What is micromosaic jewelry?
Popular in 19th & 19th century Italy and often seen in Grand Tour souvenir pieces, micromosaics feature designs made from hundreds of tiny glass fragments called tesserae.
The colorful tesserae are assembled to form intricate images, some so detailed that they look like paintings from further away. The tinier the tesserae, the more precise the design and the more valuable the micromosaic.
