1. Describe your personality in 5 words.
Kristin: Lazy wine obsessed book hoarder
Camille: crazy workaholic vining book hoarder OR Crazy lazy motherfucking book hoarder.
2. Is family important to you?
Kristin: Growing up, I lived faraway from most of the family, which makes family gatherings very awkward for me. Everyone knows my name but it is not always a two-way street on my end. However, I do find that family is very important. It provides that sense of belonging and protection that comes with a family. Though there are many times I feel like an outsider to my family, we share a bond that we ourselves did not choose to have. My family comes in vast numbers and is overwhelming but I wouldn't change them at all.
Camille: I've grown up with the knowledge that family is always important. They're always first. Who are you without your family? That question can be different for many people, but for me it rings true. My family, as tough as they were on me, has taught me to stand up for myself and never to let anyone change me. Blame my headstrong and independent mother as well as my passionate and intelligent father. I learned it well from both of them. I've grown apart from my cousins but I still yearn to get to know them. I'm starting to and I'm kinda excited about that.
3. What would your last meal on this earth be? and why?
Kristin: Baked ziti with a side order of french fries. Those two things basically encompasses everything that is comforting to me. They are both childhood favorites. I could eat a full pan of baked ziti and large plate of fries, but I don't because of reasons which involve hours of self-loathing and failed attempts going to the gym. If this is my last meal on earth, well... No fucks are to be given.
Camille: Holy shit, it may be my mother's cooking. I can always tell you favorite meals, but without my mother's touch it means nothing to me. Other Filipino mothers may cook their dishes a certain way, but my mother does something with it that I absolutely love and I don't know what that is. There is that dish with coconut milk, tilapia, and bokchoy that my mother makes. I love coconut and that dish encompasses a lot of things that I have grown to love. Plus rice. That might be my last dish.
4. What kind of habits have you noticed about yourself that you absolutely hate to love, or love to hate?
Kristin: One habit I absolutely love to hate is that every time I wake up from sleeping or napping, I have to blow my nose. I have very bad allergies seasonal or not. A box/pack of tissues is a must-have any where I go. Branching off of that habit, I tend to blow my nose really loud. I can't help it. I got it from my father (or so my mother says).
Camille: A few. I hate that when I get obsessed with something (like a tv show) I GET OBSESSED. Such as Coffee Prince? Fuck I watched that in 3 days. That was with mandatory interruptions like showering, bathroom breaks, and work. Because hell I have to make that cash monayyy. Yeah, 3 days. I probably could have finished it in a day, with Netflix yelling at me asking if I was truly still watching. yes, Netflix, I still am watching obsessively - stop judging me. I also hate but love that I book hoard. I book hoard like the fucking apocalypse is coming. Thing is, I love discovering I have a book I was contemplating to buy. I then read it in absolute pleasure and satisfaction.
5. If you could swap souls with someone, who would you swap with and why?
Kristin: I consider myself to have an old soul, so someone with a younger soul will do. How does it feel to be naturally outgoing and sociable who can stay out until four o' clock and ready to go out the next day looking forward to being around people? Certainly, not me.
Camille: I think i'm satisfied with my soul. I've experienced the extroverted Camille and now i'm experiencing Introverted Camille. If anything, I want to swap with someone who has not experienced any horribly tragic events in their lives. Someone who is not too naive to the world, but is just living innocently and happily. I miss the innocence in my life sometimes - what I know taints my perspective at times. But, like I said, I have lived with it and accepted it. I feel satisfied with my soul and the future events I'm going to experience.
6. What is 1 book you would recommend everyone to read?
Kristin: Einstein's Dream by Alan Lightman. It's a novella that expands on different forms of time through the dreams of Albert Einstein before he became what we know him today. What if time is only in a span of one day? What if time is cyclical? Time is explained in such a profound and emotional way that it changes your perception on how you see the world and people. Time is only but a man-made invention. It can be warped and shaped into something that is tangible and intangible at the same time.
