I don't think we'll see Sophia at all next season--I think her release was meant to serve as her exit? Unless Laverne has said differently, Sophia was released and signed that agreement that said she wouldn't testify against MCC and it seems like Laverne is busier than ever. The only person she really knows/cares about who's still in prison is Gloria, and even that's iffy? It's too bad because I'd love to see Sophia and the nun reunite (literally THE most underrated friendship on OITNB).
I think that next season will split between showing the inmates in Max along with showing those that got out. That includes Piper writing her novel and adjusting, Blanca possibly about to be deported and if Laverne comes back, I can see them tackling Sophia’s life on the outside. I didn’t think she’d testify against MCC, but she does have a story left to tell.
She used to be a firefighter, but I doubt she’ll be able to return to the profession. She is a trans woman of color and an ex-con. This money may do wonders for her life, but she’ll still have challenges. And like I said, I think it’ll tackle her impending divorce. All this time, I think that Crystal stayed married to her so she can be advocate and handle things for Sophia when she couldn’t. But now Sophia is released and Crystal has been dating the pastor. The look on her face also showed she felt conflicted about all of this. Plus, there’s Michael. His relationship with Sophia has been strained…they need to work it out.
Yeah, Sophia’s story is not over yet. Even if it’s just an episode, if Laverne has time, we’ll see Sophia again.
