I think MHA characters who have a helmet as a part of their costume have a trend of losing them during a fight. Probably because Horikoshi wants to show their facial expressions. Thus, Uraraka loses her helmet.
“You... sure talk a lot...” says Deku, who is also known for endless mutterings. It seems the Shiketsu girl’s disappearing trick is a combination of her quirk and “technique” as she calls it. It doesn’t make sense that you can just disappear literally right in front of someone without some quirk use. I say she uses her shapeshifting power to look like objects in the background, and distracts her opponents for a second when she transforms. Kind of like a magic trick.
By the way she’s kind of creepy with all this “I want to know you.” Maybe it’s a thing for shapeshifters? Wanting to know more about people they meet, I mean.
Anyway, it’s nice how Midoriya knows Uraraka well enough to recognize the fake one. It is indeed strange that Uraraka would have to be saved from a falling accident of all things. He went and saved her anyway, which is very Midoriya.
I’m very glad that Midoriya seems to take his own safety seriously. Well, he’s talking about being safe so that he won’t be disabled for more saving rather than being safe for himself, but that’s a step.
Ch 106: Class 1-A
2nd popularity poll is here! I wish I could vote for this thing too. I subscribe to Jump Plus for the electronic chapters, but you can vote only with paper copies and you need to send a postcard to Japan... sigh. Anyway, fun intro, nice color spread.
Mera is so tired that he literally says “Quick! Be done!” at the end of his announcement. Todoroki becomes the first 1-A student to pass, and it looks like he’s been trying to use his both sides at the same time. From what’s depicted it looks like he used mostly ice to capture other people (makes sense since it’s more suited for this kind of exam than fire), so I wonder what’s the advantage of simultaneous use? Maybe he’s trying to get rid of the cold slowing him down problem. So far, he’s been using ice, then using fire to heat himself up again. So maybe he’s trying to do the simultaneous fire to remove the need of “recharging period”?
The part with Todoroki and Yoarashi was a bit unexpected. From Yoarashi’s introduction, I thought that Todoroki recognized Yoarashi. But this chapter he seems like he doesn’t remember him...? So maybe during Yoarashi’s introduction Todo was merely reacting to the fact that a Shiketsu student just joined their Plus Ultra huddle? And damn Yoarashi doesn’t like Todoroki at all. Could it be that Todoroki during the recommended exam pissed him off because he wasn’t fighting at his full strength, like how Todo pissed off Deku? Or it could be something about Endeavor. Seeing how Yoarashi loves “hot” heroes and how he was about to talk about his favorite one, he might be a fan of Endeavor...? We still don’t know what his deal is exactly, but it’s kinda funny how Todoroki doesn’t have a clue, in a true Todoroki fashion.
Shiketsu girl is getting even weirder with the nakedness and scratching, but she asks some good questions. Yeah Deku, where do you draw the line? I’ve seen some people suspect that she is actually Toga, but I don’t think that’s her. Or, it’s more like I don’t want her to be Toga. First, even though she’s weird, she acts too coherently to be Toga. Toga’s more crazy than this. Also I think this girl is pretty interesting so I want her to be her own character. Anyway, what’s up with the Shiketsu girl not wearing her targets? I saw somebody’s speculation that the naked thing might not be her actual body, rather her transformable clone. So her quirk would be similar to Ectoplasm’s, with additional shapeshifting capability.
Midoriya-Uraraka-Sero is a new combination. It’s nice that Uraraka is believing in Deku based on what he’s done so far, not because she just feels like it.
Aaaand side Kacchan. Kaminari is being cute. Small-eyes turned Kirishima into a meatball. What the hell is his quirk. He’s so stuck up. Why are all Shiketsu students so weird. What’s his problem with UA 1-A anyway? I can understand someone not liking Bakugou for his attitude, but what did 1-A do wrong? Get attacked by villains all the time? Or is this about the unofficial Bakugou rescue mission by the 5 students of 1-A? Not stopping that one is the only “wrong” by 1-A as a class I can remember. Was that made public?
Anyway I’m pretty sure we’ll get our Kirishima back sooner or later. That’s a heroics department student’s quirk used during an exam. There’s no way he would be using that on others so nonchalantly if that was not reversible. Considering Kirishima’s quirk, I bet Kirishima tried to defend the weird finger attack instead of dodging... too bad the attack doesn’t seem to be a physical one. The blob is kinda starting to look cute.
I’ve thought this since his kidnapping by VA: Kacchan is pretty good at insulting others. Kacchan uses polite speech to address the Small-eyes and even calls him senpai but the way he uses Katakana in her speech shows that he’s definitely not being polite.
