IT!
I hope this comes across as positive/complimentary: I'm reminded of the art teacher who is quoted somewhere on tumblr as saying approximately
I do not like this style. I will never like this style. ... My biggest criticism is that I merely dislike this [art project]. Make me hate it. Make me furious over how much fun you're having with this thing I hate.
You don't need that teacher's advice, though. You're already having so much fun that tumblr is furious.
i have attempted the impossible — making banana Sharp — and i have good news and bad news
As preamble: i am one of the proud 27% who voted “good” on the first poll (didn’t see the second in time to vote). And, in fact, I found the imagery of “claws like sharpened bananas” so provocative i just had to give sharpening a banana a go (plus i remembered i threw some ripe bananas in the freezer like five months ago and thought hey, might as well! bananas, i’m sorry i failed to use you in smoothies as intended; i hope you find peace knowing you were donated to science instead. Rest In Peels.)
For my first attempt, I decided to take the easiest though least faithful-to-the-vision route first: sharpening the banana stem.
I was delighted to discover that a banana stem does fit into a pencil sharpener, so i got grinding.
And grinding.
And grinding.
Things were looking promising at first, but i rotated that thing in the sharpener for over three minutes and after a certain point, it just stopped getting sharper. I guess it became too narrow for the sharpener to like, reach?
(Pictured: the moment my wife asked me what the fuck i was doing to that banana)
But luckily my wife appeared around this time and, after expressing extreme bemusement, she acquiesced to applying her whittling skills to the task. I bestowed upon her a second frozen banana and she got to work.
What a champ.
And…it actually worked!! That bad boy was SHARP!
Like, not “draw blood easily” sharp. But yeah, if claws looking like this ^ were to shoot towards me, i’d be at least mildly afraid. That’s not nothin’ — right? right?
(I’m so good at photoshop)
But at this point i had to admit to myself the thing i’d known all along. Sharpening solely the stem wasn’t actually @pangur-and-grim’s vision.
So i tried, i really tried to sharpen the entire outer part of the banana with a knife sharpener + knife! Maybe it’s because the frozen bananas had thawed too much at this point but. it didn’t go…all that great
Then it was time for my final attempt.
I peeled one of those half-thawed nanners and shaped its soft body (which was the consistency of melty ice cream) with a combination of the knife sharpener and my bare fingers into what i hoped would be a fine point — once it re-froze.
One of them i “sharpened” the tip of; the other i tried to kinda sharpen the side of? By making a very thin ridge all along it. Because if they’re going to be claws they shouldn’t just poke people; they need to slice
Anyway that was an hour ago so i just checked on them and…
tragically, they are not sharp.
BUT i flattened them a little thinner to see if that helps, and now i’ll be patient for once in my life and wait to check on them till morning. Maybe being fully frozen will help
So yeah! The good news is you CAN sharpen a banana stem and that’s gotta count for something. The bad news is that sharpening the actual body of the banana has proven much more challenging.
if i never reblog with an update, it’ll mean I failed, no sharp peeled bananas to present. If i do update….
Well. You’ll get a photo of a razor-sharp banana.
It’ll totally happen. Totally

Dylan Llewellyn as James Maguire in Derry Girls (2018—2022)
Having Sisko and Bashir be the ones to get stuck in the sanctuary district in Past Tense was such a good call. Julian's characteristic optimistic naivety (at least in the earlier seasons) makes him this weird kind of audience stand-in, but instead of literally representing the audience watching the show, it's like he's representing the view of an imaginary audience from a place where things that are normal or acceptable in our own society are shocking, and it's one of the things that makes the episode work as really biting social commentary. In Star Trek you often get a character who plays an audience pov who asks the kinds of questions the audience might have, especially as a way of explaining away technobabble. To have a character ask "Why isn't anyone helping this person with schizophrenia??" in the same way Riker asks Geordi what's up with the warp core is pretty uncomfortable to say the least.
Julian's constant outrage, disbelief at what he's seeing, and refusal to accept things as they are is also great. He never lets you forget how messed up this is, and I think it was a good opportunity to develop his character as well. It's one of the first really traumatic things that happens to him and the way he reacts to everything really shows it, along with the strength of his convictions and his stubbornness for doing what's right which he carries on right to the end of the series. His kindness also shines through when he helps the woman injured boy (against Sisko's objections) and the woman with diabetes in the processing centre.
Then there's Sisko, who tempers Bashir's outrage with (kind of paternal) pragmatism. He doesn't accept that things had to be that way and understands the wrongness of what he's seeing to its fullest extent, but unlike Julian, he knows what he can and can't do about it, and chooses to accept that there are some things he personally can't change but does everything he possibly can with the influence he has. This Includes taking a bunch of hostages at gun point (and it's actually crazy they had a Star Trek protagonist do that lol), which Julian is visually extremely uncomfortable about, and being prepared to give his life to ensure things get better. For me, he's the very image of a great Starfleet captain in these eps.
I have to also mention the obvious fact that both characters are people of colour who, despite being a decorated commander and a doctor, find themselves immediately written off as worthless by a white guard and discarded into a concentration camp. Meanwhile their white colleague ends up in a penthouse.

Can you sleep with earrings in?
I have before, but I find it really uncomfortable. I go from not feeling them in there at all, even if I was already lying down, to feeling like the back is stabbing me behind my ear. Friends who wear earrings say they rarely take them out at all, even to sleep.
