Hanging Bedroom Micro Apartment - ECDM Architects - Paris, France 

ECDM Architects created this unique design for a micro apartment in the heart of Paris, France. The modern  design makes the bedroom the focal point of the home. What is normally deter minted to be a private area, become open, and shared with the other spaces. The living room; separated by the floating bedroom reverses the atmosphere by making private what is usually not.

A little over a year ago I started a company with my folks. My parents ran a full service advertising agency called Etkin & Harris for about 35 years. 

During the first dot com boom my father put the agency business on hold to run marketing at HotJobs, Vonage, Kayak, and a few other startups. He took them from  infancy to IPO and oversaw hundred million dollar marketing budgets.

My mother who was the creative director of the firm always had a passion for interior design and was always renovating our old dairy farm from 1770. Actually, my folks used to rent it for photo shoots and we'd have a bunch of retail brands shoot their catalogs on our unique property.

One of the Art Directors at the shoot asked my mother to furnish his home. That was her first project which kindled her interior design practice. And once she began getting referrals in Manhattan we realized the huge opportunity for right sized fine furniture for smaller spaces.

We created the Itsy Bitsy Ritzy Shop as a turnkey solution to this problem. And we focus on handcrafted artisanal hardwood and upholstered furniture which is designed for smaller spaces. The IBR Shop officially launched in October 2012 and have since been featured in CNN, Business Insider, HGTV Remodels, Life Edited, Apt Therapy, Interior Design and a few others. We've also had the privilege to work on lots of diverse, unique opportunities. And we are proud to have been profiled as an American manufacturing company in the American Journey series at the end of last year in CNN Living. 

Our clients include boutique hotels, fully furnished rentals, starter homes, corporate units, and staging and model units. You never know who's looking for furniture for small spaces. And we have referral program.

Micro Apartment Transformation - 500sq NYC - SpacesTV - Tomas Possenti

My client is a young male working professional, he typically works from home as a software designer. I designed the space to meet his live/work needs and have the space not be transformable to give the traditional sense of home in this pint-sized condition.

Client:

The client is a 28 years old copywriter (usually writes copies for ADs and movies). She spends most of time outside, and likes to meet people outside. She likes watching movies and reading books. 

Design Approach:

She wants an one-person simple studio with an open working space, so i put all hidden furniture with colorful reveals. I place a large magnetic white board for her working area, and i designed a lounge area to watch movies with movie projector. Since she gets bored easily in one place, i try to create variety modes in a micro studio, like desk mode, lounge mode, bed mode, and a big board.  She wants to focus on living room and working area,so i minimize the size of kitchen and bathroom.

My client is mid 20's woman who owns yoga studio.

She teaches two yoga classes per day and spends most of time at the yoga studio. When she gets home, she practices yoga or reads books. She doesn't cook much so she usually eats outside.

This space can be used as a studio apartment and private yoga studio. All the furniture is placed on one side and mirrors are on the other side. She is able to slide all the furniture in and out of the bookshelves which allows the uses of the yoga studio. Also she can slide the furniture out and use it where she wants. Furniture components are chair,table,bed and closet.

Julian's Micro Apartment

The Client:

Young urban professional of the future.

Client Profile:

Spends much of their week working from an office and out enjoying everything the city has to offer. There desire is to come home to an interesting architectural space that they can show off. They do not want to have to move things around to create different areas.

Design:

The design for the Micro Apartment takes a 8' x 20' space with 18' ceiling heights and divides it into a dynamic multi level space for the client to come home to. Everything is built in, allowing for maximal storage and efficiency in every area.

Modular Rearrange Studio

Client Information:

My client is a female in an age of 32. She works at a women's clothing store as a shop manager. She is very active and merriment, also like to invite close friends to studio and spend time together. She is an entertaining person and has hobby of cooking and reading.

Client Lifestyle :

She works 12+hours a day from 9 am. She does not spend much time in her place and usually eat outside. She does not work in apartment but spend time with friends and use time for her hobbies. She does laundry very often and iron clothes everyday to give professional look as a shop manager.

Design Overview :

Bed needs to be use easily and hidden when friends come over. Therefore, this studio has bed hidden under living area platform. She does not work at apartment so she wanted small desk and shelving. So, folding wall idea was used in this reason. It can be use and remove easily and can be settle in a position at any time. As an entertaining space, it has projection screen for movies. Moreover, the folding wall panel has different appearance either outside or inside of the panel and gives different look in the space. For the often laundries, the laundry system was included in unit with iron pad nearby for convenient use. As a person working at a clothing store, she has lots of clothes, so large occupancy of storage was needed in the space. She has cooking as her hobby, therefore the studio has large kitchen on window side and the counter is extended to the outside the space which is connected to the terrace. This gives great moment of cooking enjoying days at the terrace.
