I accidentally got philosophical about mic tape
So, I was trying to check if surgical tape is frequently used as mic tape—the adhesive in surgical tape causes me to blister really badly, so I wanted to know for safety reasons—and I ended up just asking Google "What is mic tape?"
To answer my question, it seems like surgical tape is a pretty common practice, which also explains why "mic tape scars" always sounded to me like what happens if you rip medical tape off of your body. ...they literally are.

Mic tape Motherfucking mic tape I HATE mic tape (but then again doesn't everybody?) I remember when I started doing musicals and I had mic tape put on me for the first time All of us in the show were pretty young and kinda new to mic tape So we had these tiny little mics strung off our ears and taped to the side of our face The mic strand was also taped to, the middle part of our neck, the back of our necks, and some of us (me included) had it taped to our backs Now while performing you begin to forget it's there but after- Ohhhhhh but afTER AFTER THE PERFORMANCE WE HAD TO TAKE OFF ALL THE MIC TAPE AND I FAILED AT THAT APPARENTLY BECAUSE WHEN I PULLED OFF THE TAPE I TORE IT AND THERE WERE STILL PARTS LEFT STUCK TO ME SO FOR LIKE A WEEK AFTER THE MUSICAL I WAS PEELING MIC TAPE OFF MYSELF AND I HAD RED MARKS REMAINING BLOODY HELL AND IS IT PAINFUL TO PULL MIC TAPE OFF LIKE I WOULD'VE RATHER KEPT IT ALL ON AND GO ABOUT MY DAYS OBLIVIOUS TO IT Removing mic tape is a painful task created by the devil to punish actors for some reason
