One person may be seriously injured, but recovers quickly. Another person may be less seriously injured, but is left in the throes of chronic pain. Still another receives no physical injury, undergoes no strain of muscular exertion, and yet becomes racked with neuromuscular pain. In a large measure, these individual differences may be assigned to differences in the nervous system’s reactions to stress.
