Frankenstein clutched on to the box containing the heart tightly. His forehead glistening with sweat, his heart pounding, he stared at the wall, focusing all of his attention onto a small spot where three bricks met. He remembered their first attempt, how disastrous it wound up, but he was desperate. He needed her back. He was going to get her back, no matter the price.
He watched Facilier, his protege, set everything up in silence. Normally Whale would be the one doing all the labor, but he wasn't in the right emotional and mental state to trust himself. He had to have faith in the young man before him to ensure everything was set up accordingly.
"You're sure it's going to work?" he asked, licking his lips, a small effort to calm himself a little as he watched Facilier work. "You're sure that it's going to be different this time now that we're using this...procedure?" he asked. Whale had always been a man of science, believed that in spite of all the magic that the realm held, science was the greater power. But he was desperate, and Facilier's theories on reanimation held a sliver of promise and hope. And he would lap at the smallest shred if it meant having his wife once more.
