Golden Cheese Cookie in her Immortal splendour is Princess Gwen’s sovereign appetite made heraldic: not mere avarice, though avarice glitters at the rim of both women’s goblets, but the older royal conviction that whatever the monarch loves becomes part of the realm’s treasury. Gwen, towheaded as flax bleaching beneath a Texan noon, enters a chamber as if trumpeters had been stationed invisibly behind the arras; Golden Cheese descends with the solar extravagance of a Byzantine apse, every feather, spear, aureole, & golden plane announcing possession before conversation has fairly buttoned its gloves. Their resemblance begins wherever vanity ceases being a drawing room peccadillo & becomes governmental theatre. Each cultivates magnificence as policy. Each knows that a populace may be rallied by spectacle when parchment, arithmetic, & cautious ministers have turned bloodless. Gold upon Gwen does not whisper wealth; it clangs like a cathedral plate dropped upon marble, warm, insolent, sacred, faintly vulgar, altogether hers.
Who does Golden Cheese represent within Gwen? She represents the princess who expects history to remember the cut of her sleeve while also understanding grain levies, border guns, diplomatic marriages & the price of rebuilding a burnt village. Gwen’s education in finance, science, mathematics, governments, ethics & warfare gives ballast to her peacock flourishes. She may curl a lip at an ill-polished boot, then calculate artillery provision with a swiftness that leaves old councillors blinking into their whiskers. Golden Cheese’s revived purpose, protecting kingdom, friends, & denizens after bereavement & defeat, corresponds to Gwen’s buried good heart: the clean metal beneath parfume, powder, & petulance. The princess’s selfishness is genuine, honey; so is her loyalty. That contradiction is not a blemish pasted upon the portrait. It is the portrait’s chiaroscuro, as Caravaggio might have pitched a spoilt golden cheek against a black field so that mercy arrives looking almost indecently bright.
Their principal strengths are altitude, nerve, self invention, & the knack of turning private desire into public momentum. Golden Cheese flies; Gwen behaves as though gravity were a household servant who has forgotten its station. Her long blonde hair, falling with Raphaelesque excess far beyond practical court fashion, supplies a mortal equivalent for radiant wings. It streams behind her during horsemanship, sword drill or a galliard, describing pale calligraphy through the air; Alexei, cool as winter glass, may watch without surrendering his composure, yet the minute contraction beside his mouth betrays him. Gwen’s archery, clay-pigeon shooting, & fencing likewise answer the Immortal Cookie’s martial radiance. She does not merely own weapons. She choreographs them. The bowstring nips her fingers, the shotgun bruises her shoulder, the sword basket warms within her palm, while every action acquires the finished contour of a publicity still from a Technicolour Arthurian picture.
Their weaknesses grow from the same sumptuous root. Possession curdles into possessiveness; confidence ferments into the absurd certainty that applause is a natural resource. Gwen can wound friends for the brief narcotic sweetness of winning a quarrel. She grows condescending when frightened, petty when eclipsed, cruel when an insecurity has been touched by an uninvited finger. Golden Cheese’s losses expose the terror beneath acquisitiveness: if one names everything mine, then every disappearance feels like an amputation. Gwen fears her father’s death, though she may disguise the dread beneath complaints about mourning clothes, succession ceremonies, or the deplorable taste of visiting dignitaries. She fears that subjects will love the crown’s embroidery more than the woman bearing its weight. Her loudness consequently resembles a cannon fired across fog, a demand for proof that somebody, particularly Alexei, still hears her.
Gold, green, yellow, pink & purple form Gwen’s personal heraldry, though Golden Cheese appoints gold the governing sun around which the lesser hues revolve. Green signifies stewardship, hunting land, Michael’s wry kinship, & the political duty of keeping a kingdom fertile. Yellow carries wheat, cowardice conquered, Michael’s rain bright humour & the daffodil insolence of spring. Pink lends the armoured princess erotic softness: rouged lips, satin stays, flushed collarbones after swordplay, a silk ribbon Alexei might loosen with deliberate Russian patience. Purple invokes Tyrian sovereignty, Welsh twilight over ruined keeps & the bruised underside of command. These colours recur in her practices: gilt stationery, green sealing wax, jonquil shooting jackets, rose dancing slippers, amethyst hair combs, brocades patterned with pomegranates, suns, arrows & predatory birds. Her possessions do not idle; they propagate a visual code telling courtiers when she wishes to charm, intimidate, mourn or seduce.
Golden Cheese also illuminates Gwen’s manner of communication. Both favour proclamation, teasing boasts, gorgeous overstatement, & the theatrical rescue of a lost contest by announcing that victory was voluntarily bestowed. Gwen’s Texan accent coats multilingual accomplishment in mesquite smoke. Her English snaps; her French curls; her Spanish warms; her German acquires military edges; her Italian rolls like vermilion silk. When anger lowers that grating pitch into an uncanny contralto, everybody in the room discovers urgent respect for architecture, carpets, or shoes. Yet intimate speech changes its temperature. With the Monkees she gossips, heckles, bargains, & occasionally apologises without admitting that the thing is an apology. With Alexei, words become a fencing lesson: thrust, parry, pause, the sudden naked touch of truth. Their romance teaches her that love is neither tribute nor annexation, though she must relearn the lesson whenever jealousy gets uppity.
Her hobbies, jobs, & cultural place gather within the Immortal likeness. A princess does not enjoy the luxury of one trade; she is apprentice monarch, diplomat, military emblem, patroness, household executive, ceremonial body, & prospective mother of policy. Gwen reads chronicles, sketches costumes, dances, studies maps, hunts, rides, practises languages, discusses crops, appraises weapons, & memorises the names of servants’ children because governance occurs equally in council chambers & back passages. Her dream is not merely to reign after her father. She desires a reign too unmistakable to be footnoted as somebody else’s interval. Her deepest insight, still ripening, is that immortality belongs neither to body nor metal. It inhabits repaired institutions, protected friendships, remembered mercies, & stories ordinary mouths choose to repeat. Golden Cheese represents Gwen at her most resplendent because she converts the princess’s gaudy hunger into guardianship: avarice redeemed when the treasure claimed is the continued breathing of one’s people.
🍓 Hollyberry Cookie (Aegis)
Hollyberry Cookie in her Aegis aspect represents Gwen’s body placed between calamity & the people she has sworn, however irritably, to keep alive. Where Golden Cheese corresponds to the crown as sun, Hollyberry corresponds to the crown as shield: a scarlet, berry laden, laughing bulwark whose conviviality never cancels strategic intelligence. Gwen’s mouth may be snotty, her toilette expensive, her patience shorter than Davy’s riding crop, yet danger calls forth another register. The shoulders square; the dark brown eyes quit their decorative hauteur; the deep voice emerges with iron filings in it. That alteration resembles a painted panel opening to reveal armour behind saints. Hollyberry’s Athena-like conjunction of war, wisdom, strategy, & arts suits a princess schooled in governments, swords, ethics, dance, & diplomacy. Gwen understands, by instinct as much as tutelage, that grace & violence share measure, timing, distance, breath& the terrible necessity of choosing when not to strike.
Her personality meets Hollyberry’s in courage, desire for company, blunt affection, & cheerful defiance of dainty expectations. Gwen is no meek maiden peering from a turret whilst men manufacture destiny below. Lord, no… She wants the map, the horse, the loaded gun, the unvarnished report, & perhaps a fresh lipstick before departure. Her humour is rude enough to startle a chapel mouse; Hollyberry’s robust warmth gives that vulgarity a humane counterpart. Both women treat solemnity as a garment that must occasionally be tugged down from behind. Their friendliness can be overwhelming, their voices room filling, their embraces nearly military. With Michael, Gwen’s physical resemblance becomes a family joke edged by uncanny recognition; with Peter, she may soften before she notices; with Micky, absurdity ricochets; with Davy, royal airs receive expert mockery. Community for her is noisy, quarrelsome, improper, & indispensable.
The Aegis chapter discloses Gwen’s strengths as leadership under impact. She has the trained eye to read formations, the dancer’s foot to change direction, the marksman’s breath discipline, & the aristocrat’s practised ability to keep a face composed while bad intelligence arrives. Her techniques are not all battlefield devices. She controls a hostile table by asking the quietest delegate a precise question; rescues a nervous child by pretending the child is rescuing her; breaks a bully’s command of the room with one exquisitely aimed vulgarity; uses ceremony like a shield wall, placing bodies, colours, music, & sequence where panic might otherwise breed. Hollyberry’s aegis therefore represents not only protection but dramaturgy. Gwen knows a kingdom watches its sovereign for cues. If she laughs while the ceiling trembles, frightened folk may find enough breath to move towards the door.
That strength courts characteristic faults. Protectiveness can become interference; bravery can grow addicted to visible peril; magnanimity may conceal the vanity of being necessary. Gwen dislikes being guarded because receiving protection feels too much like admitting flesh. She is tall, skilled, & deliciously royal, yet still bruisable. A sword may open skin regardless of genealogy; recoil may purple a shoulder; exhaustion may grain the face beneath powder. Her insecurity concerns helplessness rather than ugliness. If Alexei absorbs danger without consulting her, gratitude arrives yoked to fury. If her friends conceal distress, she interprets secrecy as exclusion. Hollyberry’s grand maternal shelter helps articulate Gwen’s future challenge: to defend without smothering, advise without colonising, love without demanding that beloved people perform fragility on command.
Hollyberry also refracts Gwen’s colours through the warmer end of the royal spectrum. Pink ceases to be merely boudoir sweetness & becomes flesh, berry juice, banners, living circulation. Purple becomes crushed fruit upon linen, a reminder that abundance stains. Gold borders the shield; green belongs to leaves, game paths & the environmental studies that prevent royal hunting from becoming mere slaughter; yellow flickers in torchlight over feast tables. Textiles answer these meanings: rose damask toughened with hidden leather, purple velvet over mail, green wool cloaks, golden braid shaped like interlaced Welsh beasts, pink gloves darkening at the palm after weapons practice. Her style is feminine because she chooses femininity, martial because she has earned it, erotic because confidence inhabits every lengthy stride. Alexei sees the perspiration brightening her throat after a bout, the hair escaping its pins, the imperious curve of her lower lip; desire enters through respect before it reaches skin.
Her passions under the Aegis sign include dancing, riding, hunting, target shooting, military history, constitutional argument& any feast at which gossip improves the pudding. Her knowledge is catholic in the scholarly sense: broad, disciplined, hungry. She can cite Roman campaigns, dispute a medieval succession, admire the saturated magnificence of Rubens, recognise the severe geometry of Mondrian’s forebears in heraldic quartering, then ask why the kitchens are wasting peel that could fatten pigs. Her vocabulary traverses court French, Texan barnyard invective, Italian endearment, German precision, & Southern phrases whose courtesy carries a concealed stiletto. Communication operates as hospitality when possible, command when required. Her code is simple beneath ornament: nobody under her roof is surrendered cheaply.
Hollyberry represents Gwen’s dream of a kingdom felt as kinship rather than acreage. The future queen desires loyalty, naturally, though her better self knows forced devotion is only captivity wearing ribbons. She wants villages that can laugh at her, soldiers who can contradict her, artists who can scandalise her, children who know the palace gardens belong partly to them. This wish connects her to Calvin’s anti-authoritarian generosity, Adelaide’s chromatic imagination, Linda’s farm-bred sweetness, Ludlow’s just bookishness, & even Alexei’s perilous double life. Gwen may never become gentle in the ordinary sense; gentleness would fit her like another woman’s corset. She can, however, become safe. The Aegis likeness resides there: a loud, blemished, warm hearted sovereign whose shield is formidable precisely because the arm behind it has known fear & lifted anyway.
