*cackling* that aside, i’m halfway thru live and really, just waiting for the other shoe to drop. i know noh heekyung’s track record but so far, it hasn’t reached dear my friends level yet to me. china is releasing everything lately but this is wan qian’s year of dramas, yay! it’s still surreal how gotd flew under the radar then bam, she’s everywhere. i guess i’d see your thoughts re: fuyao when you get around to it.
Hopefully, I’ll actually get around to watching Live and understand what you’re referring to, though I’ll probably need like five rom-coms on the side. It caught my attention because one of those video bloggers based in China kept raving about it xD.
I know it’s not good, but I’m actually relieved at the SARFT being stringent about historicals this year because if not I wouldn’t have picked up (and really enjoyed!) Peace Hotel, not to mention avoiding more stress. Wan Qian has been around for quite awhile and did star opposite some very popular actors formerly, but I think she’s breaking into the mainstream in terms of dramas (as opposed to mostly receiving recognition for films)? Last year, too, she was quite liked as Xiong Qingchun in Game of Hunting with Hu Ge (but the show itself = not good). But all of those casting decisions were made like a year before we saw them on our screens, so...*scratches chin* GOTD was decently popular in China—Allen Ren’s career definitely took off, and now he’s basically doing lead roles only—but just the nature of Jingyao’s character...oh well.

Yep, I definitely see why Douban users are spurning this. But I keep seeing people post about it on my Facebook, too, so it’s all a bad case of FOMO. >:(
JKJK there are times where I am SO in the mood for a campy Mary Sue fantasy epic. Maybe it’ll be what I need to balance the more serious fare I’m watching in the future!

i’m honestly so hyped and ready to fangirl over deng lun in ‘sweet dreams’ but at the same time i’m keeping my expectations low just 'cause the plot sounds kinda meh to me and like you said, the episode count is a bit much for a rom-com -__-
100% agree! Cdrama lengths (because of the whole system where the production teams profit by the episode) are definitely a huge part of why I still mostly watch historicals—the modern shows that I do watch tend to be rather short, I think? Like both Women in Beijing and Women in Shanghai were only 20 eps each, Burning Ice is only 12 eps, etc.
