Objective kind of exams are a blessing and a curse at the same time (╥_╥)
I had my English Discourse test today. The instructions that were given were to create an analysis with random data that will be provided by the professor. You need to write the following:
intro (framework)
methodology
analysis
conclusion (one to two paragraphs)
May I remind you that to take this test, we only have 1 hour and 30 minutes to answer this. All of the things that you studied for 2 months will be applied to make this analysis, it was a life-and-death situation for me honestly. I was scared knowing that I had no idea how to do it but luckily once I saw the data that I would be using, all of the theories that I had in hand were able to use.
Along with my mighty pencil on the side, Halliday's Function of Language (1975) is the best thing for my analysis. However, I realised that Speech acts or Form and Language use are also applicable for this one but never mind, I needed to prioritise finishing this paper that is worth 100 points in my life.
Guess what? I was not able to finish this paper on time, and I thank my professor for extending the deadline for another 30 minutes, by that time, it's all about being a keyboard warrior and just typing what you could think of that might be essential in the paper. I tried to finish my test in the hallway but one of the professors that is handling another examination shouted at us and said, "You're not supposed to be here!" You see, I banister is the best table for a laptop especially when you're feeling pressured with your test. At 1:34 P.M. I handed in my exam entitled, A Mail: Functions Of Language Found In Letters.
Out Of The Shadows, by John Creasey writing as Michael Halliday (Hodder, 1967). From Ebay.
Michael Halliday, a 32-year-old retail manager from the Midlands, was accused of stealing money from a safe at his previous employer in Dubai. He denies the charges. Westminster magistrates’ court decided Halliday will not be sent to Dubai.
Halliday’s lawyers had told the courts that in the last five years, 19 British people have been beaten in Dubai jails. They also said a Crown Persecution Service independent expert was denied entry to the prisons when planning to inspect them for human rights abuses.
Much of the United Arab Emirates punishes homosexuality with death. In Dubai it is a 10 year prison sentence. Speaking before the decision, Halliday said he was concerned that because of his sexuality, he didn’t believe he could defend himself in court or have a fair trial.
‘The fact that I’m openly gay would mean that there would be prejudice against me,’ he told the Guardian. ‘If I was found guilty then I’m worried they would add on extra charges and increase my sentence.’

She seemed to be getting progressively better since the life-threatening respiratory infection she’d contracted after receiving radiotherapy for her advanced stage lung cancer. I had rushed over to Sydneyto be with her, not knowing whether she’d still be there when I landed. If she’s still around, I’ll get to see her, if not, I’d be there for…