🗡️ Kouign-Amann Cookie
Kouign-Amann Cookie represents Gwen as chivalric discipline glazed in sweetness, a paladin whose polished ardour answers the princess’s education in swordplay, riding, ceremony & moral obligation. The Breton pastry behind the name, folded through butter & sugar until its edges caramelise, supplies a splendid conceit for Gwen’s construction. She too is laminated: etiquette over appetite, scholarship over instinct, silk over muscle, royal sweetness over a temperament capable of scorching the pan. No single layer explains her. At court she may appear an illuminated damsel from a manuscript, gold hair pouring like marginal vines around a gown of pink, green, & purple; in the tiltyard she becomes a long limbed adversary whose reach resembles Michael’s, whose dark gaze estimates distance before an opponent has completed his flourish. Kouign-Amann’s knightly faith permits Gwen’s vanity to coexist with service, as jewels may coexist with rivets upon a ceremonial sword.
This Cookie corresponds especially to Gwen’s practices, techniques, & ideals. She repeats footwork until stone dust pales her slippers, nocks arrows until the fingers ache, recites irregular verbs while a lady fastens hooks, studies finance after midnight, redraws a defensive position when tutors have gone. Pampering has not erased labour; it has merely provided prettier rooms in which labour occurs. Her code of conduct descends from medieval household oaths yet passes through a modern, 1960s impatience with inherited foolishness. Rank imposes duty, not infallibility. A promise binds even when inconvenient. Cowardice consists not in feeling fear but in letting another pay for one’s vanity. These are not maxims Gwen always obeys. Their importance lies in the sting she feels when she violates them.
Kouign-Amann’s bright, gallant appearance represents the princess’s style at its cleanest. Imagine cream coloured armour chased with gold quatrefoils; a rose silk surcoat; green enamel leaves; purple stones no larger than raindrops; blonde hair braided into a coronet that keeps loosening under exertion. The shapes are lancet arches, shields, sugar crisp petals, chessboard diamonds, & the upward diagonals of lances. Her scents mingle beeswax, leather, cold iron, face powder, violet water, & the faint warm salt of skin. The sounds are buckle click, skirt rustle, spur chime, bow twang, Gwen’s pitchy complaint ricocheting off a chapel vault. Sensuality emerges from containment: the glove peeled from a sword hand, the pulse visible after a gorget lifts, the compression marks left by fitted brocade, Alexei’s fingers pausing at a stubborn clasp while her bravado melts into watchful stillness.
The likeness also reveals weaknesses produced by idealism. Gwen may demand impossible purity from companions because she hates the muddle in herself. She can mistake elaborate manners for honour, romantic danger for meaningful action, a splendid uniform for competence. Kouign-Amann’s earnestness corresponds to the part of Gwen that wants to be the heroine of a chronicle, not merely the administrator of drains. Yet kingship is full of drains, mildew, tariffs, disputed hedges, sick horses, & people who cannot be redeemed by a speech. Her tendency towards drama makes repetitive civic care feel colourless. The prospective monarch must learn that maintaining a bridge for forty uncelebrated years is a nobler adventure than cutting one photogenic villain from the saddle.
Friendship softens this knightly self-image. Peter’s sincerity tests whether her courtesy has substance. Michael’s sarcasm punctures pageantry; since he wears her face in a masculine key, his disapproval can feel like a mirror refusing flattery. Davy knows princely performance well enough to detect the joinery. Micky treats solemn ritual as raw material for lunacy. Adelaide can make splendour more imaginative, Calvin more hospitable, Linda more tender, Ludlow more just, while BabyFace embodies prowess emptied of moral service. Gwen’s relationship with Alexei is the closest tournament. His stoicism refuses to cheer merely because she has entered; his expertise makes counterfeit bravery impossible; his care appears through exact action rather than courtly gush. She desires his praise because it cannot be taxed from him.
Her dreams under this emblem are full of quests, though adulthood edits their scenery. As a girl she may have imagined dragons, enchanted borders, banners on a blue morning. As heir she discovers famine, espionage, faction, & the seduction of simple answers. Her passions for literature, poetry, & history let her recognise the old patterns without becoming their prisoner. Arthurian Britain offers fellowship beside betrayal; Welsh tales offer metamorphosis, sovereignty, impossible bargains; Southern memory offers manners braided with violence; California offers sunlit informality, surf music, canyon talk & the cheeky proposition that an ancient throne might be questioned by barefoot friends. Gwen’s chivalry becomes useful only after it survives all four climates.
Kouign-Amann Cookie therefore represents the princess’s desire to deserve the gorgeous life she was handed. Strength, skill, culture, inherited privilege, erotic charisma, & expensive possessions are ingredients, not absolutions. Her ultimate ability is disciplined transformation: heat making brittle caramel from sweetness, pressure making layers rather than paste. She wants to become a monarch whose elegance does not conceal idleness, whose cutting wit spares the powerless, whose sword remains keen enough to matter yet sheathed often enough to prove judgement. That aspiration is as fancy as a fanfare & as plain as bread. It gives Gwen’s character a moral spine beneath the brocade.
🧈 Royal Margarine Cookie
Royal Margarine Cookie catches Gwen in her peacock hour: flirtatious, magnificently groomed, socially agile, faintly fraudulent, mounted above ordinary embarrassment, & perfectly willing to gild an anecdote until truth requires smelling salts. His dragon riding bravado parallels the princess’s equestrian grace, weapons training, & appetite for entrances. Gwen does not simply arrive at a California gathering near the Monkees’ Malibu pad; she materialises as if Cecil Beaton had arranged the sunset, gold hair combed into a shining fall, green silk travelling coat cinched over a figure made statuesque by height, purple liner lifting the dark eyes, pink mouth already curved around some dangerous observation. Her Texan vowels among royalty possess the same delicious incongruity as a courtier atop an extravagant beast. She is high-born yet refuses to sound domesticated by Europe.
What this Cookie exposes is Gwen’s use of charm as technique. She can flatter a minister’s scholarship, tease a guard out of panic, make an ambassador feel chosen, entice gossip from a rival, or persuade a stable lad that an inconvenient midnight ride is historic duty. Her communication is strategic without always becoming false. Vocabulary serves wardrobe: grand Latinate clauses for council, crisp French for diplomacy, barnyard Southern imagery when patience snaps, low Italian near Alexei’s ear, German when an order must possess corners. Her habits include checking reflections, adjusting other people’s clothes without permission, naming horses more tastefully than some aristocrats name children, collecting delicious rumours, rehearsing retorts, & pretending spontaneous triumphs required no preparation.
Royal Margarine’s showmanship corresponds to genuine strengths. Gwen reads audiences as a rider reads the minute tremor beneath a saddle. She knows when to tighten, release, soothe, command, or allow momentum. Dancing cultivates the same intelligence: a shift of weight, an offered hand, a turn delayed by half a beat can convert awkwardness into seduction. Her beauty is not demure. Michael’s features translated through long blonde hair & royal cosmetics create something handsome before pretty, angular before delicate, with a nose too characterful for porcelain & a lower lip capable of looking amused while the eyes remain prosecutorial. Alexei loves that face partly because it refuses prettification. When she leans close, voice dropping, parfume warmed against the hollow below her ear, flirtation becomes less a plea than a royal challenge.
Yet the Margarine mirror is slippery. Gwen may embellish courage, conceal ignorance, monopolise attention, or let a costly appearance stand in for interior security. Vanity is one of her pleasures & one of her prisons. A blemish before a state supper can feel, absurdly, like treason committed by her own skin. Another woman’s effortless elegance nettles her. Michael’s resemblance unsettles her because he proves the face does not belong solely to her mythology. Her insecurity can therefore provoke condescension, gossip, or cruel appraisal. She notices cheap fabric, provincial pronunciation, bitten nails, ill-fitting shoulders; the moral question is whether perception becomes wit, assistance, or injury. Too frequently, especially when frightened, she chooses injury because it grants instant height.
Colours in this portrait have the lacquer of a 1960s fashion editorial: acid yellow beside episcopal purple, lacquer pink beside bottle green, all buckled with gold. Patterns include dragon scales, paisley, heraldic stripes, op-art checks & curling medieval foliage. Possessions accumulate as instruments of theatre: jewelled riding crops, tinted spectacles, monogrammed gun cases, silk scarves that refuse to stay knotted, a gold compact, bilingual love letters hidden inside a tedious economics volume, snapshots from Malibu in which she pretends not to be delighted. Her cultural appetite joins Savile Row severity to Carnaby Street cheek, a Welsh castle’s damp romance to a Southern racetrack’s dust, Pre-Raphaelite hair to Peggy Moffitt geometry. She understands that fashion is political speech conducted without verbs.
Royal Margarine also helps map her relationships. With Ludlow she recognises the lonely labour of representing a realm, although his shyness makes her alternately protective & exasperated. With Calvin she meets a different kind of charisma, soft-bellied, Welsh, hospitable, anarchic, scholarly & unabashed; his refusal of airs pricks her assumptions while his theatricality delights her. Adelaide’s all-colour imagination gives Gwen a co-conspirator in adornment. Linda’s bubblegum brightness proves vibrancy need not be aristocratic. BabyFace demonstrates charm severed from conscience, the destination Gwen approaches whenever cleverness becomes predation. Her chosen community thus keeps revising her conduct. They are not subjects, a fact she finds medicinal in small doses.
Her job as future sovereign requires precisely the performance this comparison both celebrates & mistrusts. Royalty is costume, itinerary, gaze, rumour, emblem, & repeated gesture. Gwen cannot discard display without surrendering a tool of office; she must instead make display answerable to truth. Her dream is to dazzle without deceiving, to flirt without exploiting, to enjoy luxury without imagining it proof of worth. Royal Margarine represents her because both possess a glamorous instinct for mounting the unlikely & waving as though equilibrium were hereditary. The mature Gwen will still boast, still preen, still tell a tale wider than the gate it entered through. She will merely know when to climb down, curry the beast, & admit that somebody else held the reins.
🪸 Black Pearl Cookie
Black Pearl Cookie represents the abyss beneath Gwen’s gilded architecture: rage after betrayal, beauty sharpened into menace, loneliness translated into jurisdiction. The princess ordinarily favours gold, green, yellow, pink, & purple, yet every bright palette casts a complementary darkness. Black Pearl supplies violet-black water, nacreous wounds, drowned palaces, & the voluptuous terror of a woman who has learned that admiration can be another appetite directed at her body. Gwen’s cruelty is often comic or petty, but under grievous injury it could acquire the cold ceremonial shape of vengeance. Her deep angry register already hints at subterranean chambers beneath the pitchy chatter. When it arrives, words slow; vowels darken; everyone remembers that a royal education includes war.
The visual correspondence is not literal but psychological. Gwen’s tow coloured hair belongs to noon, Black Pearl to moonless tides; their meeting produces an eclipse. Imagine Gwen at a palace window during a coastal storm, blonde lengths dulled to pewter, brown eyes nearly black, purple silk absorbing the scant light while gold embroidery glimmers like wreckage under water. Her face, so mobile during gossip, settles into carved stillness. This is beauty made forbidding rather than inviting. Alexei, trained to read danger, knows the signs: thumb rubbing one ring, shoulders unnaturally level, courtesy becoming perfect. Desire does not disappear from such moments; it grows perilous, braided with the knowledge that intimacy grants another person the map of one’s defences.
