The risky new world of virtual currencies: security caution

Users of Bitcoin have been cautioned to be wary of the risks associated with using the virtual currency and others like Litecoin and Novacoin.
The caution comes from security firm AVG which says, in its market predictions for 2014, that we should be “very cautious of the volatility and high risk of what is still a relative minnow in world finance.”
And, “prepare to see the world evolve as the technologies behind them are tested and explored further,” AVG stresses.
According to AVG ‘money wants to be free in 2014’ – or as AVG Australia’s Security Advisor, Michael McKinnon says: “The concept of peer-to-peer technology, once associated with the need for users to share music, movies and other content for free, is now being applied to Money – in the form of Bitcoin, ‘crypto-currencies’ and other digitally-based financial instruments.”
