The fact that Daybreak is SO OBVIOUSLY influenced by Ferris Bueller, but Ferris Bueller is PLAYING THE PRINCIPAL—
Today’s Gamer of the Day is: Principal Michael Burr from Daybreak
Well, I’m back at it. This year? Shitty Valentine’s Day cards: Daybreak Edition (pt. 1)
...and my Pornhub history includes upset mothers, runaway train, and little spoon.
Matthew Broderick as Michael Burr in Daybreak (2019)
Principal Burr: Now, drop your knives.
Mona: Which ones?
Principal Burr: All of them.
The Jocks: Oh boy. Better pull up a lawn chair guys, we're gonna be here for a while.
I think it's really interesting that Daybreak kinda mirrors Sam feeling like nobody really knows her by having her be basically the only main character that we don't get a point-of-view segment for
Like, obviously Josh is a big focus so he's the one who leads the narrative at first, but by episode three Angelica has stolen that narrative. Wesley, Miss Crumble, Principal Burr, even Turbo- they all get the best part of a whole episode showing us more about who they were pre-apocalypse, explaining important events that have happened to them, how they have been changed as a result. Showing us more of their characters. Allowing us to know and understand them a little bit better.
And then there's Sam- who, even when she is on screen alone (end of PostMates), still isn't that same level of accessible as the other characters are. None of the other characters know her properly, and we as an audience don't either yet
Barry: I lost like 27 pounds.
Mona Lisa: Oh my God, what's your secret?!
Barry: Principal Burr ate my arm and leg.
Some of you may die, but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.