Black Pearl corresponds to Gwen’s fears of abandonment, objectification, political marriage, treachery, & helpless transformation. An heir’s body is never entirely private. Courtiers discuss fertility, alliances, appearance, & succession as though skin were crown property. Gwen answers that violation with vanity because choosing her own spectacle restores some dominion. Her erotic self-presentation is thus both pleasure & fortification. She may display throat, back, waist, or long legs upon her own terms, relishing Alexei’s disciplined attention; any presumption from another quarter meets contempt keen enough to pare varnish. Her fault lies in punishing uncertainty before it becomes betrayal, drowning a harmless ambiguity because the old fear already smells salt.
The sea witch likeness heightens her insight into power. Black Pearl rules through awe & terror; Gwen has enough intelligence to recognise their efficiency, enough history to recognise their bill. Fear makes swift obedience, poor counsel, & elaborate lies. A monarch surrounded by terrified mouths hears only weather reports composed for picnics. Gwen’s bluntness can invite truth because people know she respects nerve; her cruelty can extinguish the same gift. She must choose, repeatedly, whether the throne becomes lighthouse or whirlpool. The Malibu shore, with Pacific glare hammering the water by afternoon & black kelp breathing upon sand after dusk, offers her a living emblem of this decision. Beauty, nourishment, distance, & death occupy one body of water.
Her interests under this sign turn morbid & antiquarian: shipwreck chronicles, dynastic murders, mourning customs, drowned bells, poisonous jewels, German Expressionist shadows, Munch’s psychic weather, Dürer’s apocalyptic line. Adelaide’s mortuary knowledge would fascinate rather than repel her; Calvin’s medieval histories provide queens slandered, enclosed, widowed, or erased; Michael’s own scars & guarded suffering teach that survival need not become spectacle. Gwen’s knowledge of ethics encounters its sternest examination here. She can explain justice in five languages. Can she practise it while humiliated? Can she distinguish accountability from the sensual intoxication of seeing an enemy kneel? Black Pearl asks these questions without supplying a comfortable answer.
Patterns & possessions within this portrait turn aquatic: pearl buttons like pale eyes, purple wave scrolls, green-black velvet, gold nets, pink coral branches, yellow lamps shivering in draughts. Her habits become nocturnal: pacing galleries barefoot, reading intelligence reports twice, writing letters she burns, touching the pommel of a dagger while thinking. Communication narrows into riddles, omissions & tests, each one designed to make loved people prove what trust ought to have presumed. Alexei refuses some tests, passes others, names the game when patience permits. That resistance anchors their relationship. He does not worship her wound. He neither fears nor romanticises the monster she might become.
Black Pearl Cookie represents a possible Gwen rather than her daily self: the sovereign fashioned if grief fossilises before tenderness can reach it. The likeness honours her resilience, sensual command, formidable presence & refusal to remain prey; it condemns the temptation to make innocence pay interest on another person’s crime. Gwen dreams of being unforgettable. Black Pearl warns that infamy also satisfies that desire. The princess’s better destiny requires descending into the dark water, retrieving whatever truth lies there, then returning with wet hair, shaking hands, & no counterfeit claim that the sea was shallow. Her good heart does not abolish darkness. It gives her a reason to come ashore.
🌾 Rye Cookie
Rye Cookie is Gwen stripped of canopy, procession, & diplomatic sugar: the crack shot beneath the coronet, Texan cadence beneath court French, frontier judgement beneath illuminated genealogy. Gwen’s proficiency with guns, particularly clay-pigeon shooting, makes this correspondence immediate. She understands weight, stock, sightline, wind, recoil, & the clean interval between decision & report. In a jonquil shooting jacket with green facings, purple scarf tucked safely away, gold hair braided down her back & brown eyes narrowed against white sky, she resembles a Western heroine mislaid inside a royal chronicle. The Southern voice completes the fusion. Its drawl is no affectation; it carries dust, livestock, heat, courtesy sharpened to insult, & the democratic suspicion that a fool remains a fool under ermine.
Rye’s independence represents Gwen’s desire to prove usefulness beyond birth. A princess receives access before merit, a fact clever enough to embarrass her even when vanity protests. Marksmanship offers a sterner arithmetic. The target does not bow. A missed clay does not become hit because a chamberlain revises minutes. Gwen likes disciplines in which consequence arrives visibly. Sword fencing, archery, dancing, & riding share that honesty. Her strengths here are concentration, quick recovery, competitive fire, spatial intelligence, & steady hands. Her weaknesses are impatience, cockiness, a tendency to pursue the offender before comprehending the whole plot, & a relish for public victory that may distort justice.
The Rye likeness gives her moral vocabulary a frontier grain. Gwen believes theft from the hungry differs from theft by the comfortable, that law without circumstance is laziness wearing a badge, that hospitality creates obligations, that a threat against friends cancels several niceties. Yet she can become self-righteous. Once convinced, she rides hard; contrary evidence looks like brush to be cleared. Government will require more patience than bounty work. Finance hides villains behind ledgers, diplomacy disguises gunfire as punctuation, social science reveals injuries without a single culprit available for a satisfying duel. Her insight must expand from identifying bad men to altering bad arrangements, a lesson Calvin’s bottom-up anarchism would press with bright Welsh argument.
Appearance under Rye’s influence pares ornament without surrendering sex appeal. Brown leather moulds to the hip; green wool fits the long torso; yellow silk flashes at the throat; gold buckles catch sun; a pink mouth rests against severe tailoring & rolled clove. The erotic charge comes from capability: powder residue upon fingers, a firm forearm exposed by a rolled cuff, the slight backward set of her shoulders after recoil, Alexei observing that she checks the chamber before accepting praise. Her scent is saddle soap, sun warmed cloth, gun oil, crushed grass, & rose powder. The shapes are cartridges, fence rails, winging discs, long shadows at five o’clock. Sound is spare: mechanism, breath, shot, fragments ticking into a field.
Her friendships reveal how this self operates. Michael recognises the same stubborn Southern flint & may quarrel with her precisely because resemblance removes politeness. Peter asks what the target means to the creature being hunted, drawing ethics into sport. Davy understands horses & competitive nerve; Micky supplies chaos no firing range requested. Linda’s ranch childhood gives her practical knowledge Gwen cannot buy, a salutary reversal of class. BabyFace is the nightmare version of firearms as vanity, violence, & dominion, while Alexei meets skill with skill, never patronising her accuracy nor pretending weapons are toys. Gwen’s respect is most readily won by competence accompanied by restraint.
Rye also symbolises Gwen’s prospective job as enforcer of law. She will inherit judges, guards, prisons, taxes, & lethal authority. Her personal courage cannot excuse careless systems. The princess’s studies in ethics, economics, history, & government must govern the trigger finger. Her code matures from ‘punish the villain’ towards ‘protect the vulnerable, discover the truth, preserve proportion, permit appeal’. That evolution lacks the tidy snap of a rifle bolt, yet it determines whether her reign becomes just. She fears being perceived as soft, particularly by martial councillors; consequently, she may choose severity to prove backbone. Real backbone sometimes signs clemency while a room mutters.
Rye Cookie represents Gwen’s hard, sun burnished directness, the part capable of leaving a ballroom before pudding because something beyond the gates requires action. She gives the princess grit, humour, practical appetite, & resistance to ornamental helplessness. She also places a burr beneath the saddle of royal certainty. Accuracy with a weapon is not omniscience; courage is not due process; a straight road upon a map may cross somebody’s home. Gwen’s dream under this sign is to be the ruler whose aim is trusted. Her destiny depends upon learning that worthy aim begins long before the finger tightens.
☕️ Espresso Cookie
Espresso Cookie represents Gwen’s cultivated mind, perfectionism, hauteu,r & verbal economy whenever the usual pitchy flood condenses into one lethal sentence. He is scholarship with dark crema, fatigue hidden beneath finish, intellectual pride sharpened by exact practice. Gwen’s curriculum is breathtaking not because a tutor once waved each subject beneath her nose, but because succession requires fluency across incompatible worlds: mathematics beside poetry, finance beside ethics, guns beside environmental study, rhetoric beside listening. Like Espresso, she dislikes preventable failure & unearned confidence. Unlike him, she is seldom brief. Yet when genuinely annoyed, she can reduce a verbose fool to ash with six well chosen words & a raised brow inherited from nobody willing to admit responsibility.
This resemblance inhabits habits of study. Gwen annotates margins in three languages, arranges correspondence by urgency, sketches a gown beside a fortification, keeps financial columns ruler straight, tests assertions against chronicles & grows cross when beautiful theories encounter ugly figures. Coffee suits her less as beverage than emblem: bitter concentration dressed in aromatic luxury. Her working chambers carry ink, leather, lamp oil, rose water, & paper warmed by afternoon sun. Gold weights pin maps; green ribbons divide policies; yellow cards mark unresolved questions; pink paper bears private gossip; purple folders contain material too consequential for idle hands. Possessions become an external memory palace, each colour a code.
Espresso’s strengths mirror her intelligence, precision, independence, scepticism, & capacity for sustained work. Gwen can enter a council meeting having read every appendix, then ask the one question advisers hoped rank would prevent her understanding. Her knowledge gives confidence substance. Her multilingual vocabulary lets her hear when translations sand away insult, ambiguity, or desire. History furnishes analogies; art trains vision; literature teaches motives facts cannot inventory; dance teaches pattern; science rebukes superstition; social sciences reveal how private pain may be politically manufactured. She is not omniscient, though snobbery occasionally impersonates it.
Weaknesses flourish wherever intellect becomes caste. Gwen can dismiss slow speakers, confuse polish with thought, hoard tasks because delegation risks imperfection & treat ordinary ignorance as moral failure. Exhaustion makes her brittle. A missed meal, long sitting, tight stays, & lamp smoke may turn wit vicious. Espresso’s composure corresponds to her concealment of strain. She prefers appearing naturally brilliant to admitting preparation, because effort seems to threaten royal magic. This insecurity is peculiar: she wants praise for mastery yet resents evidence that mastery cost anything. Alexei recognises fatigue in the delayed blink, the over careful enunciation, the hand remaining too still upon a page. His care may arrive as food placed within reach, curtains closed, questions postponed.
The aesthetic is darker than her ordinary wardrobe without abandoning favourite hues. Deep green velvet, aubergine silk, old gold braid, mustard lamplight, & a coral pink lip against intellectual severity produce a portrait worthy of an austere 1960s art-film princess. Her tall shape becomes a vertical exclamation among shelves. Blonde hair is tied low with black ribbon so it does not invade ink; loose wisps soften the architecture. The sensual element lies in concentration: lower lip caught briefly against crooked teeth, dark eyes moving line by line, one long hand staining at the middle finger, Alexei watching the stern profile loosen when he translates a difficult passage with unexpected elegance.
Espresso clarifies her communicative relationships. With Calvin, learned argument becomes sport, medieval minutiae colliding with state necessity until supper cools. With Adelaide, colour & mortality complicate policy. With Peter, intelligence unadorned by snobbery embarrasses her assumptions. Michael’s streetwise mechanics remind her that knowledge can live in fingers as richly as books; Davy’s theatre & horses disclose specialised literacies; Micky’s mathematics beneath clowning rebukes appearance; Linda’s ranch wisdom punctures metropolitan conceit. Gwen’s community is an academy without gowns, often loud, sometimes crude, frequently more honest than court.
