OKAY, honest opinions time people! What do you think of these two?
I have many thoughts and opinions so if you feel like reading my ramble, please do. If not, I’d still love to know what you think!
Obviously this is assuming that Cam and Indie actually give a relationship a go, we don’t know what’s been planned for them by the powers that be.
Whilst I love the idea of Cam finally having a relationship with someone (his character seems to be the only one who hasn’t had a romantic interest, aside from his crush on Jodie), I’m not sure why Indie is the person they settled for?
Don’t get me wrong, I think they’d be adorable together if that’s what’s planned - she’s awkward, he’s awkward and let’s face it, Cam’s basically a human golden retriever. He’d be an absolute gentleman and anyone would be lucky to have him as a boyfriend. I love both of their characters but I just think they’re an odd mix.
I love Indie’s character and I think she’s got a lot of growing to do before this series ends, but I’m not sure if Cam’s the right person for her, or that she’s the right person for him. I don’t think Indie’s story with her dad is over, and she’s in quite a delicate place right now considering she’s living off of the charity of someone who (we’re led to think) hates her. I also think she has to fix her relationships with her friends (especially Jan) before the series finishes, and I worry that she’s become ‘smitten’ with Cam because he’s kind and she’s not receiving a lot of that at the minute (Iain and Teddy are off with HART, Jan isn’t keen on her, Jacob is remaining painfully neutral).
As for Cam, he’s oblivious to Indie’s feelings at the moment (of course he is) but reading the spoilers for next week makes me think he’s going to find out in the next episode, if not soon after. Up until this point he’s given no indication that he feels that way about Indie (though until glasses-gate we had no idea she had a thing for him) and I worry that because he’s a nice guy he’d go along with it just to make her happy. That or he’d turn her down, thus possibly sending her into a further spiral of loneliness.
Either way, I have a horrible feeling that this relationship isn’t just a nice side-feature designed to add some lightness to an otherwise dark series. I think it’s supposed to fuel something further down the line and feed into the tensions building between the paramedics. I think all of them will be in the next series, but I think we’re going to have to witness all five of them at their personal breaking points before they come back together as the team we know and love.
Anyway, hopefully I’m overthinking things and they’re happy together! Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
