On Tuesday, I lost a good friend. It was so unexpected & sudden.

I am fine. Her family is fine. It’ll take some time to heal.

I'm an atheist. I don't believe in any deities. I don't believe in afterlife. No heaven, no hell. I don't know what happens to our "souls" or conscience after we die. What makes us... Us.        

I like to think that our "souls" go someplace. That maybe we go back into the universe. Maybe our "souls" get recycled into other things, be it wolves or trees. Maybe we go back into our cells. I like to think that. I don't believe it. 

It's comforting, so comforting, to think that the person you know is still out there somewhere after they pass. That they could be following you, they're watching you, hanging out with their loved ones too.           

It's comforting. It helps deal with loss. I don't believe it's true. & I don't think it's... False. I just don't know, really. Maybe dreams connect us. I don't know. The brain is such a confusing thing. It's confusing how we're confused at our own bodies.         

I hope that maybe... She did find her husband. Somewhere. I hope she's out there with all those cats she once took care of.

Comfort in the face of disbelief may be what pulls us together. The universe doesn't care if you're a celebrity or an ant. It treats death the same to all living things. Maybe one day we'll find the answer. Until then. Just... Know that I'll miss you.