Her dream under Espresso’s sign is competent rule, not merely beloved rule. She wants budgets that hold, bridges that stand, treaties whose subordinate clauses do not hatch wars, schools that teach questioning rather than obeisance. Her fear is exposure as decorative, a blonde duplicate of Michael wearing borrowed gold. Intellectual arrogance defends that wound poorly; intellectual humility may heal it. Espresso Cookie represents the formidable scholar in Gwen, the woman who can master systems, invent techniques, & translate knowledge into policy. He also reminds her that brilliance unshared becomes parfume in a sealed bottle: expensive, concentrated, & politically useless.
🍭 Twizzly Gummy Cookie
Twizzly Gummy Cookie represents Gwen’s most riotous voltage: loudness, weapon-love, impudence, speed, theatrical wickedness, & the anarchic pleasure of making a regulated room lose its starch. This is the princess who laughs during protocol, fires before a stuffy uncle finishes explaining why ladies ought not, gossips with Micky until fact & lunacy exchange hats, then strides away trailing gold hair like a fuse. Twizzly’s chromatic mayhem expands Gwen’s five favourite colours into electrical mutations: yellow becomes sulphur glare, pink becomes hot candy lacquer, purple becomes storm-light, green becomes poisonous phosphor, gold becomes sparks spat from a damaged crown. Where Golden Cheese monumentalises her, Twizzly dynamites the monument simply to see whether the pigeons s have opinions
Their shared personality traits include quick wit, vanity, rudeness, selfish delight, dramatic communication, fearlessness that sometimes outruns judgement, & a relish for provoking authority. Gwen is not a villain, though she can perform villainy for amusement when the audience is safe. She enjoys the wicked line, the imperious pose, the scandalised gasp. This habit has political danger. Courtiers may not know when she plays; subjects cannot always afford to interpret royal whim as comedy. Twizzly’s lawless appetite therefore represents Gwen’s fault of forgetting that her mischief descends from a position protected by guards, money & title. The same prank played downward becomes cruelty.
Yet chaos contains strengths court training cannot manufacture. Gwen improvises. When plans collapse, she does not cling prettily to wreckage. She notices the unguarded window, the unclaimed horse, the chandelier chain, the language nobody expected her to understand. Her mind branches rapidly, part strategist, part dancer, part rude music hall turn. Twizzly’s weaponry corresponds to Gwen’s guns, yet also to her voice. Pitch can become barrage; a lowered register becomes warning; multilingual insults arrive from unexpected directions. Communication is kinetic, full of mimicry, sound effects, quotations, sudden confidences, & indecorous truth. Micky adores the velocity until she outpaces even him. Michael calls for order while concealing amusement. Peter finds the injured feeling beneath the fireworks. Davy refuses to let royalty monopolise theatre.
Her appearance in this mode owes more to King’s Road audacity than ancestral portraiture. Hair flies loose; purple eyeliner wings towards the temple; yellow patent boots strike hard; a green mini-coat flashes pink lining; gold chains knock against one another. Patterns are zigzags, spirals, lightning forks, Op Art discs, & heraldic beasts rearranged into cheeky cartoons. Textures collide: vinyl, brocade, metal mesh, velvet, feathers. The body becomes animated typography, tall strokes followed by explosive curves. Sensuality is cocky rather than coy. Gwen knows the effect of a fitted coat, a bare length of thigh, a challenging stare; Alexei’s composure becomes the wall against which her sparks show brightest. Their desire operates through contrast, her tumult against his glacial timing, each secretly amused by the other’s refusal to surrender rhythm.
Twizzly’s outlaw fellowship also illuminates Gwen’s connections. She values comradeship with people who will join an impossible escapade, yet her proper community is broader than accomplices. The Monkees, Adelaide, Calvin, Linda, Ludlow, & Alexei supply different brakes, mirrors & accelerants. Calvin’s anti-establishment convictions give philosophical shape to rebellion; Gwen’s hereditary station makes their arguments deliciously barbed. She may agree that systems need remaking from below while objecting, with majestic cheek, to being personally included among the obstacles. His absurd warmth prevents politics becoming bloodless. BabyFace, conversely, shows chaos fused to cruelty, charm fused to violence, loyalty narrowed into a criminal perimeter. Gwen must never confuse exciting conduct with emancipatory conduct.
Her fears under the electric mask are boredom, confinement, ceremonial ossification, romantic predictability & the possibility that duty will calcify her into a portrait nobody living could bear at breakfast. She dreams of rule with motion in it: music in courtyards, artists disputing ministers, girls taught weapons, boys permitted tenderness, old laws examined beneath rude new light. The dream is generous, though method matters. Revolutions staged for royal amusement remain pageants. Her environmental, economic, & governmental studies must channel impulse into durable change. Twizzly supplies ignition; Espresso supplies calculation; Hollyberry supplies protection; Kouign-Amann supplies ethical oath; Rye supplies aim; Black Pearl supplies warning; Royal Margarine supplies public glamour; Golden Cheese supplies sovereign scale.
Twizzly Gummy Cookie closes the study because she gathers Gwen’s contradictions at their noisiest. Princess & rebel, scholar & brat, beauty & bruiser, hostess & menace, future institution & present disturbance, Gwen contains enough cross current to power a palace badly wired by Micky. Her ability is not chaos alone but vivifying disruption. She can make stale rooms breathe, force evasive people into truth, turn fear into laughter, & ceremony into living culture. Her weakness is believing every explosion constitutes liberation. Her final aesthetic resembles a medieval crown caught in a psychedelic stage light: ancient gold split into unruly colour, still recognisably royal, no longer obedient to one angle. That is why Twizzly represents her. Gwen’s best reign will not silence the voltage. It will teach the lightning where to strike, what to illuminate, & whom never to burn.

(Summary: Michael Keeps Four Souls Close to the Drumming of His Heart - Behind a Locket, Not a GeeGaw Bauble of Cheap Tin)
(Note: I Wrote More Sentimental Fluff)
🍎🍑🍌
Michael kept the thing hidden where no roving hand, no landlord with a snoop’s appetite, no fool with a pickpocket’s itch, could come upon it unless he first pressed a palm flat against Michael’s own breast & felt the little secret resting there like a second, smaller heart with better manners than the first. It rode on a fine chain & lay tucked beneath his shirt, close against the warm plane of his sternum, where the heat of his body could keep the metal from turning mean with chill, & where each tattoo of blood through him might answer the minute hush of the mechanism sleeping inside. The locket was not some five-and-dime gewgaw, not a bit of rubbish cast in thin tin for schoolgirls with rouge on their collars and bubblegum on their tongues, but a proper treasure with old world gravity in it, a keepsake that looked as though it ought to have passed through dynasties, chapel smoke, railway compartments, mourning parlours, & velvet lined strongboxes before ever it came to rest against Michael’s ribs in 1960s Malibu, with the salt air coming off the Pacific & the sun bleaching every cheap thing in sight. Elk-tooth ivory formed the principal body, creamy & faintly lustrous, its surface worked into the façade of Saint Apollonia with such scrupulous miniature cunning that a man might near forget he was gazing at something scarcely larger than his palm. Her little countenance held that austere church window calm which could make a bruised soul behave for half a second. Beneath the ivory there sat a base of Rocky Mountain gold, not gaudy, not brassy, but deep & honeyed, the kind of gold that recalled old wedding bands, candlelight, & a field at sundown when the wheat takes on a sacramental burnish. About the saint, in no strict wreath & no regimented pattern, daffodils had been raised in high relief, each trumpet & petal modelled with a botanist’s care and an enamoured fool’s patience, so that the flowers appeared to cradle the ivory from every quarter at once, as though spring itself had gathered close & elected to keep watch. Michael liked that untidy clustering. It looked true to life. Love, in his estimation, never arranged itself with military neatness; it crowded, leaned, overlapped, breathed warm in the dark, & kept strange hours. This little contrivance did the same. Even closed, it possessed a hush of consecration, yet also the private sweetness of something thumbed often, kissed once or twice in weakness, & hidden in haste whenever footsteps came along the hall.
Within it there lived not merely images but music, & the tune imprisoned in its tiny works was one that had entered Michael so early he could hardly tell where memory ended & marrow began. When the spring engaged and the mechanism woke, the notes of ‘Oh, Come Angel Band’ came forth in a sound delicate as spun glass yet somehow warm, as though a child’s toy had swallowed a church service, a back porch dusk, & a deathbed hymn all in the same mouthful. It tinkled rather than rang; it sighed rather than proclaimed. The air around it never filled in a grand, brazen fashion, but seemed combed fine, thread by thread, until the room stood softly altered. That melody belonged to his momma before it belonged to him. It belonged to the evenings when she would lean over him with cigarette smoke lingering in the hem of her hair, her fingers cool from typewriter keys or dishwater, & sweep his unruly dark locks back from his forehead & ears with a tenderness so unadorned it could knock the wind from a boy harder than any fist. It belonged to those cramped rooms where bills bred like roaches in drawers & supper might be scant, yet her humming could still turn the whole shabby place into something almost stately. Sometimes she breathed the tune under her breath while hunting for a bobby pin, while mending, while counting coins, while staring a little too long at nothing. At other times she set down her handbag, crossed to the oak record player that had come to them secondhand & scarred by another family’s years, & let her attention settle upon it with a solemnity usually reserved for altars and legal documents. The oak cabinet, hand-me-down though it was, had a woody, resinous smell that mingled with furniture polish, warm dust, & a faint singe from tired wiring. The record player never sounded wholly pure; it had a burr in it, a grain, a crackle along the edges, & Michael loved it the more for that roughness, because it made every tune feel hard won. The hymn would rise, & his momma, coiffed as neatly as circumstance allowed & painted for the world with darkened lips that made her smile look both clever & heartbreakingly weary, would become for the space of three minutes neither harried secretary nor tired single mother but something nearer a votive flame dressed in a church suit. The locket kept that world in miniature. Every turn of its hidden works brought back the blue shadowed rooms, the pale washcloths, the smell of starch & parfume & ink ribbon, the soft drag of her thumb over his brow, the queer miracle by which privation & affection managed to occupy the same square footage without killing one another.
When the clasp yielded & the locket opened, it did not part into two plain halves like an ordinary sweetheart token. It unfolded into four delicate hearts, each heart a separate chamber, each chamber holding one sovereign attachment, until the whole thing resembled a secret paper flower cut from metal & sentimental memory. The first heart kept his momma. The photograph had gone soft with years of handling, black & white worn almost velvety with age, the corners fraying as though time itself had worried them between anxious fingers. Yet her image still held. Her inky black hair was arranged for Sunday church with that exacting, lacquered polish women of grit could contrive even when the week had mauled them. The pale horn-rimmed spectacles sat on her face with clerical precision, framing eyes the colour of coffee taken black in hue but sugared all the way through in feeling, dark & deep & bright with that rare sort of intelligence which could cut nonsense to ribbons without ever ceasing to care for the fool producing it. Her mouth, painted dark, did not grin in any broad Hollywood fashion. It made instead that small, self-possessed smile which hinted at wit held in reserve, at fatigue borne without theatrics, at devotion never advertised because advertising cheapens the article. There was secretary-sharpness in her carriage, a trim competence, a posture made from file cabinets, church pews, bus stops, & dogged perseverance. Yet Michael could not gaze long upon the tiny likeness without feeling the old domestic softness come over him, the particular ache produced by love too basic to ornament. He thought of milk heated in a saucepan late at night, skin forming on the top while the house breathed around them. He thought of pale blue terrycloth, laundered thin, wrapped about shoulders still damp from a bath. He thought of her voice when it dropped low & tired, of the heel of her hand against his fevered cheek, of all the little ministrations that had kept him in one piece when the world looked fully prepared to grind him into feed. In that first heart she remained neat, unspectacular in the way all true saints often are, & therefore all the more magnificent. Michael never kept her there from obligation. He kept her there because the architecture of himself had been drafted round her, & even now, in a beach town full of hot rods, stucco, surfboards, musicians, & clever wastrels, there were hours when he touched the closed locket through his shirt just to reassure himself that her face still lay within reach.
