sometimes I think about how absolutely livid squirtle would feel once grovyle and dusknoir spill the beans about how she has to sacrifice her existence at the end regardless. even worse is that without a partner to mourn her, it's possible dialga wouldn't bring her back (though I doubt she'd go through with it anyway)
funnily enough, i had a whole AU idea about this!
see, squirtle CAN'T make it to the end of the game without a partner. she's stuck at the beginning until the player restarts and gives her a partner.
so, IF the player decided to cave in and do that just to see the end of the game, they'd be met with a "relatively" normal game, albeit maybe squirtle talking over her partner sometimes...
except for near the ending, where dusknoir spills the tea that squirtle will disappear if she changes the future.
squirtle doesn't respond well, but doesn't get the chance to refute it before grovyle gives the time gears to the partner and sacrifices himself to take dusknoir back to the future.
so, squirtle and her partner board the rainbow stoneship up to temporal tower in silence, when squirtle gets a sinister idea...
she pushes her partner off the stoneship, sending them to plummet to their death, along with all the time gears.
she has a nasty habit of killing her "partners", after all!
