Art in the Stations: Michigan
My fifth stop in Art in the Stations is Michigan Station, overlooking Rosa Parks Transit Center. Connecting riders to nearby busses as well as MGM Grand Casino, Westin Book Cadillac Hotel, the McNamara Federal Building, and of course, the beloved Coney Island restaurants.
As you enter the station, a colorful mural named "Voyage" greets you above the elevators. Created by Detroit artist Allie McGhee, this piece reflects “the diverse energies existing in our environment: image, rhythm, light and motion.”
"On the Move" is a playful installation by Kirk Newman, featuring 14 bronze silhouettes running to catch the train. Each balancing a briefcase or handbag, these commuters are all in a hurry, and it's left to the viewer's imagination to determine their destination.