The second heart lay nearest his momma’s, & that placement had not come by accident, nor by any momentary fit of mooncalf sentiment, but by a reckoning Michael hardly dared speak aloud even to himself. Peter occupied that heart in a soft colourless photograph whose edges had curled a touch, not from neglect but from handling, because Michael, despite every effort to appear dry, capable, & ungiddy, was no better than some besotted schoolboy where Peter Tork was concerned. Peter’s smile in the little likeness did not blaze in a vulgar fashion; it arrived with gentleness, bright yet tender, puckish yet somehow beatific, like sunshine slipping from behind a bank of coastal cloud & laying itself across the sea in a broad satin road. The dimple showed plain, & to Michael that dimple possessed the force of a distress flare shot into a midnight sky over San Antone, a small indentation with enough authority to arrest thought clean in its tracks. Above the curve of that grin rode the beloved beauty mark, set near his lip like a deliberate dab from a painter’s brush, a detail so trifling in the abstract & so ruinous in practice that Michael sometimes reckoned he could spend a week considering nothing else & still not exhaust its charm. Peter’s teeth shone with that clean young brilliance peculiar to laughter, & his eyes, hazel & wide & autumnal, looked crinkled at the corners as though merriment had got there first & kindness had come along immediately after. Michael always thought Peter’s eyes did a queer alchemy. Whatever sourness entered their field seemed altered upon contact, swallowed whole & returned in some gentler form. Salt hazed Malibu light had haloed Peter’s hair in the photograph, those dirty blonde lengths turned by sea air into something between cashmere, corn silk, & beach grass at noon. The locks fanned along his jaw & nuzzled his lashes; even fixed on paper they appeared absurdly touchable. Michael knew the actual feel of them too well for his own peace, knew how silken strands could catch against fingers, how the fringe could cling to those lashes, how the scent there carried sun, shampoo, a trace of incense & weed, & the bright clean note of Peter’s own skin. His ears, salient & sweetly vulnerable, peeked half hidden from the fall of hair, & because Peter grew shy about them, Michael treasured them all the more with the ferocious protectiveness men reserve for the very features beloved people attempt to disguise. Beneath them the tiny ski-slope nose made its pert, elegant claim upon the composition, a nose Michael longed to trace with his forefinger from bridge to tip & finish with a foolish little boop, just for the private delight of it. Cinnamon freckles, those light scatterings Michael privately counted as though they were stars charted for navigation, crossed Peter’s face, ran down his throat, dusted the ears, & vanished beyond the frame into territories Michael’s imagination knew far too well. He had placed Peter nearest his mother because what he felt had already trespassed beyond camaraderie, beyond ordinary phileo, beyond any easy brotherly naming. Desire certainly moved in it, hot & sinful & restless, for Michael was no monk & Peter no abstraction. Yet the deeper current was more dangerous than lust, because it had in it awe, fidelity, tenderness, & that wild Shakespearean largeness which makes a man suspect he could gladly be unmade by another person if only that other would cup his face & call the ruin worthwhile. Peter, to Michael, was sunlight, sugar, & a sting of salt, & all of it lived folded inside that second heart like contraband grace.
The third heart kept Micky, & the instant one looked upon the photograph one understood why no calmer likeness could ever have served. The print had a slight tear in the upper left corner, a fuzzing at the edge, though the damage did nothing to damp the atmosphere of happy bedlam bursting from it. Micky’s grin spread wide as a pair of Klieg searchlights crossing above a première, all invitation & racket & impossible boyish cheek, the sort of grin that could start a scheme, a food fight, a fistful of trouble, or a whole evening’s hilarity before saner men had managed to sit down properly. His hair rose in a confusion of dark curls and frizz, a topsy-turvy briar patch with the energy of a tumbleweed cutting capers across some Yul Brynner Western set after the director had lost control of every horse in sight. The curls never merely lay there; even in a still photograph they looked as though they had opinions, appetites, & a plan for detonating something in the pantry. His hazel eyes had crinkled so tightly with merriment that only slivers showed, bright little crescents peering out from lids squeezed by delight, giving him the perennial juvenescence Michael alternately endured, laughed at, & loved with elder brother ferocity. There was manic sunlight in Micky’s face, a comic electricity, a sense that he had just finished pulling some surreal lark with chemicals, pulleys, slang, & half a sandwich, & considered the world monstrously improved for it. Michael, who pretended exasperation more often than not, cherished that photograph because it caught what words too often failed to manage about Micky. Beneath the frenzied clowning, beneath the appetite, the explosions, the misspellings, the crackpot brilliance, & the lunatic improvisations, there lived a warmth almost painful in its openness. Micky’s spirit rushed at life with both arms flung wide, & while that enthusiasm could scorch curtains, sink budgets, & reduce kitchens to a state fit for forensic examination, it also put light into rooms that had no business feeling cheerful. Michael knew the look of Micky asleep at odd hours with a biscuit crumb & a stain of orange juice on his shirt, the look of Micky laughing so hard he near folded in half, the look of Micky covering fear with nonsense because sense would let too much hurt show. All that clamoured from the third heart. The photograph seemed ready to bounce in its setting. Michael loved him there with the old Greek steadiness of brotherhood, though his version of brotherhood came armed with lectures, confiscations, spare cash quietly slipped where needed, & a perpetual readiness to yank Micky bodily out of whatever fool catastrophe he had tripped into this week. The little heart suited him because it made room for noise inside something delicate, which was Micky all over.
The fourth and final heart held Davy, & though it rested last in the unfolding, it did not for one second appear lesser than the rest. Michael had arranged no hierarchy of affection in the metal bloom, only a sequence, & Davy’s chamber possessed a glamour so immediate that it might have belonged in a cigarette case carried by a screen idol or a duchess gone improper. The photograph was black & white, sharp in its contrasts, with light & dark working upon his features in a manner that recalled German Expressionist chiaroscuro, all carved shadow, bright planes, and theatrical threat. Davy’s eyes were dark enough to merit the adjective Stygian in colouring, yet they held nothing deadened in their spark. Rather, they flashed with gasconade, moxie, & that nimble, streetwise audacity by which he could charm a room, taunt an enemy, & flirt with half the county before breakfast. His hair, thick & dark & handsomely ordered into its proper mop, lay with studied ease across his brow, while beneath it his brushy eyebrows seemed prepared at any moment to arch in mockery, invitation, or swift offence. The mouth in the photograph was pure Davy, the lower lip full & faintly pouty, the whole arrangement supple enough to look made for wisecracks, songs, cigarette smoke, kisses, & mutinous rejoinders. His teeth caught the light with almost indecent polish. That face drew devotees the way bright fairground music draws children, & Michael, who was as capable of irritation with Davy as with any breathing creature, knew perfectly well that magnetism in him was no accident & no empty vanity. Davy had built parts of himself out of pluck, theatre, hunger, & bravado, & the result was a figure at once dapper & dangerous, playful & deeply touchy, vain in spots yet game as a terrier when it counted. Michael kept him in that last heart with as much phileo as he lavished on Micky, though the quality of it wore a different cut, more smoke & sparring in the weave, more affectionate bickering, more little contests of nerve & language. Davy could needle the saintliness out of a stone monument, yet there were moments, private & unadvertised, when his courage showed plain, & Michael treasured those moments in silence because naming them might embarrass the little British peacock half to death. Thus the final heart shone with shadowed glamour & loyal affection both.
Altogether the locket formed not merely an ornament but a private reliquary of Michael’s chosen & given saints, his own pocket sized chapel of blood, yearning, memory, and hard won belonging. When closed, the four hearts folded back into one another with a precision almost tender, each image hidden yet not erased, each attachment pressed close to the next until momma, Peter, Micky, & Davy occupied the same warm darkness near Michael’s heart. That fact alone touched something deep & dangerous in him. His momma’s steadiness, Peter’s golden sweetness & ruinous beauty, Micky’s harum-scarum radiance, Davy’s theatrical nerve, all of it travelled with him beneath denim, wool, or stage cloth while the Pacific wind worried the shutters, while the Monkeemobile growled along the roads, while cheap coffee went cold at dawn after a gig, while laughter rose in the pad & quarrels sparked & music shook plaster dust from the rafters. Sometimes, late, when the others slept & the sea made its long velvet racket beyond Malibu, Michael would draw the locket out into his palm. The gold would have taken his warmth by then. The ivory saint would glow pale in the low light like a tiny moon carved by a jeweller with ecclesiastical fancies. He would thumb the catch, let the little hearts flower open, and for a minute or two feel less adrift in the century. Each face would look back in its separate fashion, & he, who could shoulder more than was sensible & confess less than was wise, would permit himself that private softness. No audience, no wisecrack, no stage persona, no masculine bluff entered there. Only the plain fact of love in its several species remained, tucked against a man who too often fancied himself difficult to cherish. The locket contradicted that bleak notion every time its music stirred. ‘Oh, Come Angel Band’ would glimmer out, delicate as holy lace & stubborn as memory, & Michael would know, with a certainty that struck deeper than doctrine, that his life, ragged though it might appear from the outside, had been threaded through with graces after all. They were not tidy graces. They arrived with freckles, with spectacles, with fraying photograph corners, with curls, with pouts, with jokes, with trouble, with hunger, with sea salt, with hymn tunes & harsh years. Yet they were his, each one. He kept them by his heart because that was where they had already made their home long before the jewelled contraption ever clicked shut. The music box locket merely gave the truth a body small enough to hide in a shirt & strong enough to survive being carried through all the bright, vulgar, beautiful racket of the age.
(Note: I went a bit overboard with Gwen’s Pokémon breakdown; I hope y’all can get through it; I’m dreadfully sorry)
Princess Gwen cannot be bottled into one tidy emblem, honey chile, because she is not one tidy woman. She is a whole royal procession thundering through the gates at once: trumpet, cavalry, gossip, parfume, account books, silk banners, sharpened arrows, & one scandalously loud opinion on everybody's shoes. Her likeness to Michael supplies the tall Texan architecture, the oil dark brown eyes, the dry intelligence, the hard headed command, & that vocal register which can leap from pitchy brass to an ominous contralto whenever her temper draws its sabre. Yet Gwen carries her own sovereign weather. Long tow-coloured hair turns the familiar face into something heraldic & sun struck; gold, green, yellow, pink, & purple make her palette neither demure nor accidental, but calculated for spectacle. She expects a room to notice her, &, by thunder, the room generally does.
These 8 Pokémon therefore represent not 8 repetitions of the same quality, but 8 chambers in the same palace. Serperior occupies the throne room, where noble bearing, authority, & chilly discernment reign. Galarian Rapidash belongs to the royal stable & the woodland road, joining horsemanship, pride, colour, speed, & martial courage. Jellicent haunts the state barge & the drowned treasury, exposing the grandeur, possessiveness, beauty, & cruelty hidden beneath courtly finery. Gothitelle presides over the observatory & council chamber, where scholarship, prediction, strategy, & grave imagination become instruments of rule. Aromatisse commands the dressing room, the ballroom, & the social salon, ruling through scent, costume, mood, & theatrical feminine power. Pheromosa stalks the mirrored gallery as Gwen's dangerous vanity, impossible speed, disdain, physical elegance, & brittle susceptibility to a well placed blow. Scream Tail storms the banquet hall, carrying her volume, comedy, impudence, ancient royal ferocity, & startling sweetness. Floragato finally slips through the private garden, all nimble wit, cheek, artistry, cultivated beauty, dexterous weaponry, & the half grown uncertainty of an heir not yet seated upon the throne.
