Michael Sauter’s “Film Review: Cloudy” Is as Clear as a Summer Sky

It takes a certain amount of skill to wring 823 words out of a topic as light as Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, but Michael Sauter proves himself up to the task with “Film Review: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2.” He does an admirable job, too, never letting the review get tedious and never indulging in groan-inducing food puns.

Sauter draws on his knowledge of the original Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and uses a comparison to it as a starting point for his review. From there, he engages in just enough recap to get the readers up to speed and lubricate their gullets for the main course: his astute observations on the strengths and weaknesses of this Cloudy sequel.

The layout of the review makes it easy to read it from start to finish without interruption. There is one image embedded in the review itself, and it is a small. It’s basically all smooth sailing from start to finish with a clean background and a font that does not strain the eyes.

Sauter is a critic who really knows how to make the most of what he’s given to work with.  Film Review: Cloudy puts a smart spin on a silly topic and proves to be an entertaining and informative review.

Michael Sauter’s “Film Review: Kick-Ass 2” Makes the Case That Lightning Hasn’t Struck Twice

In “Film Review: Kick-Ass 2,” Michael Sauter makes an effective case for why the sequel to Kick-Ass falls short of the original. By examining how the characters have grown (literally), the violence has intensified, and the tone has become a bit more uneven, Sauter proves he knows what makes one movie work and not the other.

Clocking in at nearly 1,100 words, one might expect “Film Review” to be bloated and unfocused, but it is quite the opposite. The text flows from paragraph to paragraph, with each break signaling the beginning of a new and salient point. Only occasionally does Sauter dip into the well of plot regurgitation, instead choosing to touch on the highs and lows of Kick-Ass 2 and form a picture of how the latter outweighs the former.

Could Sauter have made his point in less space? Perhaps. But other writers have said less with higher word counts. That Sauter manages to keep his reader’s attention through the entirety of his review is a testament to his writing ability.

“Film Review” is also blessedly free of grammatical or typographical errors, a trait sorely lacking in less professional reviews. At the same time, it is not stuffy or pretentious like the works being produced by some of the more prestigious publications. Sauter finds a happy middle ground between brevity and excess, making “Film Review: Kick-Ass 2” a thoroughly pleasant read.
