Famous Last Words || Chapter 1 || Motive Part II

Monobear clears his throat, his red eye gleaming. With all the not-so-subtle hints he’s dropping about death and dying, you begin to suspect these monologues won’t deliver positive messages.

“Here we go! First a dramatic pause for effect… And action!”

“‘I’m so glad that you were able to finally-- oops! I almost read a spoiler, upupupu! I’ll just skip ahead.”

Monobear clears his throat, and starts reading again. His voice is gravelly, as if mimicking an old man.

“‘You were such a wonderful student, and I’m so proud of you for getting so far, I never could have imagined that under my guidance, you would end up at Hope’s Peak… You truly deserve to be attending school there. Is that all I have to--’” 

Monobear makes an alarmingly realistic gunshot sound, and then stops reading.

“Oh, that one’s for Higashiyama Nori, by the way! I sure hope your mentor is okay, Higashiyama.”

“And next up we have Nagata Nariaki’s friendo!”

He grins.

“‘Nariaki… it’s me, Kotoka. I don’t know what they want with me, but I’m--’” 

Monobear makes a stabbing sound and then screams. His voice is now more similar to that of a teenager.

“‘Aaaaaaahhhhhh!’”

He starts to wheeze and gasp desperately for air.

“‘What d-do you want from me?! I’m, I… Nariaki, you were s-such a good friend, and I was always so happy around you, that I wish I could have just told you that--’”

More stabbing sounds. How is he doing that?

“‘N-No… stop! I’m-- I’m doing what you want! I don’t want to die! P-please… s-somebody…’” 

He makes one final stabbing noise, before looking up looks up from his index card.

“And that’s all! Too bad! He probably died before he could say anything else to you, Nagata! Ahahahaha! How despairing!”

Monobear laughs some more, and then begins reading another one of the dreaded monologues.

“This last one goes out to Ikeda Natsuko from her friend, Mimizu! He sure was excited to hear about you again!”

“‘N… N-Natsu-chan, I missed you so much… waaah!’”

Monobear sobs for a second, before he starts to make the sound of a revving chainsaw. He screams again.

“‘Aaaaahhhh--! N-No, I’m s-sorry… urk! I’m sorry that I-I never k-kept in touch… it’s not your fault… it wasn’t your fault! I m-miss y--’”

More chainsaw sounds.

“‘Aaaaahhhhh… aaaah… nononono, stop! H-Help meeeeeeeee, please! Natsu-chan, I’m going to die, I’m going to die, I’m going to die, I’m going--’”

He stops reading and looks up, a malicious grin on his face. If one thing’s for certain, Monobear is quite the good actor.

“Ahahahaha! Ooh, awkward! What a cliffhanger. Upupupupu, aren’t you all worried if your loved ones are okay now? Well, you have every right to be! But the only way you’ll find out what happened to them is if you leave the mansion!”

Monologues || Chapter 1 || Motive Part I

A couple of days have passed and not much has changed. Other than the occasional sightings of Monobear around the mansion, everything seems eerily normal. Oh, except for the fact that there’s no way out. That and there’s been no signs of rescue.

One morning Monobear’s voice echoes throughout the mansion. Have the speakers gotten louder or is it just your imagination?

“Ahem, all club members report to the ground floor sitting room immediately! No ifs, ands, bears, or buts. Anyone who stops to smell the roses will be punished, upupupu! So yeah, hurry up.”

Nobody seems to want to find out what the bear means by ‘punishment,’ because you all arrive in a timely manner. Monobear is already on the platform, holding a bunch of index cards in his paws.

“Hello, students! You got here too fast -- I was looking forward to annihilating one of you. How beary unfortunate. But speaking of annihilating…”

“How come you bastards haven’t killed each other yet?! Everyone murdered just fine in those Battle Royale movies, so why not here? Do you really need a dumb motive?”

He holds up the index cards, waving them around. Though the writing is sloppy, you can make out people’s names on the back of each card.

“I’m sure you’re wondering what these notecards are for! They’re your motive! On each one are some transcribed last words -- upupupu, I mean monologues that your friends and families wrote just for you.”

“But just for fun, I’m gonna read them out to all of you bastards! Upupupu, it’s not like privacy isn’t a big deal these days anyway. But enough about that! Let’s get to reading these dying messages-- ahem, theater passages, shall we?”