Taken together, the company is right on the beam. It admits that Gwen's virtues & vices spring from the same vigorous root. Confidence can become condescension; candour can turn cruel; taste can harden into vanity; leadership can sour into command for command's own sake. Still, the better grain remains. Beneath the snobbery lies discipline. Beneath the racket lies courage. Beneath the pampering lies an education formidable enough to govern a kingdom. Beneath the selfish flourish lies a heart capable of loyalty to Alexei, affection for her friends, & decisive care when the chips are down. That is why these creatures fit her so closely: each one is lovely, dangerous, clever, or comic in a manner that refuses to apologise for occupying space.
🐍 Serperior
The Green Sovereign: majesty, judgement, & the cold stare of command
Grass type • “Regal Pokémon” • Solar energy • Commanding gaze • Overgrow / Contrary
Serperior is Gwen upon the throne, long-bodied, lofty, beautiful, & possessed of the conviction that lesser creatures ought to compose themselves before entering its presence. Its very title, the Regal Pokémon, fits an heir educated from infancy for succession, diplomacy, government, finance, ethics, & war. Serperior does not bustle or wheedle; it surveys. That magnificent, withholding composure reflects Gwen's confidence, haughtiness, cleverness, and instinctive expectation of obedience. Her wit often works in the same fashion as Serperior's stare: one level glance, one clipped remark, & some poor cat across the chamber begins wondering whether his collar, ancestry, & entire philosophy of life have been found wanting. Yet Serperior's reserve also represents the leader Gwen can become when she quits playing the pampered bird & accepts the weight of office. She possesses detail, determination, & the capacity to make decisions without dissolving into panic. That dog will hunt.
The resemblance is not literal, but heraldic. Serperior's green body, gold curlicues, pale undercolour, high collar, & red-eyed severity could be translated directly into one of Gwen's court ensembles: emerald velvet, yellow-gold braid, ivory gloves, a tall sculptural collar, & a jewelled mouth set for criticism. Green & gold stand foremost among her favourite colours, while the leaflike flourishes suggest royal insignia, embroidered standards, & the botanical motifs of an old dynastic seal. Serperior has almost no need of limbs; its silhouette travels through pure line, a grand serpentine arabesque with the economy of a master draughtsman's stroke. Gwen, trained in drawing & obsessed with fashion, would appreciate such controlled design. Nothing dangles without purpose. Nothing begs for approval. The creature is all polished contour & imperial punctuation.
Serperior takes in sunlight & magnifies that energy within its elongated frame, a handsome emblem for Gwen's habit of converting education, attention, & ceremony into authority. She absorbs history, language, mathematics, economics, & political custom, then releases the gathered force as argument, command, or strategy. The ability Contrary suits her contrariness with almost indecent neatness: attempts to humble her may furnish fresh hauteur; criticism can make her stand taller; opposition frequently sharpens rather than softens her tongue. Overgrow supplies another echo, for Gwen becomes most formidable when cornered. Her usual leisure may look carefree, even indolent, but a true threat to her kingdom, Alexei, or her friends would wake a more severe strength. Serperior's habit of reserving its utmost effort for worthy adversaries also matches her selectiveness. She is too vain to squander full splendour upon every bore in a cheap necktie.
Its strengths are command, speed, poise, endurance, & psychological pressure; its fault is pride raised to an architectural principle. Gwen likewise risks mistaking intimidation for respect & breeding for merit. Her truthfulness may become incision without mercy, & her standards may leave little breathing room for gentler temperaments. Grass symbolism adds a necessary correction. A crown is not merely metal; it is stewardship over living soil. Serperior's solar nature points towards Gwen's environmental studies & the duty of a future monarch to preserve land, water, crops, animals, & ordinary lives beyond palace walls. Thus Serperior represents both what she already is and what she must learn: a sovereign may tower over the forest, but without the forest the sovereign has no realm.
🦄 Rapidash (Galarian)
The Pastel Warhorse: pride, romance, speed, & sharpened grace
Psychic / Fairy • Proud & brave • Psychic power in its mane • Pastel Veil • Horn-borne Psycho Cut
Galarian Rapidash catches Gwen at her most gallant & most gloriously pleased with herself. Proud, brave, swift, & rather too aware of its own beauty, it belongs beside a princess who can discuss military history in 3 languages, loose an arrow from horseback, & still complain that the campaign dust has spoilt the line of her boots. The creature's courage prevents the choice from becoming merely decorative. Gwen is not only a drawing-room peacock; she has studied war & leadership, & there is steel beneath the satin. Rapidash's refusal to creep reflects her bluntness. It charges. Gwen's speech behaves much the same way, especially when her deep angry register arrives & everybody within earshot discovers that the royal bird has become a cavalry officer.
No other selection mirrors Gwen's tow-headed splendour so directly. Galarian Rapidash bears a white body, a long curling mane streaked with pink & blue, violet hooves, & a spiralled horn; Gwen carries long pale hair, a taste for pink & purple, and the height to make court dress look built rather than merely worn. Its pastel colouring could have stepped out of a go-go boutique & cantered through a rococo tapestry on the same afternoon. That union of old world heraldry & bright youthful fashion is precisely Gwen's aesthetic province. She is a royal antiquity with a 1960s hemline, a dynastic portrait that has discovered false lashes, saturated colour, & a wicked little grin. Rapidash's airy gait supplies the final touch: elegance not as stillness, but as motion.
Gwen's horsemanship makes this correspondence plain as day, yet the deeper resemblance lies in controlled velocity. Galarian Rapidash concentrates psychic power through its mane & horn, turning beauty into a weapon capable of piercing metal. Gwen likewise uses cultivated accomplishments rather than brute force alone. Speech, etiquette, languages, diplomacy, calculation, & theatrical presentation are her horn: polished courtly faculties directed at a chosen target. Pastel Veil, which protects against poisoning, evokes her resistance to whispered venom, scandal, & the poisonous little courtesies of political life. She may enjoy gossip, but she is far less likely than a greener soul to be destroyed by it. Her habit is to ride through social undergrowth at speed, leaving slower minds tangled behind her.
Rapidash embodies courage, mobility, romance, & psychic precision, but its pride can edge into touchiness. Gwen shares that fault. She is liable to interpret correction as insolence, ordinary delay as incompetence, & a difference of taste as evidence of barbarism. The Fairy element suits her charm & sweetness when she elects to reveal them; the Psychic element suits the scholarship & quickness beneath the ribbons. Symbolically, the unicorn has long belonged to purity, rarity, untameable feminine power, & royal pageantry. Gwen complicates the purity with crude jokes & a tongue capable of blistering varnish, which makes the emblem better rather than worse. She is no meek nursery unicorn. She is a pastel charger with a lance on its brow, pretty enough for a powder compact & dangerous enough for the battlefield.
🪼 Jellicent
The Drowned Court: luxury, appetite, possessiveness, & ghostly sovereignty
Water / Ghost • Mostly seawater • Sunken ships as lairs • Cursed Body • Courtly male & female forms
Jellicent represents Gwen's darker royal undertow, the portion of her character that smiles beautifully while expecting the whole sea lane to clear. Its floating composure, territorial appetite, & courtly silhouette fit a woman who is charming, demanding, selfish, & occasionally cruel. Gwen can be caring, certainly, yet she can also regard people as pieces in a pageant arranged for her convenience. Jellicent turns that tendency into maritime fable: splendid creatures presiding over drowned halls, gathering near the surface with patience enough to make danger look like ceremony. The selection does not declare Gwen monstrous. It acknowledges that rank can tempt a clever heir into possession, & that the urge to protect a kingdom may curdle into the urge to own everything within reach.
Jellicent resembles an underwater monarch draped in bell shaped robes, with ruffs, frills, curling appendages, & a crownlike head. Its male & female forms carry different courtly faces, which suits Gwen's love of fashion, performance, & social codes. Purple, blue, pink, & white move through its palette, answering several of her chosen colours while adding the pearly pallor of moonlit water. One may imagine Gwen in a vast evening gown whose skirt swells like a jellyfish bell, sequins winking like harbour lamps, the bodice cut with ghostly severity. The beauty is luxurious but queerly unsettling. That is Gwen all over when she lowers her voice: the fine profile remains, the jewels remain, but the room acquires the temperature of deep water blackened at its centre.
Jellicent propels itself by expelling absorbed seawater, converting its environment into movement, while Gwen similarly converts social atmosphere into momentum. She can read a room, gather its vanity, fear, boredom, rivalry, & admiration, then ride those currents towards her object. Cursed Body makes contact hazardous; one injudicious attack may leave the assailant's chosen method disabled. Gwen's retaliation often has that flavour. Insult her in one fashion, & she will not merely answer the insult; she will make the offender afraid to try the same trick again. Water Absorb, where applicable, offers another likeness: emotional flood does not always drown her, because she can take force into herself and emerge replenished. Her habit of gossip also resembles Jellicent's drifting vigilance, for nothing moving near the royal surface escapes notice for long.
Jellicent's power lies in special defence, eerie patience, & the ability to punish rash contact. Gwen's equivalent strengths are memory, composure under ceremonial strain, & a tongue that turns another person's aggression back upon him. Yet Water & Ghost carry frailties: certain shocks strike hard, & the creature's stately drift lacks the immediate physical resilience of a fortress. Gwen's confidence can hide emotional susceptibility, particularly where love, succession, or public humiliation are concerned. Symbolically, Jellicent is the palace beneath the sea, a gorgeous court built from what has been lost. It reminds Gwen that monarchy inherits not only jewels & titles, but old wrecks, vanished lives, family errors, & political debts. A good ruler must know which treasures to preserve & which ghosts to release.
🎀 Gothitelle
The Astral Councillor: scholarship, foresight, severity, & beautiful dread
Psychic • “Astral Body Pokémon” • Reads stars & futures • Frisk / Competitive / Shadow Tag
Gothitelle is Gwen in the observatory after midnight, black skirts falling in tiered geometry, one hand upon a chart of state, the other dismissing a fool who has mistaken her fashion for frivolity. Its grave intelligence & cosmic imagination correspond to her education in history, science, social sciences, mathematics, finance, ethics, government, & diplomacy. Gwen's mind is quick rather than merely stuffed with lessons. She can connect facts, anticipate responses, & frame an argument with theatrical exactness. Gothitelle therefore represents the part of her snobbery that has earned at least some of its confidence. She has read the books, studied the ledgers, ridden the borders, & listened at council. The trouble, bless her heart, is that she may then presume she has read everybody else as easily.
Black tiers, white bows, purple skin, blue eyes, & red lips give Gothitelle the air of a Mod widow designed by an astronomer. The stacked silhouette recalls architectural fashion, op-art discs, mourning dress, & a royal court gown reduced to bold graphic masses. Gwen favours purple, & although black is not among her declared colours, she possesses the hauteur to wear it as a frame for gold, green, or shocking pink. Gothitelle's heavy lidded gaze also mirrors the expression Gwen might bestow upon a diplomat who has brought a poorly reasoned proposal & an even poorer cravat. Its beauty is not sunny. It is nocturnal, mathematical, & faintly funereal, a splendid complement to the brighter selections in her company.
