synopsis: you don’t know how to approach the handsome stranger on the other side of the library
——
the steady sound of flipping pages echoed from the other side of the library as you desperately tried to finish your homework
you found yourself where you found yourself most nights, the library
it was more peaceful then the coffee shop, but less lonley than your apartment. so it was a good place to settle
usually you were accompanied by a few other students, but tonight it was empty, except for one person
he was sitting awkwardly on a chair, papers and books surrounding him. cups and cups of coffee from the cart outside stacked next to him
dressed in a blazer cardigan duo of warm tones, curls surrounded his face
you caught yourself staring, on more than one occasion. he was always there, awkwardly sitting and speedily reading
you examined the books on his desk,
war and peace by leo tolstoy
evil never rests by david rossi
something wicked this way comes by ray bradbury
the principles of quantum mechanics by p.a.m. dirac
trying to piece together what kind of person he is based on his book selection
“lover of the classics and halloween? as well as a crime junkie/physics nerd?”
it made absolutely no sense, but it was safe to say you were intrigued
intrigued by his book selection, by the alarming rate in which he read, by the little curl that fell in front of his face
intrigued by the mystery behind the stranger sitting at the table parallel from you
you kept staring, and it was getting painfully obvious at this point, so much so that he made eye contact with you and smiled
he smiled at you
you damn near died, quickly flashing a smile and retreating into your sweatshirt to internally scream
thinking about his perfect smile and how it melted your heart, about how he pushed the hair out of his face
you tried to shake it off and get started on your work again, typing quickly and grumbling internal notes to yourself
another half hour had passed and both of you still in the same position as you had been, you decided to look up from your laptop to admire your favorite library stranger
when you brought your eye line up, he was staring at you
a little shocked at first you smile at him, seemingly equal treatment
he then again smiles at you and retreats into the book that he was scanning
you distractedly tried to type some more, but your mind over taken with thoughts
he was looking at me?
why?
oh my is there something in my teeth??
your panicked and irrational thoughts were interrupted by a ding on your phone
your roommate/best friend
“hey, how’s the studying going?”
“good, there’s this really really cute guy sitting across from me”
“spicy”
“barely, we’ve just been mutually staring at eachother for an hour”
“sheesh girl, ask him out!”
“WHAT”
“hey, getting out of your comfort zone is good sometimes you know”
“my comfort zone is there for a reason it’s COMFORTABLE”
“it’s not life or death y/n, ask him to coffee!”
“god no”
“well i’m going to head out to see my family, you better do something”
“mhmmmmm”
you sent the last text and set your phone down
maybe that wasn’t such a bad idea
you knew you did not posses the confidence to go up and talk to him, so you ripped a page from your note book
you scribbled down
“can’t help but notice your david rossi book, which one is your favorite?
-stranger from the south end of the library :) “
you waited until he left to get another cup of coffee, you got up quickly and placed it on top of his book
while you were there you noticed that he was grading papers, he was a professor
he looked much too young to have a doctorate, but you set that aside and retreated to your desk
he came back, your heart was pounding out of your chest and he looked at the note
your heart rate calmed when your saw his smile while reading it, he scribbled down a response and walked over to your desk and dropped it next to your books
he was so tall, he smelt so nice, he radiated the best possible energy
“eyes of a predator, david rossi is actually my colleague. i work with him at the bau. what’s your favorite one of his works?
-stranger form the north end of the library”
an fbi agent? what? you thought he was a profesor?
“me? oh well understanding evil is a personal favorite. and fbi agent? that’s crazy, here i was thinking you were a student
- stranger for the south end of the library”
again you got up and placed it on the desk
“understanding evil is also very good, dave is a talented writer at that. and yes i get that a lot, my education was accelerated so i was able to accomplish a lot while i was still very young, i’m actually a profesor and an fbi agent. not to boast, just giving context
- stranger from the north end of the library”
“wow, that quite impressive doctor (i’m not sure of your name). what do you teach?
-stranger from the south end of the library”
“criminology, but i also teach some chemistry classes here and there. what are you studying?
-(doctor) spencer reid (aka stranger from north end of the library)”
“chemistry actually, i hope to see you some day in class. crime and science? you do it all don’t you dr. reid
-y/n l/n (aka stranger from south end of the library)”
this note system went on for a while, you scribbled on a new sheet of paper
“would you like to go out with me sometime ?
☐yes! (if so please write your number here ________)
☐no (but very very nicely)”
you got nervous just looking at it, you waited until he left to the bathroom to drop the note
a couple minutes later he returned, spotting the note
his face was hidden from your view and it was impossible to gage his response
he walked over and dropped the note with a smile
“would you like to go out with me sometime?
☒yes! (if so write your number here 628-2839-6278)
 ☐no (but very very nicely)
- it would be a pleasure! i could use another cup of coffee if you wanted to come with me perhaps? have a vocal conversation?
- dr reid”
he walked over and dropped the not, instead of walking away like usual he waited there until you read it
you looked up at him and nodded, stood up and made eye contact
