step by step.

when i look myself in the eye and say you made it another day i will finally see that  little grey flower bloom. ( @miajinseo ) 

there are many ways that an important lesson can be taught. daesu is aware, more than many people seem to think he is, that his method of handling things is weird. he knows he’s seen as odd and maybe that isn’t something he should own but what does it matter in this society? act normal, in this economy? besides, its not as if he doesn’t hold respect of some people and really he thinks thats all that matters. his eyes land on the teen in front of him who he’s been sparring with for the better half of two hours. his blade sings in his hand as he swings it up, tabs it against his sheath and slowly puts it away. 

“feeling tired yet, jinseo?” he questioned, hands landing on his hips as he take in a deeper breath and lets it out through his nose as steadily as he can. his body burning from the ache of training that is ever so familiar to him. almost comforting at this point. 

he wonders why this crop of youths are so aggressive with each other. his mind brings forth the issues with suhwan and sebs youngest's. and now here he is debating on the best way to deal with issues with jinseo and again, doyun. maybe he needs to talk to seb. the constant fighting between the two agents is not something that can keep up. in house issues go completely against meia’s whole teamwork thing. 

nevermind the fact daesu firmly believes there needs to be trust with those in the agency. in this time of constant death and war where today and everyday could be your last is it not better to foster positive relationships where you can get them? maybe thats just him. but he is still going to do what he can. 

sighing, daesu dropped his shoulders from the tense position he had been holding, lowering his guard if only a little. “i think its time we had a talk, kid. come on, lets take a seat. have some water, yeah?” he gestures to the edge of the training mat, grabbing two waters and tossing one to the younger.

it’s a wonder how dojoon even got himself into this mess, really—actually, he doesn’t know what to call his current predicament. everything happened in a blur, leaving him absolutely clueless. instead of being within the comforts of the music studio in his university, he’s here. he doesn’t know where here is.

the last thing he truly remembers is the sight of a gorgeous painting, one that he had been admiring on his way back home. if dojoon knew this was going to happen, then he would have just gone straight home! now he’s here, in a foreign place he only vaguely recognises, with nothing but his bag filled with useless junk and his trustee guitar strapped to his back.

oh, right. and he’s being stared at by a very pretty guy ( @miajinseo )... who's wearing traditional clothing. in this day and age? ( unless dojoon is the one who's out of place ).

“so...” he finally starts speaking after a long while of staring. “you’re... you’re a prince?” dojoon asks, not at all hiding his disbelief. “i mean you certainly look the part. you seem... graceful. and beautiful. and stuff.” he can feel a glare piercing the back of his neck—is that the prince’s bodyguard?

is any of this even real?

after being dragged here by the pair ( with a sword near his neck at that, the scariest experience of his life ), dojoon has nothing but questions. whether they’ll be answered though, remains to be seen. at least he’s not being forced to the ground anymore. they’re in a house—or something close to that.

feeling a little on edge, dojoon leans in a little closer so he can whisper to the supposed prince. “can you... tell him to step out for a bit? it’s like, a little scary with him here. you seem a lot more reasonable.” okay, that got him another, much stronger glare.

seb is almost always busy. it's always something. meetings with maylin and the other senior agents. training his team. helping new agents that aren't on his team settle in. keeping up with his own training. getting sent on a wild goose hunt by jinx for her own amusement. you name it. as a senior agent, he's almost always needed.

he likes it that way, though. when everything quiets, and his world is still, his thoughts still run through his mind too quickly. he never really rests. it's task after task, and then he gets back to his apartment and fights off his own demons until he finally manages to fall asleep or gives up and runs laps around the track or spends some time at meia's shooting range.

tonight, he thinks he's tired enough to get back and fall asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow. the mission he and team raven were sent on today wasn't particularly grueling, but he got back to jinx enlisting his help training one of their newest baby agents despite them not being on his team, and there was an ordeal in the medbay and-- he's tired. maybe he'll actually sleep well tonight. that would be nice.

of course, seb cannot catch a break, because when he opens the door and steps into his apartment, he is not alone. no, it's not really that bad, it's just...jinseo, and what appears to be just about every snack in his apartment laid out on the table and picked through, presumably by the aforementioned junior agent. either that or he has an exceptionally talented rat infestation.

