The actor Kim Jun Han did such an amazing job in that moment where he sees Ik Jun’s face after hearing Ik Jun confess. He wasn’t surprised, but he wasn’t happy, and he tries to smile because everyone else is giggling, but he can’t smile because he knows the history Ik Jun and Song Hwa have is deeper than what he has with her. In that second or two he goes through quite a few emotions and it’s so sad to see.
This situation isn’t similar to the other dramas where two guys are fighting for the girl because here, both Chi Hong and Ik Jun are fond of each other. Ik Jun likes Chi Hong because he’s Ik Sun’s best friend and just a good guy in general. Chi Hong admires Ik Jun as a sunbae and as a person. So, this scene is both feeling each other out. Chi Hong goes to lengths that he normally wouldn’t go to, to hear Ik Jun confirm once and for all. Ik Jun knows Chi Hong likes Song Hwa and is interested because he knows hes doing all this because of his feelings. Both men are good men and they genuinely care for Song Hwa. They both came out of that situation feeling bad because Chi Hong thinks he doesn’t have a chance between two people who are clearly in tune with the other and care for one another. Ik Jun feels bad because he thinks history is repeating itself where his feelings have to be sidelined because another man, a good man that he approves of, like Song Hwa.
It’s interesting that we always see their perspectives and never Song Hwa’s. I am still holding onto a little bit of hope for Chi Hong and Song Hwa, but most likely face is probably like Chi Hong’s in this scene because we are aware of the inevitable.
Regardless, this drama is amazing. Probably one of the best I’ve ever seen and the actors are brilliant. I hope Kim Jun Han gets a lead role soon where I can see him woo and get the girl next time. Can’t believe we only have one episode left.
