Chapter 2
Kanashi stood in the elevator listening to the music in it. For the brief time he was in it he swore he new the melody but he couldn’t remember it right off hand. The elevator doors opened and Kan stepped out. He saw a few offices but also what looked like a lot of different recording rooms. Seems there were a lot of people hired here. He followed the signs that lead to the meeting room he had heard about.
He opened the door to see a big conference room table in the room. He took a seat at on of the tables at the back of the room. He looked at his attire then around the room. ‘Jeez. I look way to out of place here.’ Kan thought. Sure he had some good clothes on but it’s the best he could have. His main jacket, which use to be his mothers , some black shorts, a gray shirt, and some shoes that seemed like something an anime character would wear on a road trip with some bros.
After about 15 minutes a man walked into the room and looked at Kanashi. “Are you the young man front desk mentioned?” The man said. He was dressed in a suit with some shades on. ‘Yup... definitely don’t belong her.’ Kan thought to himself before speaking. “That is correct. My name is Ka...” Before he could finish the man raised his hand. “Names can wait. We want to find out a few things first.” The man then sat down in the chair at the other side. ‘Of course... Why did I even come here? Rich assholes.’ Kan thought seeming a bit annoyed. “First. You are from the green district correct?” The man said looking at some papers. Kan was a bit shocked but looked down disappointedly. “...Yes... How did you..” The man raised his hand once more. “You said you were given a card. Can I hear you sing?” The man looked at Kanashi once more. Kan was getting annoyed at all his statements and questions getting cut off. “I will on one condition. Let me finish asking question and saying statements damnit.” Kan snapped at the man. The man smirked a bit before chuckling and seeming to write something down. “Fine. I will let you ask your questions and let you say what you want once you are finished singing.” The man put the papers down before snapping his fingers. The table moved to the side showing a small stage. “Well. Get on up there. Show me what you got kid.” Kan then stood up looking at this man. “Gladly.” He then walked onto the stage thinking a little bit. ‘What to sing... I’ve never had this much pressure placed on me to sing... Think Kanashi think damnit.’ Then it hit him and nodded. “Can I set up music first sir? It’s just what I do.” Kan asked. The man nodded while looking at him. “Go ahead. But don’t take to long.” Kan smiled before pulling his phone and setting up the music. He got in position before taking a deep breath and started singing his heart out. It felt like time stopped as he was singing. He was getting into this and it was becoming obvious as he was bouncing a bit to the tune.
After the one short song Kan was smirking a bit at the man. “How was that?” The man smiled a bit before writing something on the paper. “Not bad... not bad at all.” Kan was smiling as he said this. “So. Does that mean...” The man raised his hand once more. “Hold on there kiddo. I just some info now alright? Then we’ll start talking more on this. Now. Name and Profession.” Kan stayed on the stage clearing his throat. “Kanashi Oto... High School student.” Kanashi said as he looked at this man. “How old are you?” The man seemed to have jumped a bit at the mentioning of Oto but Kanashi didn’t seem to notice. “...Sixteen years old sir.” Kanashi stood there patiently. “Mhm... And... Is that your hair color?” The man pointed to Kan’s hair. “No sir... It’s normally black but I dye it for... reasons.” Kan looked to the side. Rebecca Oto’s favorite color was green and she let it be shown during Kanashi’s time with her. He dyed it to try and honor her memory. “I see. Any Family?” The man looked at Kanashi closely. “...I have an Uncle... My mother died when I was little and ... that bastard left me behind.” Kan seemed a little angry. “I see... I’m guessing that is your father.” Kan’s eyes seemed to have fire in them.“He isn’t a father... A father doesn’t abandon his son when he is left alone and being blamed for a crime.” The man raised his hand. “Look kid. I’m no therapist. Let’s not get into the family drama.” Kan tried to speak up but stopped himself. “...Fine.”
After a few more questions later the man stood up. “Now Kanashi would you please follow me.” Kanashi stood up and started to follow the man as he left the room. They seemed to be heading to a far room on the second floor. The man opened the door looking at Kanashi. “If you enter this room you are not allowed to speak about this to anyone. Ever. Once you enter you are hired. Do I make myself clear?” Kan seemed so confused. “What do you do? Sell drugs or something? You got me this far and I need this. I grew up on the green district so come on.” Kan seemed to be acting a little cocky. “...Alright then.” The man walked into the room where a few lights beamed down onto some masks. A few different ones were there but some seemed to be missing. Each of them labeled as a different bird. “..What’s with the... wait a second...” Kan figured it out as he then looked at the man. “This is...” The man looked at Kan. “I told you there is no going back now. This will be your life.” Kanashi looked back to the masks. “He understood where he was now. This was one of those Siren Companies. “Is everyone here a siren?” Kan said as he looked at the masks. “No. But they swore to secrecy so you will be safe here.” The man said calmly “And the police?” Kan said still looking at the masks. “You already have a bit of a criminal record here kid. Now pick one so we can get going.” The man snapped. He was getting annoyed with the constant questions. Kan looked over each mask one after the other. “...This one.” He picked up the mask looking at it. It felt... Like he had seen it before. “...” The man looked at him but smirked a bit. ‘He choose the same one as you Rebecca. Be proud. Your son is following in you and Michael’s shoes.’ The man thought to himself. “Alright then. From this point on you are known as Kanashi Oto. The Short-Eared Owl Siren. Primal codename: Garuda.”