"i guess you were hungry...?" he comments, confusion evident in his voice. he'll blame the exhaustion.

of course, most of his team members past and present know how to get into his apartment, and seb made a point of making sure they knew they were always welcome. he wanted them to have a place where they felt safe, if their own living arrangements weren't cutting it for whatever reason that day. in some ways, he's glad to see jinseo here-- he misses him and jina now that he doesn't see them on his team every day anymore --but in other ways...god, there's going to be a lot to clean up.

still astray.

life is a series of unpredictable circumstances.

dojoon wouldn't brag about it, but he believes he had gone through several of those throughout his life. one, when he realises that the cold lifeless bodies of his parents can no longer hold him and his brother in a reassuring embrace. two, when a stranger came into his life and reached a hand out to his shaking one. three, when the only shelter he has known burned down to ashes before his very eyes. and now this.

agents come in and out, assessing his very existence—scribbles on paper, everchanging questions, tests that he knows he's on the verge of failing. he sat there, eyes facing forward, braving each step. he's determined to see it through, even when every fibre of his being wants nothing more than to crawl underground and let the earth take his body; a body that no longer belongs to him.

the scars across his chest and the inky markings that stretch along his skin become reminders, to everyone and himself, that he's no longer what he used to be. even as he's breathing air like the rest of the world, even though his heart beats the same tune, even if he adorns the same uniform that he wears everyday—he isn't one of them. dojoon can sense the stares of judgement, the distrust that hangs up in the air and dissolves into the atmosphere, and he can't blame them.

a demon agent is different to any other type of agent. dojoon is untrustworthy, there's no telling when he'll turn against the agency and wreck havoc despite his best efforts. he recalls the overwhelming energy surging inside him, the monster he was morphing into, a vessel of darkness that cannot be controlled. if that is what the future has in store for him, then he'll take all the hatred in the present, consume everything and bury it with him in his grave.

at the end of the day, this is his choice. it's a choice he will live it, a choice he will die with. he'll never regret saving doyun that day. he won't regret coming back to see doyun alive.

but if there is anything that he regrets, then—

dojoon turns a corner and finds himself unprepared for what stands before him. the treated bruises all over his body, the glaring wound decorated with black blemishes on his chest hidden only by translucent sheets of white and an untucked shirt—suddenly, it's like they're screaming in unison. dojoon sees dusty blonde hair framing soft features he'd compliment any day, twisted by a blazing glare he can't look away from directed right at him. when he's used to shy smiles and a light twinkle that dojoon would fool himself into thinking was reserved only for him. now, it's just this.

“ah,” it slips out of his lips before he can zip himself shut and walk away. dojoon smiles, because maybe one of them has to. and he's the one who'll do it because he might not be able to, not with jinseo, not after this, not anymore. “it's been a while,” he says, like there are hands around his neck forcing these empty words out.

there's so much he wants to say. too many. but jinseo won't listen now, he thinks.

You caught a fellow agent sneaking around areas they shouldn’t be in. This agent is a long time friend of yours and they haven’t done anything suspicious before this. Jinx has always said to report something like this though. What do you do? Be honest.

he’s quiet as he speaks through the halls of the MEIA building, quiet as a mouse. he knows he’s probably not supposed to be here, even if he’s technically authorized to do so. it’s late, it’s past any hours that there should be people here and by all means? he should be alone.

so when he hears quiet footsteps from down the hall, he quickly makes himself scarce. it’s not hard when he knows the area like the back of his hand, having looked around whenever he was here on official business to be able to scope it out like this. it came in handy for times like this, though it’s not like he ever planned to get caught or anything. just in case like his mom always said, and he stuck by those words. 

peering out when the footsteps have passed his hiding spot, jinseo peeks out only to see a very familiar face and he frowns, biting on his bottom lip as he contemplates his options.

the proper thing to do would be to report this to jinx directly, considering she came down to mingle with all the agents pretty often, but he also sort of doesn’t want to get his friend in trouble. 

for now, he decides, for now he won’t say anything. he’ll lurk in the shadows for now and if the moment comes when he needs to say something? so be it. but for now, he thinks, for now he would keep the secret.