Gothitelle is associated with reading the stars, perceiving distant futures, & presenting visions of cosmic endings. Gwen cannot literally foretell tomorrow, yet her training asks her to do the earthly equivalent: study precedent, recognise patterns, calculate consequences, & imagine what a present policy may become after 10 or 20 years. Frisk suits her observant, gossipy eye; she notices what people carry, what they conceal, & what their accessories accidentally confess. Competitive suits her pride under pressure, because opposition can increase her force rather than diminish it. Shadow Tag supplies the unnerving social likeness: once Gwen has fixed somebody with a question, he may feel there is no graceful exit until she has extracted the answer.
Its strengths are foresight, special resilience, control, & strategic interference. Gwen's are education, verbal speed, emotional nerve, & an ability to make ceremony serve policy. Her weakness appears when prediction becomes fatalism or judgement becomes imprisonment. A ruler who believes she already knows every ending may cease listening; a clever woman who can trap an opponent in debate may forget that persuasion outlasts humiliation. Gothitelle's visions are described as ethereal & beautiful even when they concern the universe's end, which neatly captures Gwen's dramatic streak. She can make catastrophe sound gorgeous. Symbolically, Gothitelle is the royal mind peering past the ballroom chandeliers into deep time, a warning that intelligence without humility may become its own elegant dungeon.
🧚♀️ Aromatisse
The Perfumed Salon: fashion, social alchemy, sweetness, and calculated offence
Fairy • “Fragrance Pokémon” • Sweet scents aid allies • Foul scents sap opponents • Aroma Veil
Aromatisse embodies Gwen's cultivated femininity, social theatre, & talent for turning pleasure into power. She is fashionable, dramatic, charming, fancy, & acutely aware that the senses govern a room before reason has found its chair. Scent, colour, fabric, voice, posture, & timing all belong to diplomacy's unofficial grammar. Aromatisse understands that grammar instinctively. It can soothe companions with sweetness or break an enemy's will through disgust, which is Gwen's conversational range in miniature: one moment honeyed courtesy, the next a remark so rank with contempt that the unfortunate recipient looks ready to crawl beneath the carpet. She is a gas when she likes you and a chemical incident when she does not.
With its pink body, purple face, feathery textures, curved black legs, & extravagant scent censer silhouette, Aromatisse resembles a boudoir ornament that has acquired opinions & excellent balance. Pink & purple sit squarely within Gwen's palette, while the plume like forms suggest powder puffs, false lashes, feathered sleeves, dance costumes, & parfume atomisers arranged upon a gilt dressing table. Its design is opulent, faintly comic, & unapologetically artificial. Gwen's beauty works in that register. She is not striving to resemble an untouched woodland nymph. She relishes construction: styled hair, chosen colour, disciplined gesture, jewels, acrylics, polish, & the grand little fraud by which fashion makes personality visible.
Aromatisse's command of fragrance corresponds to Gwen's command of atmosphere. She knows when a court requires sweetness, when a negotiation needs reassurance, & when an adversary must be made profoundly uncomfortable. Aroma Veil symbolises protection against taunts & mental interference, a fitting safeguard for a princess accustomed to scrutiny. Healer reflects the goodness beneath her vanity. Although she may be grating, spoiled, & selfish, she can bolster allies, tend morale, & show care when affection pierces the shell. Her training in manners & speech also belongs here, because etiquette is social perfume: invisible, pervasive, & capable of making difficult proximity bearable. Gwen occasionally applies rather too much.
Aromatisse's strengths lie in support, disruption, & sensory command. Gwen likewise excels at morale, presentation, social pressure, & the manipulation of tone. Her faults are excess & artificiality. She may confuse elegance with goodness, privilege with refinement, or disgust with moral judgement. The creature's offensive scent provides a frank emblem for her obnoxiousness: Gwen can foul an entire chamber's mood merely because one person has displeased her. Yet fragrance is also memory, intimacy, & invisible influence. Aromatisse symbolises the softer instruments of monarchy, those arts dismissed as trivial by dull men until a hostess, consort, princess, or diplomat rearranges the whole political evening without raising a sword. Gwen knows that talc powder & policy are not natural enemies.
🪲 Pheromosa
The Mirrored Blade: beauty, speed, disdain, & dangerous fragility
Pheromosa is Gwen's vanity stripped of every polite ribbon & given racing legs. It is aloof, unnervingly elegant, immensely fast, physically powerful, & so disdainful of contact that the surrounding world appears unclean to it. That last trait fits Gwen's snootiness with wicked precision. She can look at a commonplace object, coarse manner, or badly planned reception as though civilisation has suffered a personal betrayal. Pheromosa also reflects her sharp, quick, & cruel humour. It does not lumber into battle; it flashes across the floor, lands the blow, & leaves the opponent wondering whether beauty itself has slapped him. Gwen's best insults possess that velocity.
Tall, slender, pale, gold-accented, & almost transparent, Pheromosa carries the impossible proportions of a fashion illustration elongated for drama. Its antennae sweep like architectural hair, its limbs narrow into immaculate lines, & its whole body appears dressed in white silk, glass, & old gold. Gwen is as tall as Michael & crowned with long pale hair, so the visual parallel is immediate. Gold belongs to her favourite colours, while Pheromosa's neutral body would allow green, pink, yellow, or purple accessories to strike with royal brilliance. The creature's aesthetic is high fashion made predatory, not merely beauteous but authoritative, strange, & inaccessible. It is the look Gwen hopes to achieve when entering a room late on purpose.
Pheromosa moves at tremendous speed, attacks from physical or special angles, & can grow still more dangerous through Beast Boost after a victory. Gwen likewise gathers momentum from success. A sharp exchange won, a speech applauded, a difficult ride mastered, or a diplomatic opponent routed can make her almost unbearably radiant. Its pheromonal effect, which overwhelms others with awe & weakens their will to fight, translates readily into charisma. Gwen is charming even when exasperating, & confidence of her magnitude can make less certain people surrender before the contest has properly begun. The Fighting type honours her training for war & archery; the Bug type adds an alien precision, a reminder that her royal upbringing has made her habits fascinating yet not always ordinary.
Pheromosa is a duellist of glass: colossal speed & offence paired with frail defences. Gwen's social armour may prove similarly deceptive. She looks invulnerable because she attacks first, dresses magnificently, & converts embarrassment into sarcasm before anybody can detect the wound. Yet vanity creates tender places. Public rejection, romantic fear, failure before her father, or the prospect of disappointing a kingdom could strike more deeply than she would ever admit. Symbolically, Pheromosa is the peril of treating beauty as invincibility. It warns Gwen that admiration is not loyalty & speed is not wisdom. Still, it also honours her splendour. Some women enter history by behaving prettily; Gwen means to arrive like a blade thrown through a mirror.
📣 Scream Tail
The Royal Racket: volume, comedy, ancient ferocity, & concealed tenderness
Fairy / Psychic • Ancient Jigglypuff resemblance • Ferocious voice • Protosynthesis • High vitality & speed
Scream Tail represents Gwen before breakfast, during an argument, after a victory, at a dull banquet, or whenever silence has grown too pleased with itself. The name alone belongs to her grating, pitchy, carrying voice, yet the resemblance reaches beyond noise. Scream Tail is round, bright, apparently adorable, & furnished with sharp chompers, a splendid image for a princess who can be sweet one minute & savage the next. Its feral antiquity answers the old blood of monarchy; its comic resemblance to a familiar singing creature answers Gwen's playfulness & theatricality. She is loud, rude, funny, crude, dramatic, cheeky, & impudent, a whole brass section squeezed into one tall blonde lady.
Pink, pale yellow, red, & a touch of darker colour make Scream Tail a lively companion to Gwen's preferred palette. Its enormous hairlike tail resembles an exaggerated coiffure, part prehistoric plume & part fashion silhouette, while its fanged smile turns cuteness into threat. Gwen's own long tow-coloured hair could be arranged into a similarly outrageous crown for some ceremonial masque. There is pop-art directness in Scream Tail's design: circles, bold eyes, strong colour, one unforgettable appendage, & a face capable of changing from nursery sweetness to wild alarm in a blink. Gwen loves detail, but she also understands the worth of a single colossal visual gesture.
Scream Tail combines Psychic & Fairy qualities with exceptional vitality & speed. That mixture fits Gwen's mental quickness, social charm, stubborn endurance, & capacity to dominate through voice. Protosynthesis draws strength from harsh sunlight or a corresponding energy source, linking this ancient creature to the solar splendour already present in Serperior. Gwen flourishes under attention much as Scream Tail flourishes under blazing conditions. Its habit of confronting danger with a cry suits her bluntness; she does not always wait for a tactful interval. The singing ancestry implied by its resemblance also speaks to cadence, pitch, speech training, & her instinct for performance, even when the performance is an argument nobody requested.
Its strengths are stamina, speed, support, & disruption. Gwen can endure a long council, remember every slight, keep 3 conversational skirmishes in motion, & still arrive at supper prepared to review the flower arrangements. The fault is obvious: force of personality may become force without proportion. Loudness can bully. Comedy can humiliate. Truth can cease to enlighten & begin to maul. Scream Tail symbolises the primitive creature inside ceremonial refinement, the ancient dynastic will that snarls beneath lip-stain, powder blue shadow, silk, & manners. Yet its round sweetness prevents the emblem from becoming grim. Gwen has a good heart in the end. Her claws are real, but so is the impulse to cuddle those she loves, though she may deny it in a voice audible across 3 continents.
🌹 Floragato
The Green Trickster: wit, artistry, dexterity, & the unfinished heir
Floragato is Gwen in motion away from the throne: teasing, nimble, creative, clever, stylish, & just troublesome enough to keep solemn people from growing comfortable. It represents the cheeky, sassy, snarky, playful heir rather than the completed monarch. Floragato's intelligence & dexterity suit a woman trained across languages, drawing, science, finance, mathematics, archery, & riding, yet its youthful posture admits that knowledge is not the same as maturity. Gwen may possess a formidable curriculum while remaining bratty, pampered, & impulsive. That contradiction is the juice of the choice. Floragato knows a great many tricks; Serperior knows when not to perform them. Gwen is travelling between the two.
Green fur, a pale face, pink accents, a dark mask, & a flower bud ornament make Floragato almost indecently well matched to Gwen's colours & taste. It resembles a masked court performer, a garden duellist, or a Mod dancer who has wandered into a royal topiary. The collarlike leaves & flower bud offer botanical jewellery; the black facial shape supplies graphic drama; the upright body carries feline grace without surrendering mischief. Gwen's long blonde hair differs in colour, but the creature's groomed ruff & deliberate silhouette parallel her concern with presentation. Floragato does not merely have fur. It styles an entrance.
Floragato conceals a vine beneath its long fur and swings the hard flower bud with yo-yo like control. This is Gwen's combination of ornament & weapon in one perfect device. Her manners, beauty, language, & fashion appear decorative until she uses them with tactical accuracy. The vine also evokes archery's demand for eye, hand, rhythm, tension, & release. Its fur hardens into needle points according to mood, a charming physiological equivalent of Gwen's anger: the visible lady remains the same, but every surface suddenly advises against touching. Protean reflects her adaptability across languages, disciplines, & social settings, while Overgrow recalls the strength that appears when pressure closes in.
