Random Rant (British Orthodox Church)
Before I begin, I should warn you, if you came for a comprehensive explanation about each topic, you came to the wrong place. My intention for this was to spaz and that's about it so be prepared.
The British Orthodox Church may be the biggest case of mental gymnastics out of all churches under the episcopal/high church diaspora. It is a Miaphysite Church, a theological position that claims both divine and human forms of Christ are inseparable, that, as of 2015, has become completely independent from the Coptic Pope in Alexandria and claims to be the restoration of the ancient British Church that was present in the Isles before the Pagan Saxons began their invasions. That's right: they believe that Celtic Christianity is a product OF THE COPTS OF ALEXANDRIA AND NOT ROME!
Their Primate oversees the Metropolitan of Glastonbury, a place that, if it had Apostolic Succession, it would be Anglo-Saxon as the historical city was Glestingaburg, a Germanic settlement. It could have been Glastonbury of the Gaels but no, they are indeed referencing the Southwestern English town.
They follow two rites: the Alexandrian Rite (something that would have been next to impossible to spread at this time period) and the Western Rite, a rite that wasn't fully defined until Pope St. Gregory the Great, who conceived of the Pre-Tridentine Mass/Divine Liturgy of St. Gregory the Great. The time period they are referencing is BEFORE him. Absolutely none of this adds up and, since they've become independent from the Coptic Papacy, they don't even have any possible claim to Apostolic Succession. If you have no traceable Apostolic Succession, you can't claim to be a follower of the Church established by Jesus Christ.
This whole thing is rediculous and I think the funniest part is that they're so fringe. They're an independent Miaphysite British Church... that only exists in a single Metropolitan. It's time to stop, Mar Seraphim!
