Thanks to the goddess of #vinyl Michelle @savvy_vinyl_records I now have the four main covers for @davidbowie #themanwhosoldtheworld The cartoon cover was the original one, with Bowie‘s given title #metrobolist , which had been changed at the last minute by Mercury records to “the man who sold the world.” The blank speech bubble originally had the words, “Roll up your sleeves and show us your arms,” but the label blanked it out. Bowie was originally pleased with the initial artwork work, but then became disaffected with it, so the next UK cover has him wearing what he called a “man’s dress,” again very provocative. US labels wouldn’t release it, so the next US variant has the high kicking #bowie⚡️ on stage. That crazy hand with wings is the initial #German cover. This album is probably Bowie’s most rock #album, leaning a little @ledzeppelin , because most of the work of mixing and arrangements were left to #mickronson and #tonyvisconti while Bowie was distracted by his new wife at the time, #angelabarnett I’ve been delayed in my Bowie listen-through by a last minute writing assignment, but I should get back to it by the new year. #vinylcollection #vinylcommunity #vinylrecords #vinylcollector #vinyljunkie #vinyljunkies #music #rock #rocknroll #rockandroll #rockmusic #rockandromanticism #davidbowieandromanticism (at Vinyl Request Records) https://www.instagram.com/p/CJZDIzXs8fR/?igshid=178t1toogvidg
