According to a recent episode of Family Feud (admittedly not the most reliable source), Miami is the "most popular answer" when American citizens were asked what the most popular US vacation spot is. This idea has also been communicated in many surveys and magazine articles. Only Miami could take a prime vacation spot like South Beach and turn it into a source of horror. The victims in this case were kidnapped during a walk down South Beach. The girl was gang-raped and shot execution style while her boyfriend was left on the side of the road with his throat slit. This obviously isn't the kind of experience tourists dream of, but it is a part of everyday life in Miami. Crime is abundant and tragedies occur all the time.

This unfortunate incident, if true, provides another example of the people who are meant to protect us instead taking advantage of citizens and abusing their power. This may explain why Sick Puppy aims to cast doubt on the legitimacy of different forms of authority in South Florida. Like government officials, police officers are meant to protect our best interests. It seems that South Florida is a haven for people who aim to use their power for evil instead of good.

Another murder case that is underway in Miami. This case is similar to the Geralyn Wilson and Casey Anthony cases. Like the Wilson case, this case has no body or witnesses and will likely become circumstantial much like the Wilson and Anthony cases. These three Florida cases involve one family member allegedly murdering another family member. Whether it is mother-child or husband-wife, such allegations are disheartening. I can only hope that the right ruling was made in the Wilson and Anthony cases. I also hope that this case will lead to justice for Vilet Torrez. I truly hope she will be found. If she is never found and if the husband is to blame, I hope that the jurors will be able to see past the lack of physical evidence and convict Cid Torrez. It is so upsetting that these cases seem commonplace in South Florida. Hopefully such cases will stop defining South Florida.

Reading this case kept bringing me back to details of the Casey Anthony trial. Once again a woman from Florida walks free from a murder charge mainly because of a case built almost entirely on circumstantial evidence. Although there are so many bizarre happenings in South Florida, juries seem reluctant to believe anything truly happened unless there is the equivalent of a video recording of the murder. It is as if they need to see the actual death in order to be persuaded. I believe this shows a hint of desensitization that is embedded in the Florida culture. Violence, child abuse, and murder are everywhere. How can we convict anyone?

After becoming frustrated with his girlfriend, a Florida man decided to retaliate in the only logical way: by biting off her finger. The accused has been arrested for aggravated battery. The girlfriend's thumb was not about to be reattached. This seemingly unnecessary and extreme reaction seems to parallel actions taken by Sick Puppy's Twilly Spree.

Man posed as a realtor and sold a house that he does not own. After moving in and spending $20,000 on renovations, the new "owners" discovered that they do not actually own their home and are forced to move out. The "realtor" has now been arrested for grand theft.