Camille: I absolutely love Lisa Genova. I tend to read books that are a bit sad just due to the fact that it gives me perspective. Lisa Genova Still Alice is a beautifullly written book about an intelligent professor who is slowly going through the symptoms of Alzheimer's. It sounds sad but it actually made me think about what was important in my life. It made me think about the way I look at things in my life. Things may be shitty now, but twist that perspective a little and it makes it all better. I can't continue without ruining everything, but it's a beautiful book. It's especially great for anyone that is interested in the medical field and mental illness.
7. Have you ever been made fun of for anything?
Kristin: My tendency of acting like an old man has been brought up many times. My love for golf and sleeping early are one of many qualities I share with a retired 70 year-old man or a middle-aged divorced woman with a penchant for wine and nice leather goods.
Camille: I'm always been given the whole, "you're so cute" phrase when I do something in anger. Sigh. Sometimes I'm not taken seriously unless I legit imagine daggers being physically thrown out of my eyes and into their skulls. I then look positively murderous. I am then taken seriously... others will take that as feisty and sexy. So, I kinda never win. But, I also am made fun of being a bit scatterbrained. I will fully own up to that. *blushes*
8. Do you believe in free will or fate and destiny?
Kristin: Camille and I have many discussions regarding this topic amongst other things, and we go on for hours and hours at a time. As much as I love to say I believe one more over the other, I cannot take a full stand to either one of them. Free will, fate, and destiny, in my opinion, are words/terms made up to shed light to the unreasonable. Our lives are something we are capable to take control of, but there are times where our lives are no longer in our hands. In the end, it's a little bit of both.
Camille: Oh god. Philosophical talk. I love these types of talks and I legit will circle this question for hours and repeat myself millions of times. Just out of habit, to make sure I am choosing the right words to say. I agree with Kristin, it's a bit of both. I believe we have a destiny that we are called upon, but it is up to us to get there. At that point I feel like we have free will. Free will to choose the path that we take to get there and whether or not we fully reach the end of that road. I have to stop there or else this answer will be 5 paragraphs long.
9. How many times do you think a person can fall in love?
Kristin: Love can be interpreted in many ways, and we live in an age where the word 'love' is thrown around too freely. Love isn't something that be manufactured in a couple of days. In my opinion love is to be grown and shared. A person can fall in love multiple times in their life. People might think this person might be a fool, but as a person grows, so does their ability to love. Love to a child is different to a teenager as is love to a teenager is different to an adult.
Camille: I think you can fall in love in several ways. I didn't really notice it until recently. You can fall in love with best friends but not romantically. You can also fall in unrequited love. I also believe in love at first sight. I see us falling in love several times, that help us to mature as we grow older. There are people in my life that have a certain place in my heart. We may not have been in an actual relationship, but something they said or did hit me right. I can't truly tell, but I believe I may have loved them. I still go back to their memories and the faint touch of hands. But there are different types of love and I don't believe we will ever stop falling in it.
10. If you can make 1 superhero exist, which superhero would you choose and why?
Kristin: Batman, because he is BATMAN!
Camille: Oh god, I'm lame.. but I have no clue. *ducks from all the objects being thrown at her*
11. Who is your role model in life, and what about this person makes him/her so special?
Kristin: Every author to all of my favorite books. Allowing to share your imagination to the world in the form of literature is priceless because you are having other people to step into your world and enjoy the journey that you experienced as you created it. I love books and a self-titled book hoarder; there are those few authors that truly have the talent to do invoke certain feelings in a reader that makes reading so much fun. Book hangovers are the best kind of hangovers.
Camille: Cheesy, but my parents. I always think that I know them well enough, since I am their daughter. I'm always wrong. They never cease to amaze me or teach me something new about themselves. I know how much their will to fight exists, why they are as stubborn as they are, and why they are passionate about their rights as a citizen and as a human being. I believe they have shown me how to admire life so much more and even though they may see the world a bit negatively than before - they have taught me to look at the more positive things in life. I think having parents that have experienced living in a Third World Country humbles you and visiting the place solidifies everything they stand for. I am a citizen of the states, but sometimes I truly feel like a Filipino citizen instead. You can thank my parents for that.