Floragato's strengths are agility, ingenuity, concealment, timing, & flair. Gwen's are much the same, especially in conversation & the rapid use of learned skills. Its weaknesses arise from incompletion & temperament. It may rely on tricks when plain steadiness would serve better; Gwen may rely on charm, ridicule, or rank rather than undertake the dull labour of patience. The flower bud symbolises potential not yet opened. As next in line, Gwen is exactly that: cultivated, armed, colourful, & not fully in bloom. Floragato therefore makes the most hopeful final emblem. It contains the snob, the artist, the warrior, the gossip, the comedian, & the future sovereign in one green figure, balancing upon the threshold between delightful nuisance & accomplished queen.
👑 The Eightfold Royal Portrait
No single Pokémon could bear Gwen's entire crown without getting a crick in its neck. Serperior grants the authority; Galarian Rapidash supplies the cavalry splendour; Jellicent reveals the possessive & ghost haunted underside of privilege; Gothitelle gives scholarship & strategic sight; Aromatisse governs fashion, morale, & social scent; Pheromosa crystallises vanity, speed, & vulnerability; Scream Tail carries the racket, comedy, sweetness, & feral old blood; Floragato preserves the playful, unfinished heir still learning how to make talent serve duty. Together they form a complete royal cabinet, though perhaps not a quiet one.
The strongest overall representation is Serperior because Gwen's succession, bearing, colour palette, pride, & potential stewardship stand at the centre of her identity. The most intimate visual match is Galarian Rapidash, through pale flowing hair, height, pink-purple finery, horsemanship, bravery, & aristocratic self-regard. The most psychologically revealing is Pheromosa, for it catches the secret tenderness behind defensive perfection. The funniest & most immediately recognisable is Scream Tail, which could announce Gwen's arrival without benefit of a herald. Floragato, however, may be the truest emblem of her present life. She is not yet the final sovereign. She is the flower bud on the hidden cord, clever enough to strike, pretty enough to distract, & still deciding what sort of bloom the kingdom shall receive.
Leavanny makes the finest possible heraldic creature for Michael because its tenderness is never idle. It sews. It wraps. It arranges the world so that the shivering, the hungry, & the easily bruised may continue another day with a little more comfort than before. That is Michael to the marrow. He is not a loud lover, not a fellow who strews sentiment about the room merely to hear it chime. He cooks. He mends. He folds. He straightens. He puts the kettle on before anyone has thought to ask. He sees a frayed cuff, a skipped meal, a trembling lower lip, & his answer is not rhetoric but handiwork. His devotion has hands.
There is, too, something almost domestic-sacramental in Leavanny that suits the private province Michael builds with Peter. Their attachment feels stitched rather than declared, fashioned from bed linen, shirtsleeves, tucked-in gestures, drowsy grooming, & the close grammar of two bodies that have learnt one another by touch. Love in Michael is shelter made tangible. It is the quilt laid over a sleeping shoulder when the Pacific air turns mean after sundown. It is the shirt repaired without mention. It is the room made steadier than the outer world has any right to be. Leavanny therefore becomes not only care, but crafted safety, that rare & beautiful business by which affection is turned into structure.
🐉Drampa
Drampa catches the contradiction at Michael’s centre with almost unnerving neatness. At first glance there is age in him, though he is young: a dry patience, a gravity, a look as though some inward weather has been passing over him for years & has left its marks in hushes, not boasts. Yet beneath that settled surface lies a protectiveness so severe it borders upon calamity. Drampa is famous for gentleness toward the small & the harmless, then for a violence fit to level a brute who dares lay hands where he ought not. Michael carries exactly that voltage.
This matters because his softness is never flimsy. It does not wilt under pressure. Rather, it hardens into a blade whenever cruelty crosses the threshold. He is the sort of man who might stand half-lidded & sardonic through an hour of nonsense, then become ferocious in a blink if a child is frightened, if Peter is cornered, if somebody weaker is chosen for sport. In the bright cruelty that can lurk beneath the charm of beach town nights, that quality becomes almost mythic. Drampa therefore names the old souled guardian in him, the individual who may appear composed, even whimsical at the edges, until wickedness gives him cause to show his teeth. Then mercy itself turns into wrath.
🪵Gogoat
Gogoat belongs to Michael for subtler reasons than mere sturdiness. Its gift is attunement. It reads emotion through pressure, balance, & contact, answering not speech but the living language of grip, weight, breath, & trust. Michael loves in much the same fashion. He is not, by nature, florid in confession. He can grow shy where his feeling runs deepest. Yet once somebody has crossed the guarded distance & been let in, he becomes uncannily responsive. He notices the shift of a shoulder, the thinness in a voice, the way exhaustion drags at a gait. He reads what others miss.
In his bond with Peter especially, that quality acquires a near telepathic shimmer. Their closeness is built not on spectacle, but on bodily knowing: who needs touch, who needs silence, who needs a joke, who needs protecting from his own fretful mind. Gogoat’s symbolic force lies in that quiet synchrony. Michael may stumble over a declaration, may even hide behind a drawled jest when his heart is too exposed, yet his body tells the truth before his mouth does. He comes near. He steadies. He adjusts his pace to another person’s hurt. Thus Gogoat speaks to the deeply physical intelligence of his care, a form of love less like a speech from a bandstand & more like two figures moving through the same room without collision, each already accounting for the other.
🐴Mudsdale
Mudsdale is Michael in his labouring aspect, & it may be the most mercilessly exact emblem of the lot. This is not merely a horse with Western flavour hanging off it. It is burden sanctified through endurance. It is the creature built to bear more than should ever be laid upon one back, & to keep going anyway with a grim, unadvertised dignity. Michael is forever becoming the ballast in any room he enters. He minds the money. He minds the meals. He minds the practical sorrows, the broken machinery, the late rent, the emotional squalls, the thousand absurd emergencies of communal life.
There is bruised nobility in that, but the bruise must not be ignored. Mudsdale symbolises not only strength, but the melancholy cost of being the dependable one. In a ramshackle Malibu household full of music, clutter, lustreless bills, & boys apt to set the air alight with fresh nonsense, Michael becomes the one who keeps wheels under the carriage. He does it without much vanity. He does it because someone must. That makes Mudsdale perfect for him: powerful without showiness, faithful without fanfare, & made almost grand by plain work. If one wanted a single image for Michael’s care, one could do worse than this heavy, steadfast creature moving through difficult ground with the whole wagon of other people’s needs behind it.
⚔️Gallade
Gallade catches the knightliness in Michael, though his brand of chivalry is never lacquered into prettiness. It comes with edges. He can be courtly in the most startling moments, suddenly gentle, suddenly precise, as though some antique code had risen in him unbidden. Yet he is no ornamental cavalier. The instant danger presents itself, grace turns tactical. Gallade embodies that marriage of refinement & force, of poise & the capacity for ruin. Michael has it in spades.
What makes this match especially rich is that Gallade is elegant, & so is Michael in ways people often overlook. Because he is gangling, practical, & apt to hide behind deadpan mischief, one might neglect the fineness in his movement. Yet it is there in his hands, in the measured way he crosses a room, in his stage restraint, in the dancerly economy with which he seems to save energy even while using it. Under the grease & denim lives a sharply aesthetic creature who notices line, balance, & effect. Gallade therefore names him as guardian knight, yes, but also as a man whose violence, when roused, comes sheathed in control, & whose tenderness is made more striking by the steel lying just beneath it.
🏜️Xatu
Xatu suits Michael because it carries stillness like an omen. One looks at it & feels that it has been listening to time itself, neither wholly in the present nor wholly outside it. Michael has that quality. He can fall so quiet he becomes eerie. His calm is never merely restful. It has depth under it, old hurt under that depth, & something watchful coiled lower still. He often gives the impression of knowing more than he intends to speak, of having already measured the weather & its damages while others are still laughing in the doorway.
This gives Xatu a special resonance for the haunted side of him. There is grief in Michael, & not the tidy grief one wears at funerals, but the sort that settles into posture, into habits of attention, into the instinct to scan every room for danger before sitting down. Xatu symbolises that burdened perception. He is not a bringer of doom. He is a witness to it, a sentinel made uncanny by too much seeing. In the glare of California daylight, surrounded by surfboards, radios, motorcycles, & foolishness, Michael remains the figure with dusk at his shoulder. Xatu captures the mystic hush of that contrast: an individual standing stock still in the salt glare, looking, listening, carrying history in his bones like contraband.
🐾Stoutland
Stoutland speaks to the part of Michael that makes everybody else safer the instant he enters the room. There is paternal warmth in it, though not a smothering kind. It is the warmth of being noticed, counted, shepherded, quietly looked after by somebody who pretends not to be fussing while fussing all the same. Michael has that gift. He may grumble. He may throw a sarcastic look over the rim of his coffee. He may mutter as though every fresh catastrophe were proof that civilisation has gone to the dogs. Yet he still keeps watch. He still herds the chaos toward supper, toward sleep, toward solvency, toward home.
For that reason Stoutland becomes the emblem of his household love. Not glamour. Not grand suffering. Not seduction. Household love. The kind that checks whether there is enough food, whether someone remembered a jacket, whether the money will stretch, whether a frightened person has been left alone too long. Michael’s affection is often least visible when it is most active, because it enters the world as management, provision, & orderly rescue. Stoutland honours that plain magnificence. It names the man others trust instinctively, the man children and old women take to at once, the man who can seem thorny at first blush yet turns out to possess one of the safest laps in the country. Guard-dog, father-hen, domestic Guard: all these live inside the symbol.
⚠️Absol
Absol belongs to the saddest chamber of Michael’s character, & precisely for that reason it is indispensable. It is so often mistaken for disaster when in truth it merely senses disaster coming & appears in advance of the blow. Michael is read in much the same false light. Because he is solemn, because he can be severe, because hurt has given him a weather-dark cast, he is apt to be misread as ominous by people too shallow to grasp what they are seeing. In truth he is often the warning, not the wound. He is the one who notices the crack in the ceiling before the plaster falls.
That symbolism opens onto something lonely in him. To carry foreknowledge, or even sharpened suspicion, is exhausting. To be right about danger too often is its own sorrow. Michael has the air of a man fashioned by catastrophe & therefore made prematurely alert to its footfall. Yet there is mercy in that alertness, for he does not hoard what he knows merely to feel clever. He uses it to spare others where he can. Absol therefore becomes misunderstood mercy, the shield cast as menace by fools, the dark creature on the ridge who is not bringing the storm but bracing for it. If Leavanny is Michael at the sewing table & Mudsdale is Michael under the yoke, Absol is Michael alone with his vigilance, carrying warning like a lantern no one thanks him for until the lights go out.
Taken together, these 8 do not sketch a single note hero. They build a man of shelter & strain, wit & watchfulness, restraint & buried ferocity, a boy as fitted to mend a hem or fry an egg as to bare his teeth at any bully fool enough to threaten what he loves. In the strange, bright theatre of Malibu, Michael emerges not as a cardboard cowboy nor as a romantic abstraction, but as something far finer: a workhorse with prophetic eyes, a knight in garage grease, a seamster of safety, a warning bell mistaken for thunder, & a lover whose surest declarations are made with his hands.

(Note: I know you probably don’t believe me, but I’m related to the Stuart’s, Plantagenets, & my auntie was Jane Seymour. I mean we can track our family to William the Conqueror (1066) & even further through time into Rome. Hell, I’m even named after Queen Adelaide who was married to William IV, a Hanoverian king. I’ll have to pull out all the research & paperwork one day & share it here if y’all are interested? My family is LARGE & always seemed to be in power until my great-great-great grandmother (a Rockefeller) decided to marry for love & now we don’t have the dosh! Damn it all! 🤣)