He flips through the cards, humming cheerily as he does so. Finally he giggles.

“This one works! Upupupu...”

Bearing It || Chapter 1 Part I

Monobear has left the sitting room, leaving you and the others behind. He’s also left you all with some grim news -- you won’t be getting out of here anytime soon. But is there any way this murder thing is real?

No matter your stance on what the bear said, you figure you ought to come up with a plan. It’s unclear whether this is a kidnapping or prank or something else entirely. It’s also unclear if the bear means business.

Until you and the others come up with something that’ll get you out of here, how about passing the time somehow?

The Game is Afoot || Prologue Part IV

Murder mystery? Monobear seems excited by the group’s confusion.

“Yep, that’s right. We’re going to put on a play called Murder Game Club’s Life of Mutual Killing! Or, as I like to call it, MGCLOMK.”

That doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue.

“You’re going to be here for the rest of your lives performing this! In this play, you’ll all take on the roles of yourselves. Think of it as one of those self-inserts that are so popular online these days. And as yourselves, you’re going to murder another character. To spell that out for you dumbasses, you’re going to be murdering another student here.”

“Upupupu! And if you don’t want to? Well, too bad! Getting away with murder is the only way you’ll be able to escape this mansion and live happily ever after in the real world. Otherwise you’ll be here with me forever. It’ll be like a constant slumber party, except with one hundred percent more despair. Or should I say desbear?”

“But before you get a-killing, I have some rules to go over!”

He raises a paw.

“Ahem, rule one! The students -- that’s you guys -- will live a communal lifestyle with no time limit inside of the mansion.”

He holds up his other paw.

“Rule two! If you meet the graduation requirements by successfully killing another student, you may ‘graduate’ and leave the mansion unscathed.”

He lowers his arms.

“There are other rules, but those are the most important ones! Plus I only have two paws to count on. Unfortunate, I know. Check your IDs for all the other stuff. There’s a new section for them and everything. If you break them, it’s your fault! Don’t use that ‘I suddenly can’t read’ excuse either. It’s not even that funny!”

Monobear hops off the stage and waddles towards the door. He reaches up for the handle, only to stop. You and everyone else watch as he turns around, a ticked off expression now on his face.

“You bastards’ ugliness almost made me forget another important detail. There’s two new sections on your IDs along with the rules! They’re for goals and secrets. Upupupu, I’m sure your pea brains are trying to figure out what those are for, so let me explain!”

“You’ve each been given three goals you need to meet in order to leave! You all have one in common, which I’m not going to name. It’s pretty easy to figure out, even for dumb kids like you. The other two are completely random! Anything from balancing a spoon on your nose to using a candlestick as your murder weapon. If you don’t meet all three of these goals, you won’t be able to leave. Upupupu, that’d suck!”

“You’ve also been assigned three secrets you need to keep hidden -- or else you can’t leave! We wouldn’t want to make things too easy, right?”

“One secret is about you, which you should keep to yourself even if it’s something dumb like, ‘you hate broccoli.’ Another secret is about somebody else here, which is great because who doesn’t like having dirt on others? An example of this is ‘Ikeda-san is a fan of My Little Pony!’ And there’s a third secret about this situation. But I won’t give you an example, because that’d be spoilers!”

“So keep these to yourself, okay? If you tell anybody, you’ll be unable to leave the mansion. And I’d prefur you leave sooner rather than later, since I’m already getting sick of being in the same room with you all.”

He reaches up on his tiptoes and turns the doorknob. The doors swing open and he turns to deliver one last bit of information.

“Just spin in a circle and chant ‘Monobear!’ three times if you want to summon me. I’m happy to handle any questions you have, just like any club supervisor should! So get murdering, idiots! I’ll be watching, upupupu!”

Much Ado About Bears || Prologue Part III

The black and white stuffed animal -- who apparently goes by Monobear -- waits for his announcement to sink in. Didn’t you already have a club supervisor? And what’s this about death?

Murmurs of confusion ripple throughout the room. Monobear waits for everyone to settle down, a gleeful look on his face.

“That’s right. You idiots will be living and dying here from now til the unforeseeable future. Upupupu, isn’t that super exciting? How about Super High School Level exciting?”

