A short drabble of my character singing yours a lullaby
Ariel let out a soft giggle, watching as Eric traced the swollen curve of her belly over the fabric of her night dress. "Ok, you need to stop that." she insisted, grabbing his hand and slipping her fingers through his, though keeping his hand close to the protruding stomach, their voices falling to a soft hush as they waited.
Nothing. Her brow furrowed. "Sometimes he moves when you sing." she said, catching how her husband's face fell when his touch did little to coax their baby. She lay back against the pillows, her hand still over Eric's as a soft thumb stroked over a calloused knuckle, her thoughts flitting through what childhood lullabies she could sing to encourage some response from their growing baby. Shutting her eyes, she began to sing an old song she and her sisters used to sing before bedtime. An old favorite of her mother's that Attina had sung to them every night, and one that had not been tainted by the memories of more twisted relatives. It was pure, delicate, and full of hope and love, much like the life she carried inside her.
A sudden rumble caused her to open her eyes, meeting Eric's gaze before both parents stared down at her stomach. There it was. First one. Then another little kick, both pressing against Eric's palm. "See? It worked." She said with a proud grin before wincing at a third kick. "A little too well, I'm afraid. He might be a better acrobat than a future king with how much he moves." she said, arching a brow as Eric shot her a skeptical look.
"I know it's a boy. You won't convince me, otherwise." she insisted, giving him an indignant but playful pout before she pulled him close, catching his lips in a chaste kiss, a smile pressing into her affections as she felt his hand roam over her stomach, snake up her arm and tangle in her hair.
