The front of a Queen Metroid I sprited in PICO-8. Largely inspired by its appearance in Another Metroid II Remake, but with details taken from the original Metroid II. Bonus Samus Returns-colored Queen included.

METROIDS. Parasitic Organisms man-made in a joint effort between the Echidna and Chozo to rid the planet SR388 of the X-Parasite as their single-minded desire to replicate and consume everything was deemed too horrific of a threat to leave unchecked. Of course, the metroids would become a problem themselves, as not only would they become dangerous when there weren’t any Thoha Chozo around to control them, but plenty of people would see them far more useful as a deadly weapon, especially the Space Pirates. The job to rid the galaxy of these creatures turned weapon would fall onto Rouge’s shoulders, save the one infant metroid who hatched before her eyes after her adventure on SR388...

The metroids take their designs from a mix of the original source material metroids and the different stages of Chaos; Chaos is still a separate thing, but served as one of the inspirations for the Echidna and Chozo when creating them. To be specific, the Larval Metroids and the "Super" Metroid take inspiration from Chaos 0 (though the "Super" one has Chaos 6's eyes). Alpha and Gamma have elements of Chaos 2. The Zeta and Omega metroids have elements of Chaos 6. And the Metroid Queen is modeled more closely off of the Sonic Generations design for Perfect Chaos, with elements from Chaos 6 as well! Power wise, they're rather similar to the Source Material. They drain energy and consume X-Parasites. The stronger ones do have limited amounts of Hydrokinesis as well to mirror the original Chaos, but none of them have anywhere near as much control over water in comparison, aside from maybe the Queen. A larval metroid at most miiiight be able to slap you with its own water tentacle, but nothing more.