The general consensus is this is far from “Super High School Level” exciting.

“Hey, show some enthusiasm! I mentioned dying! You should be bombarding me with questions about what the hell I mean.”

“Sniff sniff… kids these days. So jaded...”

He shakes his head, adopting a serious look. Well, as serious a look a plush bear can have.

“Anyway you dolts, it’s time for some exposition. Because you’re about to be assigned some roles in a real life murder mystery, whether you like it or not! Upupupu!”

Enter: Monobear || Prologue Part II

You’ve done your best to survey the area and assess the situation at hand, whether that be through investigating or goofing off with the other club members. Regardless of what you’ve been up to, you’re eventually interrupted by the screeching of the speakers (which appear to be in every room).

“Alright, bastards!” a familiar voice says. It’s the same scathingly cute one from earlier. “Time to get a move on back to the sitting room. And do your best to move your tails, because anybody late will be punished, upupupu!”

You and the other kids trickle back into the sitting room. Everything seems to be the same as before. As soon as the last person enters, the doors slam shut on their own. A moment later, the sound of gears turning echoes throughout the room.

Right before your eyes, the platform hosting the grand piano descends into the ground. There’s a series of loud thuds, accompanied by some cursing in a high-pitched voice. This goes on for nearly a minute before the gears begin moving yet again. When the platform comes back into view, the piano is gone. It’s been replaced by… a stuffed bear?!

“Greetings, students!”

The voice coming from the bear is the same one you heard just a couple minutes ago. At least this explains all the bear puns. Before anyone can ask what’s going on, the bear speaks up again.

“I’m Club Supervisor Monobear and I’ll be overseeing your lives and deaths from now on!”

Unfamiliar Scenery || Prologue Part I

You awake with a start, remembering today is the day of the Murder Game Club’s performance. And since there was no alarm that jarred you awake, you realize you’re late! Yet when you get up -- whenever you get up -- you realize you have no clue where you are.

You’re currently on a plush couch in a strange room. Yet the fancy furniture only distracts you for a second, because you soon notice there are other people in this room. People you recognize, at that! Yes, it looks like the entire Murder Game Club is here in this room.

Everybody else is waking up. No matter how hard you try, you can’t remember how you ended up here. Your mind feels foggy and the last thing you remember is preparing for the play. Based on everybody else’s confusion, you all seem to be in the same boat.

Once everybody is awake and thoroughly confused, a loud chiming sound rings out through old-fashioned speakers you hadn’t noticed before. For a minute there’s only static, then a cutesy, almost childish voice echoes throughout the room.

“Welcome to the mansion, club members!” the voice says. “I’m sure you’re all confused, upupupu! Well get beary ready to be stoked, because you’re about to receive some answers! ...Well, not yet, of course.”

The speaker giggles again -- upupupu. It’s an odd laugh and an undeniably creepy one.

“First you bastards gotta look around the mansion, because it’s your new home indefinitely! I’ll be calling you back later for some surprises. I hope everyone enjoys their last moments of hope, because soon despair will take the reins! Ooh, I’m so excited to give out-- oops, spoilers! You’ll see what I’m talking about soon enough.

“Ahem, and make sure you keep your IDs on you. You can find them on the tables in front of you. They’ll be handy -- well, pawdy in my case -- later on!”

And with that, the speakers shut off. Surely you have questions, but if the voice is anything to go by, you won’t receive any information until after you explore the mansion. And hey, maybe one of you knows what’s going on!

Those Innocent Days || Pregame

They say high school is supposed to be the best time of your life. And since you attend Hope’s Peak Academy, a prestigious school for the most talented teenagers in the nation, you may feel like the saying rings true. After all, you’re bound to make great memories at a school like this!

One of these memories you’re sure you’ll remember? Being in the Murder Game Club. This murder mystery theater organization consists of an eclectic group of students, whose talents range from sports to sciences. For better or worse, you spend a lot of time in Room 104-D.

Currently everyone is in the process of setting up for the school’s club fair. The setting and premise everyone has agreed upon (which is no little feat for this group) is a mansion where a group of acquaintances are gathered to play a deadly game.

Now’s the time to memorize your lines, paint the set, write the script, and -- most importantly -- make lots of memories! Because at the end of the day, memories will be all we have left.

So make the best of your time at school!
