A study in black and white
Have you ever noticed that every time it comes to Loki he sees his world in black and white only? Once he has experienced his father does not love him, he considers no one to love him anymore. When he finds out about Odin not being his real father, he suddenly has no family at all. Loki thinks he has a right to be king as much as Thor has. There is no possible version for him to share or even alternate ruling. It does not occur to him talking with Thor about who would be a better and wiser king. In his eyes Thor is a fool, as Loki sees himself as astute.
I would say, he thinks of people getting together in halves like black and white. Odin is the cold father, ruler, caring about Thor, while Frigga is the warm mother, caressing, caring about Loki. Odin teaches physical powers, Frigga teaches mental powers.
This applies for Thor and Loki too. While Thor is the middle of his friends, Loki always stands on the outside. Thor is the sun, Loki the shadow. Whenever Thor is talking in a loud voice, Loki is responding calmly. Still, he is referring to Thor as his “brother”.
Loki does not change his mind either. He may alter his principles if necessary rather to get the best out of a situation than trying to accept anything else. Therefore he has learnt to betray and hurt everyone around him. As a result no one trusts him anymore. He can live with it, since there is NO ONE who trusts him.
Loki has lost his sense for balance; he cannot see the grey in the world. Or, at least, does not want to see it any longer. For him it is easier to accept one truth, one side of a medal, without asking about the other. There will be consequences for him in any way. So why should he think about alternatives?
Now, as we have seen him ascending the throne of Asgard (his ultimate goal), there is only one logical assumption left: he will not capitulate. This means, if he cannot be forced off the throne – not to speak about talking him out of being king – Loki has to die.
I don't get over how aesthetic this movie is.
One day...
tumblr will shut down. All around the world people will creep out of their dark holes. No electricity. No internet. No hope. In this moment a long forgotten line will pop up in your mind: "In a hole in the ground there lived a Hobbit." You will realize you are a Hobbit. You have spent your whole life in a hole. Living the way you felt comfortable with. No adventures. No threats. No dangers. This will be the second you will pack your stuff and decide to go on a journey. To find friends. To find reason. To find life.
