Event
Tomorrow is gonna be an exciting day as we are kicking off our first edition of Dalston Club gigs.
One of the bands playing will be Michael Tyrie and we asked him some questions so you can get to know him better.
1. Introduce yourself: where are you from? What do you do for life?
Originally from Perth, Western Australia, living in London for 2 and a bit years now. My money earner is an audio visual project manager job for a small av installation company
2. When did you start making music?
I started classical guitar lessons at 9 yo and I use to play around and improvise my own stuff. I lost interest in guitar and was more into basketball and skateboarding. Then about 13/14 yo I was introduced to nas' stillmatic, jay-z reasonable doubt, biggie and all other great hip hop and so I popped down to my local Dick Smith's ( the equivalent in UK is Dixons...) and bought a $15 microphone that you can plug straight into your computer using a 1/4 inch jack to 3.8mm jack adapter. Then I started trying to rap and sing along to free beats I downloaded on a particular website I can even remember the name of now! Later on I started making beats with sonic foundry ACID Pro and Fruity Loops.
3. Tell us about "Talking To Bow Garage", your first LP. How was the process? Did you record it yourself?
Yeah I recorded and mixed it myself. Some of those songs have been around for 2 years, others where sort of written really quickly over 1-2 months. The main idea behind these tunes were to create beat-driven, sample-laded music with pop vocal melodies which sound more structured and sampled, more like rap verses or vocal stabs and loops then traditional vocal performances that evolve and build from start to finish. I was rally inspired by Panda Bear, specifically how sonically he works in a boundless way dispite being a "solo" artist which worked well as I was exiled from the UK for 6 months last year haha! Of course there is some traditional song structure stuff on there too that made it on.
4. Did moving to London influenced "Talking To Bow Garage"? Did the English weather or music scene have anything to do with your style?
Yeah moving has been an influence definitely. The opening track National Rail was inspired by my commute from Stoke Newington to the city way back in 2012. In general, moving away or getting away is definitely something I'm interested in. I'm less sure about the weather influence haha perhaps subconsciously. And the music scene, only in so much as sporadically catching the odd gig but usually they were bands from other parts of the UK or abroad so yeah Im not sure about scenes, does London have a music scene? haha
5. How is your set up gonna be for Dalston Club gig?
I'll be running a guitar and vocals through a a trusty roland sampler, and recording loops and triggering off different beats and samples on the fly. Really looking forward to this one, should be radical! :) See Michael Tyrie playing live tomorrow Wednesday 21st of January at Dalston Club gigs. For more info here.

Meet Michael Tyrie.
Michael is not the typical solo man musician. His music surprises with the best of the recorded-in-his-room feeling with a great taste in mellow melodies.
As a good David Lynch movie, his just self-released album will transport you to dark hidden places where is very easy to get lost.
Listen to his debut album on the link.
Michael Tyrie will be playing at Dalston Club for free on the 21st of January 2015. Event link here.
