253 Naylor TF1700 (1987) D 411 HYG by Robert Knight Via Flickr: Naylor TF 1700 (1985-85) Engine 1700cc S4 BMC O Series Production 100 approx NAYLOR ALBUM www.flickr.com/photos/45676495@N05/albums/72157648823123678/ As the name implies the TF1700 was a two seater sportscar, strongly resembling the MG TF Midget of 1953 and 1954. it was the brainchild of Alistair Naylor and was developed together with Alan Staniforth the two-seater steel roadster bodywork was an unusually faithful replica of the celebrated MG TF and came fully built and very well equipped with Connolly leather interior and real spoked wheels., but at £ 13,950 in 1985 was very expensive against more powerful and more established competition. Like the Morgan, the Naylor has a body constructed from metal panels attached to a wooden body-frame constructed from ash wood on a steel chassis. Most of the car's mechanicals came straight from the Morris Marina/Ital, including the 1.7 litre SOHC O-series engine with 77 hp (57 kW) and the four-speed manual transmission. The car received excellent reviews and Margaret Thatcher was even photographed in one, in a publicity shoot outside 10 Downing Street, part of an effort to inspire small British manufacturers The Naylor was a well made desirable car and is today a fantastic classic, but production was doomed from the start due to its price. According to the Daily Mail Motor Review magazine, the Naylor list price in 1986 was £12,950. That compares to £12,498 for the base model Morgan Plus 8 and £11,963 for the top model Panther Kallista. An NG TF, an MGB based TF kit car could be yours for a mere £1,495.
