Man, I feel so strongly about the metaphor of the Midas touch in connection to Hannibal. While the idea came to me from a song and I went, "Yeah, sure, Doctor. Of course. I'm sure not even Midas could have done me better!", it just keeps seeping into my brain and growing roots.
We remember Bedelia telling Will that what Hannibal is doing to him is - in Hannibal's mind - the best for him. To him, elevating Will from his restraint and delusions about himself is not just entertaining for himself but the right thing to do. Forcibly making him look in the mirror and seeing himself is then almost seen as a noble quest of sorts.
What if he does see his hands as capable of turning the things around him to gold? He'd definitely have the pride and narcissistic tendencies for it. With how he obviously views violence and death, his therapeutic and extracurricular activities lend themselves to think that he does.
This has probably been analysed to death and you get the point. He gives agency and liberation of society's boundaries to his patients and art, beauty, meaning and purpose to the rude.
That is, if we only zero in on season one and two. Come Florence and it all just seems to shift a little. While he never really lets go of creating tableaus in his wake, it is out of necessity and impulsivity that he kills Professor Sogliato and Rinaldo Pazzi. We don't entirely know at what moment he decided to kill Anthony, yet it does feel impulsive as well. Making him into the three of swords is a message. It's still art but it doesn't carry the same intent as past tableaus.
To me, it seems that facing the events of Mizumono changed how he viewed himself and the capability of his hands. For a time, he has given up on that aspect of himself.
But you know, this is just me rambling somewhat aimlessly. Someone give me their perspective on this. It's not letting me rest

XANTHE RUMPLE SEMBALANCE
To address whether Xanthe Rumpole’s Golden Touch Semblance could stop Salem in the RWBY universe, let’s break it down based on the provided information and the context of Salem’s nature, while keeping the response concise and focused.
Analysis
Rumpole’s Semblance: Golden Touch allows Rumpole to permanently transform materials she touches into gold, including clothing and weapons, rendering them useless due to gold’s softness and malleability. It requires physical contact and cannot be reversed. Her eyes flash gold when activated, indicating a visual cue.
Salem’s Nature: In RWBY, Salem is an ancient, immortal being, cursed by the gods with eternal life. She is not a typical organic entity; her body is infused with Grimm essence, making her a hybrid of human and Grimm. She can regenerate from physical damage, even catastrophic injuries, due to her immortality. Her composition includes organic and possibly inorganic elements, given her Grimm nature, but the exact mechanics of her body are not fully detailed in canon.
Application to Salem:
Effectiveness: If Rumpole touched Salem, Golden Touch might attempt to transform her body or parts of it into gold. However, Salem’s immortality and regenerative abilities likely counteract the permanent nature of the transformation. Since her body can rebuild itself from nearly any damage, it’s plausible she could expel or regenerate around the gold, negating the effect.
Immobilization: Turning Salem’s clothing or external elements (e.g., her robes) into gold could temporarily hinder her movement, as seen with Neptune’s jacket. However, Salem’s magical prowess and Grimm abilities suggest she could shed or destroy affected materials, minimizing the impact.
Non-Organic Nature: The query suggests Salem is “not organic,” which aligns partially with her Grimm essence. Golden Touch works on materials (clothing, weapons), but its effect on a hybrid being like Salem is unclear. If her body is partially organic, the Semblance might affect her flesh, but her immortality likely overrides permanent transformation. If her Grimm essence is inorganic, it might resist the Semblance entirely, as the ability’s limits on non-material or magical entities are unknown.
Limitations: Golden Touch requires physical contact, which is a significant hurdle against Salem, who is a powerful magic user capable of ranged attacks and commanding Grimm. Rumpole would need to get close, risking defeat (as seen with Carmine Esclados overpowering her). Additionally, the Semblance’s inability to revert changes doesn’t guarantee stopping an immortal being who can adapt or regenerate.
Conclusion
Rumpole’s Golden Touch is unlikely to stop Salem permanently. While it could temporarily inconvenience her by transforming her clothing or weapons into gold, Salem’s immortality, regenerative abilities, and magical power would likely allow her to overcome or bypass the Semblance’s effects. Her Grimm-hybrid nature further complicates the Semblance’s applicability, as it may not fully affect her unique physiology. At best, it might slow her down momentarily, but it wouldn’t defeat or incapacitate her.
