“Sorry to bother you,” she spoke, red lips curling up into a sweet smile as she took a cigarette and placed it between slender fingers. “Do you have a light?”

that’s michael, or mickey, as he like to be called. we hang out occasionally. he does most of the talking, which is perfect for me. i don’t have to say much. i can just listen. he seems like a decent guy, until you realize he’s connected to the mafia. he’s living in shayla’s apartment. i should stop saying that. she doesn’t live there anymore. she’s dead. murdered by fernando vera, and i helped him out of prison. i guess what i’m trying to say is that she’s dead because of me, because she was my friend.
sleep deprived eyes lingered on the laptop screen. a movie was playing, but elliot was too lost in his own head to pay attention. the smell of pizza had filled his entire apartment, and he had yet to take a bite.
speaking of friends, i think mickey wants us to be friends. is the word ‘friend’ starting to sound weird to you, too? anyway, he’s like a pop-up window, no matter how many times i click cancel he always comes back. maybe he’s lonely too.
