NEW DELHI: The Centre has increased the annual allocation for mid-day meal scheme by Rs 800 crore. This was announced by Union HRD minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal, during a meeting with the State education ministers.

“In the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak, the annual central allocation of cooking cost (for procurement of pulses, vegetables, oil, spices and fuel) under the MDM scheme has been enhanced to Rs 8,100 crore from Rs 7,300 crore (an increment of 10.99%), the minister said. The Union HRD minister appealed to all the states to start the process of evaluation of answer sheets of the state Board examinations and also facilitate the process for CBSE evalutaion in their respective states.

Considering the health of the students, Pokhriyal also announced that approval is being given for providing MDM during summer holidays of schools, on which an additional expenditure of about Rs 1,600 crores will be made. In addition, under the MDM scheme, an ad-hoc grant of Rs 2,500 crore is being issued for the first quarter. This is apart from the additional Rs 800 crore of central allocation for cooking cost (for procurement of pulses, vegetable, oil, spices and fuel) under the MDM scheme.

The Union HRD minister also informed the state education ministers about the relaxing of the norms by the government under the Samagra Shiksha. This will enable the states to spend the balance of around Rs 6,200 crore from the previous year. Besides, the government has also issued an ad-hoc grant of Rs 4,450 crore for the first quarter.

Pokhriyal asked the states to immediately transfer the amount released under Samagra Shiksha to the State Implementation Committee so that it can be utilized properly to ensure that the next installment can be released.

Minister of state for HRD, Sanjay Dhotre, education ministers of 22 states and secretaries from 14 states and Union Territories attended the conference via video conferencing. Newly appointed secretary, department of school education and literacy, Anita Karwal, was also present in the meeting.

Pokhriyal said that the current situation of Covid-19 is unfortunate, but also an opportunity to do new experiments to ensure safety and academic welfare of students. All efforts should be made to mitigate the challenges of the 33 crore students so that they can continue their education without any difficulty, the Union HRD minister said.

বিশেষ সংবাদদাতা : সরকার টাকা দেয় প্রাথমিক স্কুলের ছাত্রদের মিড-ডে মিলের জন্য। কিন্তু সেই টাকা বা চাল ডাল ভূতে খেয়ে ফেলে। নিরীহ অবোধ শিশুরা স্কুল শিক্ষকদের বিরুদ্ধে মুখ ফুটে কিছু বলার উপায় থাকে না। উত্তরপ্রদেশের মির্জাপুরের হিনৌতা গ্রামের স্কুলে পড়ুয়াদের মিড ডে মিলে খেতে দেওয়া হয় শুকনো রুটি। কোনও সবজি না থাকায় নুন দিয়ে রুটি খেতে দেওয়া হয়। অথচ মিড ডে মিলে ভাত ডাল ডিম দেওয়ার নিয়ম। ছবিতে দেখা গেছে ছাত্রছাত্রীরা মেঝেতে বসে নুন দিয়ে চাপাটি খাচ্ছে। নুনরুটির খবর চাউর হতেই প্রশাসন নড়েচড়ে বসে। মিড ডে মিলের দায়িত্বপ্রাপ্ত শিক্ষককে সাসপেন্ড করে তদন্ত শুরু করেছে। জেলাশাসক অনুরাগ প্যাটেল জানান, সংশ্লিষ্ট শিক্ষক ও সুপারভাইজারের অপদার্থতার নমুনা। খবর পাওয়া পেয়ে ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হয়েছে।
